I never quite did understand how "Groundhog Day" was done on this day----at this time of the year---no matter what--you still have six weeks till official spring.

March 1 is the beginning of metorological spring--astronmical spring happens around the 20th or so of March and most of the true "springlike" weather is at least six weeks away from February 2nd, if not more. There are some years that we get significant snowfalls into mid to late April--usually after having a round of nice warm weather.

Last year around the first days of spring--we had our only blizzard of the year.
