It seems that lately we have lot of people who like to bitch about things--well---here is one thread that hopefully shouldn't be too controversial--but allow us to get our crankiness out by complaining about things we hate to see when we are out on the roadways.
I have been driving well over 30 years now---I figure that I have driven several million miles in that time--I can recall having had at least six or seven cars/trucks over the years that I have driven up mileage in the range of 100,000 to 200,000 miles and that total is around a million miles more or less if you average out those figures and I have had more cars that I have driven to such mileages than those.
Here is my roadwarrior bitch list:
1.) Drivers who will not drive up to at least the speed limit when driving conditons allow safely driving up to the limit. This day for me was one of those days--on every trip I took---- at many points I got stuck behind people who would not drive up to the posted speed limit---and it was a crystal clear day with no precipitation or other conditions that would cause a driver to go so slow. They were just "pokers!"
2.) Drivers who get out in the outermost lanes of an open interstate (away from cities) and only drive at the speed limit or less when traffic is such that you cannot get around them to drive just a bit faster than the limit----(yeah--I know that it is not kosher to speed!!)----I always did think that the outermost lane is for passing only and not for riding----for the far outside lane---once again--depending on optimal conditions---if you want to go faster than the rest of traffic--get out there---pass the traffic clog and then get back into one of the inner lanes--DON'T RIDE OUT THERE!! Some states now have laws clearly requiring that the far outer lane be used for passing only and do have signs to that effect-but still--some dull as old dishwater for brains people don't get it!!!!! I wonder--where do these people get their damn driver's licenses--outta a Cracker Jack box?????
3.) When there are either the big overhead or temp message boards are up posting messages about a choke point ahead ans says something like: "Right Lane Closed Ahead One Mile, Merge left!"
I say to many fellow drivers: Don't wait till the absolute last moment to make your merge, so that for those of us who got over ASAP on seeing the message have to slow now down to let your arrogant ass in the open lane or lanes of traffic. It actually only slows things down more to have to slow down for you-if everyone just got over when the damn warning signs first say so---traffic would not slow down nearly as damn much!!!!!!!!!
4.) When it is a construction zone or there is other blockage on the road----who the hell do those people think they are who go and drive in the margins of the road on either side of the interstate???!!!! I love it when the truckers use their trucks as moving blockades to stop this and it really feels good when you see a Smokie the Bear, County Mountie or Local Yokel police officer have some of those jerks stopped-- the officer busy them writing citations---I saw this a ton down in both Nashville, TN and Birmingham, Ala a few years back when both areas had construction going on I-65.
5.) This is something I used to call "The I-285 Shuffle" because in the days I lived in and or just spent lots of time in the Atlanta, Georgia area--used to see this all the damn time--but I do see this in other places but not to the degree they do it in "Hot'lanta!"-------
What they do is this----they make all kinds of crazy in and out lane changes across all four, five or six lanes (that the roadway is at certain points) and it invariably seems-- just when they are finally in the outermost lane after having done all that crazy shit to get out there-- in the process sometimes nearly taking off the bumpers, (front or rear of other cars)---then----when they are out there--they get to their exit like Chamblee-Dunwoody
Road for example---and not paying one damn bit of attention----zoom across the bulk of the roadway----and I should say--as a rule--they are hauling fucking ass!! Like going 80 or better!!!!! It is no wonder they don't have dozens of fatals everyday out on that roadway!! While southerners might be friendly people in person--they are not so friendly out on the roadways!!!
6.) This is one slap against law enforcement---I know that they need to make their traffic and other stops-- with such stops often being done because the people being stopped have done something really stupid---but if stopping them is really all about the safety of the bulk of motorists out on the road-----why do the cops seem to often stop them at places like sharp bends in on or off ramps of major interchanges???--
Places like that are not very safe for such stops and this causes everyone to freak out on the road. Why don't they just follow the traffic stop candidate for a bit----when they get to a clear and safer area---then hit the strobes or LED lights and make the stop at that point????
7.) This is one I get driving the more rural, back roads of Ohio----this has happened time and time again for years---I am driving on the road--I bascially have the road to myself--just cruising along, pretty as you please when I get up to a road that crosses the one I am on---a car is making a stop just such that they do stop--but they see me coming---and instead of waiting for me to clear the spot they are at---they rush their turn onto the road---going in my direction (of course!!)--I have to stomp the brakes down hard and once the person is out driving in front of me----they won't drive the speed limit--sometimes often driving something like 40 in a 55 mph zone--and of course--the oncoming lane that had been clear of oncoming traffic or was an open pass zone for miles--suddenly has a long line of traffic---or is now a several mile "no passing zone" due to it being hilly, curvy or a more congested area!!!
8.) This is one nothing at all can be done about it--and it is no big deal---it almost gets funny that this invariably happens---I am going to park my car at the supermarket, the mall or someplace like Lowe's or Sam's Club-----I scope out the spot I am going to park----many times deciding I am going to drive through the marked lines to park with my nose facing out to the next drive lane---for some reason---I pull into the first space--before I can pull into the forward most space--someone comes from out of nowhere--and even though there are like four or five parking lanes on either side of me-they just happen to chose to park in the forward space so I have to stop and park in the "rear" space--or backup--and pull into an adjacent forward space--or a corollary of this---the car is loaded---its running---I put it into drive and start to pull out the space a car just left-but lo and behold--"that jerk" just hauls ass into the space as I am about to drive thru it and I just barely avoid a parking lot fender bender--and of course- I have to back out of my parking space instead of driving out forward!!
OK---sorry for the ramble--but let's hear your driving related "bitches!!"
