The other day I got a card and a follow up phone call from the American Red Cross, they were in urgent need of my o+ blood. So I go over there and do the questionairre they always ask you and was told I can't donate. Why? I had unprotected sex with a bisexual. Sorry wasn't in me to lie so I was truthful in my answers. Didn't matter that we had both been tested and were clean or that he was celibate for 3 years prior to my visit. It was the "rules". So I said then I guess you aren't in urgent need of my blood and left.
To be honest, it pissed me off. With the screenings that go on the blood donated they should just take all blood and if there is a problem pitch it. But to tell someone they can't just because their partner may have lied about testing was to me an insult.
Last time I donate blood to the Red Cross or anything else.

I've not been "good enough" for a long while.
I think their policy sucks tho. IMO heterosexuals are just as likely to have blood born disease.

I thought that they had done away with most of those blocks on gays/bis etc giving blood since they do this:
http://aids.about.com/cs/hivtesting/f/bloodsupply.htm
It seems to me that they should not ask people--since many may not be forthcoming anyhow and simply test them all since they have and conduct such tests of each pint donated.

Yeah I tried to give blood once and was denied 'cuz I'd had sex with men. Fuck 'em. Stupid-ass rules.

Oh my god. You have no idea how anal Red Cross or hospitals are. In an organ donation orientation that I went to, they listed all the rules for who can or cannot be an organ donator.
Technically, a hospital isn't allowed to harvest any organs from someone who has any tattoos. I don't understand that, they are millions of people on waiting lists for vital organs and you're going to deny those people a heart or kidney because their match has a tramp stamp?! Seriously.
Yeah, I would just lie when I give blood. I know that I don't have any diseases, I get tested and is safe about things... Which is more than I can say about certain straight people who can just hand out blood willie-nillie and is a clap carrier. Course I don't weight enough to give blood anyway..
The moment a person says anything about being gay/bi or having sex with a gay/bi person, it's and automatic "Oh no, you can't give blood.. leave." .. Nevermind I have 0 negative, one of the most needed types of blood out there.
I digress, and my train of thought is a bit choppy today, so I'll end this here and take my leave.
See you guys.

Hey I will give you another "rule" They won't take your blood if you have ever had cancer. And it doesn't matter how long ago it was, they mean EVER!
Oh well, fine bi me. Your friend, :doggie:
