there is a thread - M/F porn and stuff (URL="http://main.bisexual.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7758) by M. Wolfe that wonders the same about porn. [M. Wolfe, sorry if I twisted your post by citing it.]

Like what the heck is porn??? No offense all, I grew up in the Southern States where the Sears Catalog was considered 'porn' because it showed ladies in bras and panties let alone men in briefs. Is porn any type of sexual showing?

I really don't understand the term 'porn' and would like to understand others thoughts about that term.

As for viewing sexual encounters between individuals there are many that kick my switch, while some others not so much. Porn has been loosely defined as, "..pornography: creative activity (writing or pictures or films etc.) of no literary or artistic value other than to stimulate sexual desire.".

Or - http://www.walletpop.com/blog/2009/07/03/ukraine-outlaws-possession-of-pornography-but-cant-define-what/

Guess us Males and Females should never write, photo, record, or create images of any contact we may have between us, might experience with our own gender and/or sharing between us.

I'm at a loss about the term 'porn' because I know what I like to see and don't think anything sexual is bad since it doesn't hurt any one as long as everyone is in agreement. Heck, even the BDSM types have a 'key word' that let's them bail out.

So... that's my post question about porn. Any flames and posts cheerfully welcomed.

I had a brother- in- law that had a pretty strange view of what porn was. More along the line of a Sears catalog. He took me to some web page that just had a bunch of models dressed in negligee. No sex activity, just the models posing. He's all excited over it. I'm like, "Porn, that ain't porn. I'll show you some porn".

So I took him to some homo porn web site with guys swallowing cum and screwing each other. Not sure if he got turned on by the stuff I showed him as, at the time, he would of been too manly to admit it.

porn to me is any picture with naked adults that has something sexual. i'm addicted to viewing such pictures or videos when home alone with my birthday suit on. having sex while watching porn turns me on that i feel my dick get thicker. i also enjoy sex with sexual music. i bet i'm not the only one that feels this way.

For me----the absolute minimum standard of what is "porn" has to expressly show some active sexual contact--coitus, sodomy, oral sex.

Graytwo is correct in the defintion of pornography that he provided http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pornography

Of course-in the US--we have an official standard of what is "obscene" as defined by the US Supreme Court, no less.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obscenity

It is funny--back in the early days of the Bush Administration--when John Ashcroft was the US Attorney General--when he would do press conferences or make public statements at the Department of Justice--there was this statue behind him of "Lady Justice"-the statue had been made years and years ago--been standing in the DOJ hall for years---being the classical interpretation of that figure---the statue was bare breasted-----they had draped a blue cloth over the statue's uncovered breasts.

Another stupid thing back in the bad old days of the Bush days----at some US Post Office location in upper New York state, as I recall, in the lobby of the post office--built in the depression era as a WPA project---there was a mural up on the wall of the Post Office lobby that depicted a locally famous battle between early white settlers and native American tribes--now get this--the painting had been there since something like the 1930s----the muralist had depicted some of the native warriors doing battle in the nude complete with fully rendered penises!!! Lord have mercy!!!

Well--someone who was of a more "conservative bent" suddenly noticed the painting had a depiction that this person found "obscene."

That person petitoned someone in the powers that be to have the painting redone to cover up those exposed penii--as I recall the story--the job was going to commence or had--but didn't make it very far until some wiser heads protested the retouching job--out of at least a sense that an historic painting of this sort--that had been very clearly on public display for decades--- should not be tampered with---halting any more depictions of native male genitalia from being mangled and those that had been covered up---restored to their full, frontal male nudity glory!!

Of course--we can go to extremes and and have people who think that showing any part of a woman other than her eyes is obscenity---thank god that we don't have crazies in this country that want our women to wear hijabs!!!!

porn to me is any picture with naked adults that has something sexual.

I second this definition. Since nudity doesn't always mean porn, there are some things that may be even a bit sexual in nature, then I figure it has to be for the intended purpose of being sexually exciting,

But as to the broader question of "What is porn to me?", I'd have to say that usually it the thing that helps me to get to sleep at night

there is also some writing that I would call porn...

there is a difference I think between Porn and Erotica. Porn tends to not much more then the sexual encounter it self... there is not much story... and tends to be very short, one shot pieces.

Erotica tends to have other benefits other then the sex... a good story, good music, or some other value that is in addition to the sex... in fact, in good Erotica you could pull the sex out of the situation and still be entertained... still have a good story.

Also, erotica does not always have to be explicit sex... like your music video... it can be HOT without being vulgar... Porn tends to always need to be vulgar in some way...

This is an age old question . Our own supreme court has had trouble defining it . The best description I've heard is something like " I can't describe it , but I know it when I see it ! " Laws were made and broken with this kind of clarety . I believe it is an individual's point of view that determines what we consider pornographic . I am guessing by the success of the "porn" industry that folks getting naked and having sex doesn't nessesarily fit the description of most folks . Obscene ? Most folks agree that child abuse in any form fits the bill . Some folks think anything besides missionary style is obscene . There are still laws on the books around the country defining oral and anal sex crimes . That is obscene to me ! War fits the bill . Forgive me , I ramble !
