View Full Version : Friends we have missed.....

Recently I was looking through some older threads of two or three years ago and came across SO many names of people we have not seen in some time. I often wonder what has become of them. I know that all our lives change, and we come and go...but the names I read brought back so many pleasant memories.
I was thinking about....Darkeyes, Gleeky, Rupert, Saravasti, SkaterBoy, Scubaman just to name a few. Who do you miss?

Dark Eyes with her Irvine Welsh style of writing...
sadly I think she got put off by the early trolling and yet she would have confused the f*** out of the current teenager we have had visiting lately...
I loved her ability to be controversial yet respected by the people here. I'll never forget her Gaza crisis comments that kicked off a firestorm that Drew had to intervene on. That’s the kind of excitement we need, rather than flaming, to raise the excitement levels here.

Yes Volty I thought of him too but all I could think of was Ray....thanks for filling in the rest.
I really think of Rupert and Proud Daughter and wonder how he made out with his children.
What about Dagni, Tasha, biwords, lonewolf,Kitten,Mistymockingbird just to name another few.

I've only been here for a year, this month, but a few have interested me and titillated my thought process.
Rissa's one; I think she'll be back once she gets a computer back. She's struggling, with children, husband being deployed, etc, etc. It's such a struggle for military families. She's quirky, young, but has interesting views, too.
Brutal_priestess; I never knew what drove her off. I certainly didn't have a problem with her and thought she began some interesting posts.
Lone wolf; he was interesting, thought-provoking.
There are others...............
Over the past year, I've seen some interesting threads begun by new members, then nothing. They just faded away. Maybe we didn't make them feel welcome. Maybe they had issues, guilt, peer pressure, inner struggles; I've been through them all, myself.
This is such a wonderful site and I know folks like us need a friendly place to come. Trolls really hurt us. Negative, angry people who lash out, antagonize and turn off others, but there are so many positives.
I've finally learned to pass up opportunities to retaliate; now, I just ignore those who don't fit my interest zone. But, I really care about most I've corresponded with, here.
I hope those who are antagonistic/cantankerous will review their manners and become more interested in developing rapport, rather than ire. We can display our conflicting ideas and theories without being abusive, or impolite.

Well I have to say that lately--I have been most concerned with the tone of the comments that have been made of late on here--and it has not just been the "trolls"-it seems that the sort of incivility that we have here in America these days with the all the rabid anti-Obama stuff and other things seems to have spilled into here as well--it is fine to have a "spirited discussion" where people can state their varying views on whatever the issue at hand is--whether the discussion is something sexual, political or whatever---I do hate that we seem to have allowed ourselves in far too many cases to let things "get personal."
That is not good-----we seem to have had too many incidents of "name calling" and making irrelevant negative comments on others on here--while that seems to have, for now, sort have faded away, it is too bad it did happen and I hope that people reframe from that sort of thing in the future.
It did drive people away--- certainly it drove off those who just found the site and most likely--it also drove off those who had been here for a long time--it has made me come here less often--at least for now.

I havent seen Texasman in ages, Darkeyes (you may not have agreed with her , but she always had something thought provoking to say), a few others who have dropped off for one reason or another.

I very much miss Fran/Darkeyes.
And McKrabBoy. I don't think he ever wrote in the forums. He used to visit the chat room. We were supposed to hook up but it never happened. Sigh. :(

I'd hate to ego-centrically derail the discussion, but are you referring to me?
I also wanted to say I am enjoying this thread.

Unfortunately, mostly un-moderated sites like this provide opportunities for a lot of sad, lonely and pathetic individuals to take advantage of the anonymity of the internet to hurl nasty insults and cheap shots at people. Some of what goes on in the forum and the chat room here would not be tolerated in most places. And it tends to run off some of the nice people.
And sometimes they just go away for other reasons.

Edit: I originally said Flounder, but I can see he's actually still kicking around. I just hadn't noticed him in a while. Silly me. :)

It's been a busy month - volunteering, working, visiting friends, fighting off ill feelings from the sick people at work who won't just stay the f#@ home.
I still read the threads every once in a while..figured I would give someone else a chance to explain anal sex for a while.
<hugs>
