Dallas, Texas, September 15, 2009 – DFW Bi Net is hosting bisexuality expert Robyn Ochs, editor and contributor of Getting Bi: Voices of Bisexuals Around the World (Edition 1 published in 2006, newest edition 2 in 2009) on Saturday, Sep. 26, Sunday, Sep. 27 and Monday, Sep. 28.



Saturday’s events include a casual dinner at the Bronx Restaurant (3835 Cedar Springs Rd.,
Dallas, TX 75219-4137) starting at 7:00pm in the back room. Open to the public, but RSVPs are requested to matt@dfwbi.net by Sep. 23. Dinner will include welcome and opening statements by DFW Bi Net President Matt Goodman, and brief lecture by Robyn Ochs. Attendance to the dinner will include door prizes and FREE dessert. Her latest book will be available for sale and signing.



Sunday, Robyn will be on the Lambda Weekly radio show (KNON 89.3 FM) beginning at noon. Then, from 4:30pm until 6:30pm at the Rainbow Room in the Resource Center Dallas (2701 Reagan St., Dallas, 75219), DFW Bi Net is sponsoring a FREE open panel discussion, lecture “Labeling in the LGBT Community” and book sale/signing featuring Robyn. Also attending, with opening statements, welcome and part of the panel discussion is Erin Moore, President of Dallas Stonewall Democrats. Readings from Getting Bi: Voices of Bisexuals Around the World by DFW Bi Net members to take place during break. There will be opportunity for attendees to give their own brief statements of coming out as bisexual, experiences with labels, bi family, friends and groups, prejudice, invisibility, or any other bisexual, bi-curious, or bi-friendly issues that they’ve experienced. Books and pins will be on sale, available for signing, and donations to cover the cost of appetizers/beverages will be accepted. Door prizes will be given out, including a SIGNED COPY OF HER NEW BOOK!




Monday, September 28, the University of North Texas Bisexuality Group By the Bi sponsors “Bisexuality: An International Perspective” in Room 322 in Wooten Hall, Denton campus, from 4pm to 5:30pm. Then, at 7:30pm, Robyn will speak in the Silver Eagle Suite in the UNT Union for “Bisexuality, Feminism, and Me.” This event is sponsored by the following: Division of Institutional Equity and Diversity, University Housing, Women's Studies Department, GLAD and By the Bi, and DFW BI Net.

DFW BI Net is also donating a signed copy of Robyn’s new book to the Phil Johnson Historic Archives and Research Library, a local LGBT-focused literary resource housed in the Resource Center Dallas (www.resourcecenter.org).



Robyn Ochs is a long-time activist, and the editor of the Bisexual Resource Guide and the anthology Getting Bi: Voices of Bisexuals Around the World, which is scheduled to be published in Spanish and in Chinese in 2009. A second edition of the English version is also forthcoming. She is current editor of Bi Women, a quarterly publication. She has taught courses on topics including GLBT history & politics in the United States, the politics of sexual orientation, and the experiences of those of us who transgress the binary categories of gay/straight, masculine/feminine, black/white and/or male/female. Her writings have been published in numerous bisexual, women's studies, multicultural, and GLBT anthologies. She lives in Massachusetts, and on May 17th, 2004—on the first day it was legal—she married Peg Preble, her long-time partner. She is a professional speaker and workshop leader.



Robyn is published in numerous anthologies, including Bi Any Other Name: Bisexuals Speak Out (Kaahumanu & Hutchins, eds.); Closer to Home: Bisexuality & Feminism (Weise, ed.); Homophobia: How We All Pay the Price (Blumenfeld, ed.); Bisexuality: Identity and Politics of an Invisible Minority (Firestein, ed.); Women: Images and Realities: A Multicultural Anthology (Kesselman, McNair, & Schniedewind, eds.); Lesbian Histories and Cultures: An Encyclopedia (Zimmerman, ed.), Readings for Diversity and Social Justice (ed. Adam s, et al.) and of course Getting Bi: Voices of Bisexuals Around the World.

She has appeared as an expert on bisexuality on a number of talk shows, including Donohue, Rolanda, Maury Povich, Women Aloud, Real Personal, Hour Magazine and the Shirley Show (Canada), and in Seventeen and Newsweek.

Her primary fields of interest are identity and coalition building.
