I am gonna get flamed for this, but, what do I care, I don't do group think
I don't want a damn thing politically, other than the same rules everyone else has for non discrimination. Meaning I can't be refused housing or service in a restaurant. Legally, if someone assaults me, I want them charged, I don't care the reason, I don't need the hate crime addition, punish the crime simply. I was against people being kicked out of the military for being gay, as I served with many good kick ass people who were gay............but I liked don't ask don't tell, in other words, my job and the government doesn't need to know who I am sleeping with unless they are a minor, and I don't need to tell.
What is PRIDE in my life ?
Pride is knowing I stood up and wore the uniform for my adopted country
Pride is knowing I have always stood up and tried to do my best by my daughter
Pride is knowing I work hard, and don't ask anything from anyone
Pride is knowing I have done some good works in life, mostly for the center for missing and exploited children
Pride is knowing I have lived my life my way and not changed who I am because of others
Pride, is knowing when I die ( Which at my age , every day is borrowed time), is knowing I have no real regrets
Pride has nothing to do with my sexuality, that is simply what it is and not an accomplishment of some kind
In New Zealand, we have our rights, we have very little in the way of phobic crimes.....but we have the people that insist that we we need hate speech and hate crime laws because of some bullshit thinking that if places like the US and the UK have them, we need them too.....
Honestly the way things are going in the US, if DeSantis gets in as president, hate speech and hate crimes will be the least of peoples concerns......
Pride month is in february in NZ... and it has caused so many fights and arguments amongst LGBT+ over what pride is about, who its for, whose welcome...
In 2019, the Auckland pride council voted to ban cops in uniform from pride parade, and we have LGBT+ cops and the worlds first trans cop... the majority of the LGBT+, all the funders and sponsors immediately pulled out of pride parade
The pride council was living proof that having rights do not stop LGBT+ people from being biased assholes who will stick the boot into their own community...and its not always our opponents and naysayers that can and will hurt the LGBT+ community
My sexual orientation does not define me, my words, my actions, my opinions, they define me........my sexual orientation just plays a role in who I have sex with.....
Why do we have pride in New Zealand? the reality is if we do not, people think that their rights are being denied.....at one stage pride parade did not happen for near 10 years, and for many, they believe that the auckland council opposed it......
The reality was that the LGBT+ could not cover the costs of pride parade and the clean up costs for the mess that was left behind every time.......
Basically the LGBT+ wanted somebody else to pay for their party and clean up after them.......so they started with the businesses should be more supportive, tactic, and it worked.....until 2019

I would encourage you to read the actual papers of what is going on with Desantis, now, I am not supporting him for other reasons, but the media is so BS, they make it up as they go along. For example, they labeled something the "Don't say Gay bill"
In reality, all the bill said, you can't teach anal sex to 3rd graders, that sec education will start I believe it was 5th or 6th grade and must be age appropriate, thats it, he said no, you wont be teaching sec ed to 1st graders. The truth behind the "Anti Drag bill", they are still legal, they are just considered adult entertainment and children cant be at the show.
I can tell you in all honesty, I read these bills, as I want to see for myself. The reality is here, the LGBTQ community is causing more hatred to itself right now by attacking people who would have supported them, or at least treated them like everyone else. Most people in this economy, just want to go to work, pay their bills, they dont have time to worry about who sleeps with who, but our media isnt even exaggerating anymore, they are out right liars, and thats both sides.
For the record, I used to to the Pride parade, when it was marching together in support, the last one I went too, there was 7 year olds in bondage gear and little kids simulating sex acts on the ground, people dressed in Dildo suits.
I havent gone since.
They would never let me be President, I would have the budget fixed in 6 years, and then , if you are 65 and over, you never pay taxes again if you make less than 100k a year, and no property taxes for senior citizens.
I'll take a flaming because I do not believe that bisexuality is a political thing and like the right for homosexuals actually was so, no - keep bisexuality apolitical except for a bisexual's personal political affiliations. Lots of Republicans trying to take us back to the 1950s and when the Moral Majority ruled the roost and thumped their bibles over everyone's head. That idiot in Florida, sheesh, I don't know why the voters there haven't petitioned to have him impeached for what can be seen as a violation of 1st Amendment Rights (and probably a few other Amendments) - and that goes for the governors of those other states who are openly infringing on individual rights to self-determination and messing with a parent's right to make the best decisions for their children... and I don't know how they're getting away with it.
This ain't about politics; I'm a legal and consenting adult and, as such, no one gets to tell me that I can't be bisexual and I lost any faith or belief I had in the LGBTQ+ community a long time ago because Jaz is right: A lot of the biphobia comes from a community that's supposed to have our backs but the moment I read of some communities saying that bisexuals had no place here because we don't have the same sociopolitical problems that homosexuals have/had, I was done with them. That and, purely as a bisexual man, I have never been discriminated against for housing, employment, etc., but I understand human nature: If you're not like us, you're against us... and you will be dealt with.

