Port Hawkesbury NS. A man charged with sexually assaulting male children has been ordered to stand trial for the crimes. He tried to get out of it by using the same excuse as another person charged with a sex crime who had his case dismissed because it took to long to go to trial. This time the judge ruled that the delay was cause by the accused himself and that he had to face the charges. He may not get convicted but at least he has to go to trial. There is hope for the justice system.... who knew!

Ya know there seems to be way to many of these "sex crimes involving minors" stories in the news these days, what the Hell is going on with that anyway. Protect your kids folks! They are our future!

We read more about sex crimes involving children these days not necessarily because there are more of them, but because we are aware of them in a way which did not exist in the past. Previous generations swept them under the carpet, and children were too scared to tell. There was no Childline or other such support groups for them to report such crimes to. The authorities did not take sex crimes against children very seriously in the not so distant past. The child was considered at fault and generally a liar if they told such awful tales.. we know differently.. and that is good because more paedophiles are being taken off the streets.. many of whom were themselves abused as children and so there is a viscious circle..

Of course we will protect our kids as best we can.. but my partner and I will not do them any favours by mollycoddling them to such am extent that they live in fear of every stranger, or even every family member.. they must be allowed to grow and have a wonderfully happy childhood such as Kate and I had, but also to know what to look for, to recognise the signs of danger, and be aware of those dangers. What we must not allow is our children to live permanently scared out of their wits that everyone who talks to them will be a paedophile.. we must avoid turning our children into more neurotic wrecks than many already are.. there are more dangers than just paedophilia out there..

Bout damn time they put one on trial. Guy that molested my oldest son and several other little boys got One Year and 5 years counsiling for what he did. One Year, after ruining the lives of 12 little boys. I had my opinion on what to do to him, but the court system that that was a little brash. I though putting him into a locked room with me, and all of the other Mother's and Grandmother's of those little boys armed with rubber bands and straight razors and a trash bag wasnt all that bad.....But hey, thats just My way of looking at things. :};) Mountain Oysters anyone? lol

Very well said, Fran.

The really sad thing is that there is a lot of history of false accusations and this card being played in custody cases and divorce proceedings. It's used as a tool of, well let's call the kettle black, domestic terrorism. The addition of anonymous report lines has helped many children get the help they need to get out of abusive situations but it has also cost many a man and woman their children and their freedom unjustly.

A few of the more famous cases here where accusations even went to far as to say they were forced into Satanic worship as part of the sexual abuse.

I really hope that the trial is fair so there is no chance for appeal. I really hope the children he is accused of abusing are getting the treatment they need to deal with the trauma. But the biggest hope is that they already know about them all and not another family has to deal with suddenly being thrust into a shitstorm because another piece of evidence was found indicating their child was molested.

Its not just in divorce cases and custody hearings we see false accusations against adults. Teachers it seems are fair game, and many other people who work with and for children. Children are not stupid and they know how easy it is to create real problems for someone who they dont like or have problems with. Even from quite a young age they are very street wise and just like adults they pursue vendetta against those they feel aggrieved by.

Children do lie and every year a good number of teachers are suspended and their careers threatened because of false accusations of abuse against a child. It is not always easy to find out the truth in such matters because it is such a sensitive and important issue, but many careers have been ruined by false accusation, and by crying wolf. The children who do falsely accuse make it so much more difficult for the many who are abused and who are less likely to be believed and recieve the justice and protection to which they are entitled. And there lies the real tragedy of children who lie about those who have a duty of care.. the latter becomes hardened, insensitive and unbelieving to the needs of their charges.. our children..

I am glad a sexual predator is going to trial. We do need to protect those without their own recourse/s, in my perspective.

I'm not sure the title of the thread is antirely accurate Rdy hun.. we don't know if they have got it right yet.. await the outcome of the trial and then judge.. they may have gotten it right procedurally so far.. no more than that.. and remember this from one who many believe is soft on crime and judicially liberal.. those who are found guilty by a jury are not always so.. just as those who are aquitted by jury verdict did the deed... such are the vagiaries of trial by our peers and the concept of reasonable doubt... just a little thought for the day.. but there is no fairer system for both defendant and victim that I can think of, and it is a mark of our societies that imperfect as trial by jury may be, they are in so many ways compassionate and decent....:)
