Do I believe in them? Are they a bit like "Shadow People"? Yes, I believe in them. but I think they are impractical unless you have extremely good communication channels. I'm sure they work for some people, though. Its just depends on whether you're the sort of person that can deal with not physically seeing your partner on a daily basis.

Fran, you'd be surprised how many peeps still think the war was totally justified. Especially Americans!
Not to put words in her mouth, but didn't JoyJoyHollywood have some pretty strong and controversial views on this subject?
As for Pacifism, I think ANY political movement, if adhered to in an EXCESSIVELY rigid fashion, can be dangerous. No offense! But agreed, Pacifism is usually preferable to its opposite.

I like it! A catchy slogan! Its kinda paradoxical too...
-
Re: A get to know ya game....
Just outta curiosity, Fran, I'd be interested to know what your veiws on World War 2 are. There combined lie two things that you feel passionately about... one being extreme racism and homophobia, and the other being war. In this case, one was used to fight the other. But I was just wondering about a self-confessed Pacifist's perspective on it... "If Fran Were President" (so to speak), would we have fought that war against Hitler and the Nazis?
A sincere question, and respectfully asked.

Pacifism in itself is not a dangerous philosophy Skater... wot is dangerous is how the enemies of pacifism, who r many react 2 an abuse it. Like ne otha philosophy at this time it is flawed cos humanity itself is flawed. It don make it rong.. an it don make it dangerous. Wud ratha b a pacifst than a bloody squaddie ne day wiva gun in me hand.
Have much 2 much respect for human life to even dream of pickin up a weapon to kill sum 1 eitha in self defence or in an aggressive moment.. if that means me number is up..an the worst happens 2 me then so b it... me refuses 2 lower meself 2 the base instinct of the worst of our kind. It is leadin by example in me small way.. one of many, cos ther lots of us about who feel the same way. Violence solves nowt..the state of teh world 2day is as a result of historical conflicts wich have never reely been resolved... 2 ansa in part ya post lata on..world war 2 was fought cos world the wrld war 1 peace wos fukked up... the reparations forced on Germany by France an GB in the main cud neva b repaid, an the collapse of the German economy wos inevitable...wiv the eventual rise of the Nazis an the sad case that ww2 wos considered necessary.. me don think it wos inevitable...jus as me don think the rise of the nazi's wos inevitable.. its a complex issue wich has no easy ansa...
As a socialist..an a pacifist, an mainly interested in social issues, an betterin our world, not destroyin it, the second world war is merely an incendental result of social discord, created by selfish bastards like Lloyd George an Clemenceau as leaders of ther countries.. Woodrow Wilson knew wot wud happen an ultimately he wos proved riite..
Pacifism had its gr8est crises in 1936 wiv the Spanish Civil war an from 1939 wiv ww2... don deny it wos found wantin.. an that many pacifists hadnt a clue wot 2 do... dunno wot me ansa is 2 ya question bout ww2 2 b honest... scratched me head any times ova it.. jus know that fightin ww2 didn reely solve owt..it lead 2 the cold war.. it led 2 the creation of Israel wich eventually led led 2 the rise of the present wars in Iraq an Afrghanistan... an the al qaeda shite bags... an that will lead onta 2 anotha conflict sumday..an so on...
Ther no easy ansa.. all me sayin is that every war has consequences..like everyd ecision we make in life.. jus wars are a bit more serious mattas.. an they r neva resolved totally satisfactorally.. an they neva will b... apart from the little matta that me cares bout human beins.. an the world me lives in.. thats wy me a pacifist..an cos war will neva solve fuk all.. it will only lead 2 anotha set of problems an ultimately resentments an conflicts... history proves it..an so far humanity hasnt learn sod all from history.. cept how 2 fite wars an kill peeps an how not 2 run a planet!!
A sincere ansa...
