Natural disasters, War, Diseases, Famine; all of these are nature's way of culling the herd.

And the gods all know that this herd could use some culling. Shame that the ones that need culling the most are not the ones that suffer.

I would just like to briefly point out that news stations make money on reporting the bad, sad, and scary. I'm not sure that current events are any worse than most other times in humanity's short history. Not that it makes it any better....
