Penis air pump for ED ... any experiences?

    Dear friends,

I had my prostate removed a few months ago, and I'm struggling with ED now. I have sensation down there (the nerves were preserved!), but I've had no erections since the surgery despite the best efforts of both my wife and my girlfriend (individually and together; yes, I'm a lucky SOB).

My urologist recommended trying a penis pump. So I bought a manual squeeze pump at the local sex toy store. But I found the seal isn't great and nothing much happened. Before I waste more money of stuff that doesn't work, I thought I'd ask you all.

Anyone have any experiences or recommendations with pumps? Battery powered instead of manual? Water instead of air? Tips and techniques? Anything else?

I've tried cialis which worked well for me before the surgery; right now it does nothing helpful. The urologist has also promised a consult with someone who can teach me about injections, but that's in the future yet.

But do pumps actually work for anyone out there in a similar position to me? I'm looking for a "primer" for intercourse rather than a masturbation aid.

    Thank you all in advance.

    F.

I have a Penomet pump (https://www.penomet.com/) that works with water in the shower. It's designed primarily as an 'enlargement' device, but could be used as a sex aid, as you will probably always have an erection when you've finished a pumping session. My understanding is that hydraulic devices like this and the competing 'Bath Mate' products are safer and more effective than pneumatic pumps.

I've also read of some pumps that were designed to serve as you described - to help you get prepared for sex. But I've never tried one of these. They're air/pneumatic pumps, and they come with a silicone cock ring that you slide in place over your penis as you remove the pump after getting hard. Obviously, this is supposed to maintain the erection, at least to some degree.

One issue with any type of pump is the seal, which you complained about on yours. My Penomet pump has a rubber 'gaiter' which is an accordian-like attachment that forms the seal around the pubic bone. I'm fully-shaved, which helps form a good seal. If you have pubic hair, the seal isn't so effective.

I've heard good things about injections, both that it's not painful and that they are very effective. I, for one, would like to give it a try, but they're pretty expensive!

Good luck with whatever you choose -- and keep us informed of your progress! There are a lot of older guys in the same situation...

I used to see a guy who had the same issue. I can't speak from my own experience, but he had a hard time getting an erection and keeping it.

Make sure you are totally clean shaven. They work based on suction that sucks blood into your penis to make it hard. They are very temporary at best. Take a 100mg viagra. Give it 20 minutes. Then, mentally stimulate yourself and direct your blood flow to your lower extremities, i.e. go, in your mind, to the best sex you've ever had or would like to have. Create the most exotic thing you could imagine... whatever gets you off.

By that time, your blood pressure should be above 120/80, and walla... you'll be hard as a nail.

Re: Penis air pump for ED ... any experiences?

I used to sometimes shave down there back before cancer, but I stopped when I got sick and the drs started working on my nether regions. I was pretty hairy when I tried it out yesterday, so that might well have been a big part of the problem. I've also know I have low testosterone, and I'm about to start skin patch treatment for that. That could be affecting things negatively too.

I shaved myself this morning, so I'll give the hand pump another try in the next day or two and see what happens.

While I have y'all on the phone, so to speak, does anyone out there *without* a prostate want to opine on what their dry orgasms are like now?

BTW nothing's ever certain, but the dr says I've probably beaten the cancer, so yay.

Re: Penis air pump for ED ... any experiences?

Last August I had a full prostatectomy that resulted in the same symptoms. I use an erect aide pump sold by the urologist for $400. It works to the extent of getting me back to my former erect measurement and with the cock ring mentioned above I can still penetrate my wife and climax without cum. Yippee.
It took awhile and I am on a generic ED med that helps you. I started reading these posts to help get me in the mood and have always known I was a cocksucker but have had far too few experiences. My wife understands especially after the difficulty we had in resuming our sex life. It has been an adjustment and part of getting older (68).