I should have been more clear in what I posted.......Its not DeSantis himself that is the issue, same as trump....
I actually benefited from trump being in office, even tho I am in NZ, because of investments I have made over the years, in US businesses.....and got abused for saying that instead of insulting trump....I disagree with some of his opinions and stances, same as DeSantis, but I am not going to insult him either......
its the misinformation, the lies, the twisting of things and the way that people will go after each other, the personal attacks etc......that will end up hurting the LGBT+ , cos as you say, its going to cost them more support and turn more people against them.......and yeah its happening in NZ too,
Similar to how supreme court justice clarence mentioned about reviewing marriage rights, and next minute people were screaming that the supreme court was ruling on taking away same sex marriage rights.....and how abortion was banned, by overturned roe vs wade, even tho they never banned it......
I also agree with you that so many people do not care about the politics, they just want to live their lives, have their jobs, pay their bills.....and avoid being told who they are supposed to be fighting with and against.......
and in NZ where we have our rights, its very telling, we have pro LGBT+ rights activists, pro trans activists, radicals.... and many LGBT+ saying you do not speak for us, you do not represent us, and you are only making things worse for us....

I use the Dont say gay bill as an example a lot, because it was so blatant, Desantis actually asked a reporter, where does it say that, and the reporter kept doubling down, he then told him, all it states, we are not going to talk about sec to 6,7,8 year olds. Which I agree with, there is no reason for that at that age, half of them still eat glue.

In the name of Trans Rights, a 200 pound boy can identify as a girl and compete against (and crush) girls in any number of sports. Girls who have trained and worked their whole life, just to have it all stolen from them in the name of "Equity". I see no equity or fairness in any of this. I'm a firm believer in live and let live but your rights do do as you please stop when they hurt someone else. The Trans community is doing themselves no favors by fueling public opinion against them from folks who otherwise couldn't care less.

I live in new zealand, not the US or the UK
I did not benefit because of trump but changes he made to the US industries, in regards to his MAGA policies which benefited a number of businesses........
I managed because I have been investing for years, long before trump......I also have to deal with the excessive costs because of NZ government policies that target landlords.... now I could either put the rents up on my tenants, because of increased rates, insurances, maintenance, the fact that mortgage payments can not be used to reduce tax bills....and so on....
The first 9 months of rent per year, goes in the bills incurred in owning the property... that gives me the last 3 months to pay for the upkeep so its costing me to own the properties and rent them out
I allow myself $500 a week, thats actually less than a person on a benefit, in a $300 a week rental, gets from the government.... that way the rest of my income from businesses, rentals and investments can go into keeping the rentals, supporting my businesses, providing funding for LGBT+ groups that get none from the agencies that get bulk funding and do not get it out to the smaller LGBT+ groups......
so I support 100s of people per week, while living on less then most people, but its also because I live simply.....I do not go to the pubs, get takeaways, buy expensive smart phones, own a super large tv, have credit card debt........I worked 100+ hour weeks when people bitched about working 40 hour weeks
I left school at 14, straight into a job, I worked hard, I saved, I invested......while others were out drinking, partying, spending up.....
The only reason why I managed, is because I do not live like other people and blame other people for my life choices or live a lifestyle that I can not afford, or expect other people to provide for me.....
