Hi Everyone,

If you haven't heard yet, a true pioneer in the bisexual world passed away yesterday. It is best summed up here: http://www.bisexual.org/fritz.asp

oh no!
this is terrible!
I've read his essays/writings, and his book the bisexual option and I even liked his Klein orientation scale that showed the fluidity of sexuality.

oh my god, that is truly terrible!! i actually had contact with him. i met him through the san diego bisexual forum when i lived there and used his KSOG in my dissertation (as well as numerous workshops). as a matter of fact, he and i were e-mailing back and forth the past few weeks to discuss getting my study published in his Journal of Bisexuality. so that is such a total shock to me. he was so healthy it seemed too, so that's why this is so sudden!

this is such a big loss for the bi community because he was very active and created the KSOG in the 80s, published numerous studies on bisexuality, wrote a book called The Bisexual Option, was leader of the SD bisexual forum, was founder of the American Institute of Bisexuality, co-editor of the Journal of Bisexuality, and so much more. i just am at a loss right now...

I am very saddened by this news. I appreciate you sharing the news with everyone Jon - as you know I am in Alaska vacationing right now, so I am out of the loop.

More so than any other person, I think, Fritz contributed to the understanding of bisexuality. His work of the last 30+ years has really blazed the trail for all of us who identify as bisexual. And he was a genuinely wonderful man - he was a good friend. In January I went through my own coming out, and Fritz was kind enough to talk to me about my fears before the big coming out.

Very sad news. Condolences to his partner Tom, and his brother and the rest of his family.

- Drew

that is tragic news.. his book The Bisexual Option was a very important book for me. I once went alone to San Francisco for a holiday and specifically went to a Castro bookshop to buy his book. It was the first thing I'd read that helped me identity myself as bisexual and I'd recommend it to anyone who is going through that identity crisis. After reading it I was relieved to realise I was bi not gay...

On two occasions Fritz visited our Bi Support and Social Group here in South Florida. He was a really great guy with much to say.

It was an honor to meet him. He will be missed greatly.

I just happened to see that earlier today. :(
Sad indeed, but wonderful that he helped and will continue to help so many.

his book The Bisexual Option was a very important book for me.
Agreed. Admittedly I'd already long since come to grips with my bisexuality by the time I read it, but I found the book very interesting and reassuring. I'd always hoped to meet the man who wrote it... :(

Dr. Klein was an amazing person. A few years back, I had the pleasure of speaking to him via telephone about bisexuality, bi movements in my area and more.

He will be missed!
