Sigh, but they did what had worked for them before just this time got a tiger by the tail. These five are off the water for now, what about the rest of them? What about the Taiwanese boat that was mentioned at the end of the article? Were these five the same ones and unless they talk hostages are gonna die? This deal with the "priates of Somalia" does stem from some hard facts---that basically Somalia has not had a working government in like almost two decades now----they have no sort of economic activity going on in any meaningful sense and they are one of those places that most of the population is very young---with little or no prospects for more than the most basic education and job opportunities---the one thing they do seem to have lots of thanks to all the shit that has gone down in that place the many other parts of Africa---they have plenty of surplus AK-47s, M-16s and RPGs floating around----seems that that stuff is like dandelion seeds or something!

I don't know what the answer is to making a place like Somalia a better place to live----maybe there is no solution to it and the world is just going to have to accept that someplaces are just going to be ungovernable and basically free range anarchy.

I guess we are going to just have to learn to deal with places like Somalia and others that are like this--with the list growing every so often--and the problems they cause----with one of them being that even though the violence endemic in such places tends to be farily localized to that place and places near it--once in awhile----that violence moves to places like the Tube in London, a theater or night club in Paris, a train station in Madrid or an office building in New York and of course----for the ships that transit the waters near Somalia they might fall victim to piracy---welcome to life in the 21st Century
