Merry Widow (and Merry Christmas too!)
Christmas morn, pressies opened, much family mirth.. our babba's ver first... much fun wiv the wrapping!
..and no, Pep.. last thing I am is a Scrooge wannabee or owt else.. I luff Crimbo... but some things in life trivialise us as human beings and are much more harmful than most might think... the cult of celebrity is 1. It is not harmless... however, it is somewhat less harmful than the the cult of personality, but sadly the first can so easily lead to the second if we r not ver careful...
..and that is Fran's joyful Crimbo message 2 the world for 2015...:impleased

Dark Shadows, the original gothic soap
Well, Dark, if there's anyone who belongs in these cults you've awakened me to, it's John Lennon! I'm absolutely amazed there wasn't a large brouhaha by the media this month during the anniversary of his assassination. I mean, sheesh.....wasn't it absolutely enough that he had fame & fortune, literally " the world by the tail, " but he had to be treated as if he was some sort of martyr upon his death? Was he really saying anything more different & profound than the average citizen at the time? Hell no! He just capitalized on the discontented pulse of the public, put it to song, and became even more rich & famous. A true demagogue in every sense of the word. :2cents:
Me dad was a huuuugge Beatles fan... and espesh Lennon.. never became a lover of them as was he or me mum, and had massive barney's wiv Pop about the merit of the Lennon status as a "working class hero" and of much of his music, but while I think Pop put Lennon upon a pedestal he never deserved, neither does he deserve to be called demagogue... really he was a flawed almost genius with a social conscience and love of peace but was never afraid to make few quid out it musically or in ne otherway.. he could be a hurtful man but then most of us can be hurtful.. but I do like and even love some of his and the Beatles music but unlike me dad on one side and appparently u on t'other have never been blinded by the man 1 way or t'otha...
