Memorial Day

Loves, many of you know what I used to do.. I was a Veterans Representive Supervisors Aide for 15 years in Calif, and I hold the utmost respect for my Veterans and their families.
On this Memorial day, do take a few minutes to thank a Vet, whether they be maleor female, and let them know that they are honored and remembered. Fly yourflags, visit a memorial, or simply say a prayer to the setting sun for those whogave the ultimate sacrifice of their lives so you could live Yours the way you do now. They gave of themselves so that your children and grandchildren could be free to their fullest potiential. Thank about That for a minute....Then thank a Vet for it.
Happy Memorial Day to my Vets and their families, and to those that love and
respect them. :}

Totally agree... I think most people forget the meaning of this holiday and only know if it being a 3 day weekend..

We definitely should thank a vet but not only this coming Holiday but every time we see one...

great post

On Sunday we shall attend a Memorial Service at the National Cemetery on Cape Cod where those who have given the ultimate sacrifice are honored. Thoughts of respect, honor and commitment are in our prayers.

Thank you for sharing this, Cat... Many of my friends will get together and share some old stories with the younger generation... I just got a new flag and will display it for the first time this weekend... :paw::paw:

As one who was in the military during Vietnam (but did NOT go over) and worked on a military post for 27 years, training soldiers, I have seen many go, but never return from various wars/conflicts. I never pass up an opportunity to thank anyone in the military for their service. Without them, we'd all be speaking German, Japanese, Russian, or Arabic...who knows?

Personally, I know my freedom to write this comes from their sacrifices. God, or who-ever's in charge of this universe, bless 'em!

As a 100% disabled Viet Nam Vet (8 1/2 years in the Marine Corps), I thank you all for the sentiments expressed in this thread.

I am extremely grateful that the reception received by today's returning veterans is so much better than in the 60s and 70s. Today's veterans also face many more hardships because so many of them are reservists whose lives have been disrupted as they continue to experience multiple deployments to the Middle East.

I just got notice yesterday that Obama's stimulus package includes a $250.00 check for disabled veterans. It's nice, but I really wish all that money was instead used to improve services in our VA hospitals. It's a lonely time for a lot of young men still undergoing treatment and I'll be spending Memorial Day making visits to two different facilities.

Again, THANK YOU.

Thank you, Cat. Armed forces, cops, firefighters and even teachers...all of them are my heroes and they do a thankless job for very little pay. I am conscious every night that my right to sleep safely is due to the sacrifices of people I may never get the chance to thank properly.

My Dad served in the Navy on the USS Biloxi in the Pacific during World War II. He was barely 18 years old when he went into combat.

Just last week-end we attended a reunion in Biloxi, Mississippi, for what few are left of his ship mates. It was one of the most moving experiences of my life.

How very proud we should be of those who sacrificed so much to keep us free.

i dont know why most only see fit to fly the flag proudly on certain holidays, i fly my flag ALL the time, proudly. one at the house, and one on each of my bikes(3) and a few at work. i finally got to see the traveling "wall". and i wasn tready for the flood of emotion that it evokes. it is a truly moving experience. i have too many strikes against me to have been in the military. but i LOVE AND RESPECT all who are/have been .

"all gave some, some gave all" :tongue:

think about our comfort level here, and what it would be like to live as they do in the middle east right now, each time you hear a boom, you wonder ,will your loved ones come home that nite.

" in memory of those who perished, or never returned from vietnam"
this particular sticker on my one bike, is getting old and worn, and i cant find another like it, wish i could for the other bikes, because we "collectively didnt receive the vets from vietnam like we have vets of EVERY other "conflict" i dont care if there are those who say it "wasnt a war cuz it was never declared", when guns are used , and people die, its a fucking WAR!

my many thanks to each and every person and family who has or had someone in the armed services.......esp in these uncertain times

My flag might stay up for quite a while besides holidays-but I always strike my colors at dusk, it's just a habit and respect for the flag. And it may not be up for a few weeks. That does not mean I'm less patriotic if it's not flying.

I work afternoons so I don't like to have my flag fly after dark. Weekends it flies every day.

Thank you for you compassion and caring one and all.
As a member of several biker organizations (including the PGR), I (we) escorted the Vietnam Memorial moving wall from Denton to Dallas TX.
God willing and the creeks don't rise, will again be escorting the wall from Dallas to Texarkana, TX where the Arkansas division of the PGR will take over the escort. The wall is on it's way to Philly, to be set up on Wed by 5PM.
I salute all veterans and their orphans and widows (widowers).

I have worked 11 of the Traveling Walls while in Calif and I have to say each time grabs my heart a little more. If you have never seen one, then I encourage you wholeheartedly to visit one and pay tribute to the men and women (Yes, there are 9 women on the wall) etches in those panals. And if you ever see John Davitch, (The man who created the Traveling Wall so many years ago) by all means tell him what a wonderful thing he does, he and his sons and Wall Drivers in bring the Wall to your town. ;}
Kudo's and Kisses to you Doggy and to the other bikers that escort the Wall to her destinations.
