Running on Empty
Jackson Browne
Running On Empty Lyrics (Jackson Browne)
Looking out at the road rushing under my wheels
Looking back at the years gone by like so many summer fields
In sixty-five I was seventeen and running up one-o-one
I don't know where I'm running now, I'm just running on
Running on - running on empty
Running on - running blind
Running on - running into the sun
But I'm running behind
Gotta do what you can just to keep your love alive
Trying not to confuse it with what you do to survive
In sixty-nine I was twenty-one and I called the road my own
I don't know when that road turned onto the road I'm on
Running on - running on empty
Running on - running blind
Running on - running into the sun
But I'm running behind
Everyone I know, everywhere I go
People need some reason to believe
I don't know about anyone but me
If it takes all night, that'll be all right
If I can get you to smile before I leave
Looking out at the road rushing under my wheels
I don't know how to tell you all just how crazy this life feels
I look around for the friends that I used to turn to to pull me through
Looking into their eyes I see them running too
Running on - running on empty
Running on - running blind
Running on - running into the sun
But I'm running behind
Honey you really tempt me
You know the way you look so kind
I'd love to stick around but I'm running behind
You know I don't even know what I'm hoping to find
Running into the sun but I'm running behind
~~Hmmmm, sounds like my life sometimes~~

I expect Woman will be the last thing civilized by Man. ~George Meredith
I expect Woman will be the first thing uncivilised by Monkey in the Second Coming - Camus
"Nobody realizes that some people expend tremendous energy merely to be normal." (Albert Camus... although more significant to me, than to what preceded it!)
Algeria
Mull the 2 quotes over together Skater. My offering is restating yours.
Algiers
Oho, Sirrah? Would I, but my head seeketh sleep.
On first glance, I failed to see how the de-civilisation of womankind directly relates to the pretence of normality. And the addition the "Second Coming" and "Monkey" references baffled me yet further. I can see a certain amount of pretence in some women, and indeed some social forces intent on their "degeneration", but at 1:05am, my mind is simply too tired to join the dots and complete the picture. If anyone wants to shed some light on this issue, please feel free...
Erm... Algebra.
Hrmm, its 1:22am now, so I've had a chance to think... perhaps you mean that most women PRETEND to be civilised and that... nah, sorry... I'm too tired... my mind is blank!
Time. For. Bed.
And yes: Algebra
Hocus Pocus
Double, double, Toil and trouble...
(not that I understood the "Hocus Pocus" reference either...)
Cauldron
(Yes it was an obscure reference, I agree. In the middle ages algebra was widely dismissed as the domain of magicians and such like; hence, hocus pocus)
