It does bug me but I only purchase flags from US companies like Annin.
http://www.annin.com/
They provide flags to official US military and govermental units, state and local governments.
I have Annin flags flying at my lake house with both the US and state flags and various ornamental and ceremonial flags I have collected and they fly on the boats.
They are a bit more expensive, of course, but their quality is much better as a rule than the imports. I get mine from a great local flag, banner and kite shop, so I am not only supporting a US manufacturer---I am supporting a long time local, family owned shop when I purchase my flags--and its a good thing that this post came up--I need to get a new set of flags for the main flagpole as the new (YEAHHHHH!!!!) summer season approaches!! (good bye old man winter!!!)

I remember a few years ago buying a shirt with a US flag on it. I chuckled a bit when i saw it was made in Jordan.

where the flag is made secondary to what it represents, i fly a 3 X flag on my front lawn everday.and will burry any idiot stupid enuf to try to do anything to it. while the strikes against me in early adulthood prevented me from being in the military, i know who i owe, and will back them to the hilt, including giving my life if needed to fight beside them. all combat military and reservists need to be told "Thank You" and have a good handshake when you meet them. it appals me when i meet someone who has a vienam ver hat or some ID that shows theyve served, and when i ask them if theyre vets" alot seem to be afraid to say yes. thats when i extend my hand and say THank you. it makes their day, they say thank you back, its sadweve let them down to the point theyre NOT as proud to have served as they should be. theyre fucing heroes im my book , nothing less than heroes. and desreve alot more than the VA is doing for them. i will continue my crusade to say thankyou to each and every vet i meet......everyone else should tooo. even our true allies to the north.....Canada....and our brothers across the big pond! the britts....while your right, our flags should be made here, its what they stand for, and who stood and fought for it....IMHO

All of the various flags that I have, and sell, are from an American made distributor. The ones made in China, or Vietnam, or Tiawan are nice and all, but they are flimsy, poorly done, and will not withstand the weather as a heavier materialed American made flag Will. Mine are good, heavy poplin-cotton based that is Durable,and will withstand the elements, as a good flag is Suppose to be.
Stars and bars...long may she wave. :}
Cat, climbing off the soap box now..lol

I find it a bit disturbing on a couple of levels, but I also see the wisdom in recognizing the flag for what it represents more importantly than where it is made.
As a vet, I have saluted that flag more times than I have bothered to count and I understand what it represents, both historically (on the national scale) and from my own family's personal history in the fight for that flag.
It is important that we understand what it represents and that is the most critical thing.

Therefore those children conceived and born abroad of American parents cannot be called American children.

As I understand the US capitalist system, it is up to the purchaser to decide if they will only buy US flags made in the USA. Your government would never (?) interfere with the US "free" market system. Otherwise, might it not be socialism, communism, or some other than free marketism?

Thanks guys for all the replys and I do understand that it is what the flag stands for that counts but it bothers me to c it being made in countries where American servicemen fought and died for this country don't get me wrong I do believe in free trade and capitalism but the one thing that shundt be made in other countries is our flag

It's not so much that they are making flags in other countries, hell everything is outsourced these days. Call a 800 number in the us for customer support and wind up talking to someone in India with an accent so thick you can barely make them out.
I go out of my way to try and buy things made in USA when I can, because I want to support the economy here. But it's getting harder and harder when everything you pick up was made in China.
