Can anyone listen to this song and NOT be moved?

Without any banter about the French people, politics, or any other distraction, In my view, this has to be one of the most beautiful national anthems ever.

It stirs my blood........makes me want to find a French couple and buy them dinner, some wine, and hopefully share even more!

Not impressed or moved.

I am just not moved by the French National anthem.

I am never too much impressed with most national anthems--to me they tend to be pretty "schmaltzy".

I personally hate the US national anthem----it has got the be damned hardest song in all creation to try to sing--better that our national anthem be "God Bless America" in the style as sung by Kate Smith or "America The Beautiful" as song by none other than the late, great Ray Charles--both of those songs are much more reflective of what America is all about--jaunty, a sping in the step, optimistic---not some weird keyed song like "The Star Spangled Banner!!"---uuggh--I hate that freagging song!!!

Since I don't comprehend French---I can't really say much about La Marseillaise---I guess its OK--- one probably has to be French or have an affinity for France to like it---since I have no French ancestry and don't have much affinity for France other than I do follow the Tour de France bike race each year---the song doesn't do much for me!!

To each his own though--if this song gives a hard on--more power to ya!!!:bigrin:

Most of my experiences with the French (French soldiers in Germany) and a short jaunt into France, back in the late '50s, left me unimpressed, too. But I still think that was the prettiest anthem I've heard.

Funny: I was telling a friend about this rendition of the French national anthem and we began discussing other soul-stirring music. We talked about the old Russian, German and Hungarian anthems and tunes that was designed to stir emotions. He told me that every time he listened to Wagner, he wanted to pick up a weapon and march towards France!

I'm not a religious person, but Judy Collins' version of Amazing Grace, is the best I ever heard. Plaid on bagpipes it sends chills down my spine.

I know each person has their own musical interests, but I just thought I'd share that. To each his own.

I agree with Amazing Grace on the bagpipes. When we were putting together music for the Traveling Wall, a man offered to do that on his pipes. Inwardly I cringed thinking it was going to be a train wreak. It turned out to be beautiful and truly moving. He also did Taps at midnight, and he was out in the dark where no one could see him..only hear him.
It was both beautiful and eerie....:} Yikes..goosebump time...lol

I have always enjoyed the French National Anthem, La marseillaise.

She does a super job with it.

Thanks for posting it.

I do love Amazing Grace, even though I am not a particularly a religious person.

I pretty much love it done in most ways--but hearing that song on the bagpipes--Man--does that just automatically bring tears to the eyes--I just cannot help it!!!!!

I know exactly what you mean! There are certain tunes that do that to me, too. Sarah Brightman, has sung some things that fill my heart. Mario Lanza had a song from The Student Prince that did that. (Drink, Drink) ...........not so much the words, but how it was sung. Mirielle Mathiew has several that I love. Bag pipes can do it......Wagner, Italian operas, among others, too. I thought Roy Orbison had a beautiful voice.....

In regards to my comments about "The Star Spangled Banner"--does anyone else agree with me that they feel we should chose some other piece of music for our national anthem???

Its not that there are any negative sentiments in the song--I just think that musically--it is one hard song to try to sing and that there are other songs like the ones that I mentioned that are more reflective of "the American spirit" than the SSB is.
