View Full Version : Drinks. . .but where?

I made friends with a cute transgirl, and she suggested that we go out for drinks. She lives in a rather nice little gayborhood (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilton_Manors,_Florida) an hour away, and being that she has no car and prefers to hang out in gay bars and eateries for safety's sake- -I'm gonna go to her end rather than ferry her to mine.

Here's the dilemma. Where do I take her? I'll probably butch up for the evening out (shirt/tie, miniskirt) so I was thinking take her to Sidelines - -it's a gay sports bar w/ a mixed crowd, so at least we both could look at and pick out bi guys. BUT, another bar, New Moon, is by her apartment. . .I'd love to take her there, but I'm worried that some lesbians will throw shade at the transgirl and her bi friend. . .yeah, said transgirl is an ex muai thai student, but... I don't want the static.

Opinions, anyone?

Taylor, you could go to the place you mentioned, if you get a bad "vibe" then leave asap. I don't know of many places that would be "ideal", not knowing you're area. I wish you well.:)

I recommend you talk it over with your date. Let her know your concerns. And, then work out a plan. Above all, relax and have some fun.

I agree with both Eddy and Azirish...you could also ask her if she's been to either (and if she liked either) and/or run both places by her and see where she would prefer to go. My :2cents: for what it's worth. BUT - Have a GREAT time wherever you decide to go! ;)

She hasn't been to either, but both bars are walking distance from one another, and it's a safe neighborhood, so we may end up in both.

gayborhood -- lol ... funny name..

Whenever I talk to a gay man from South Florida (hair stylists, waiters, bartenders, online, etc) they all tell me that they are from Wilton Manors. I thought it was all a coincidence but the more I live in FL the more I hear about the area but I never heard of their nicknames.... pretty funny

As far as the question goes, if its a first meet then I always prefer a starbucks like atmosphere. This way if it doesn't go well then you can get out of there fast. Plus, there aren't that many distractions. If you goto a gay bar (especially one in her neighborhood) then you will definitely have distractions like people she knows. This might be stressful if you like her and lets say you bump into a "past" of hers...

I say keep it simple. If you are going to "out" then go out of her neighborhood.

It's platonic, so it actually would be in her favor for an ex boyfriend or girlfriend to show up. :D

She is uncomfortable in straight bars, understandably. . .hence we stay in her neighborhood.

Is she in Wilton Manors? If so, there is a really nice mixed customer bar/restaurant in the plaza there on the main drag, but I can't remember the name of it right off hand, but you can't miss the place since it always seems busy. It has good atmosphere and a lively feel to it. Kind of a neighborhood raw bar feel; very comfortable with sidewalk dining available.

Do you mind if I ask why you are keeping this relationship platonic?

Why not allow the juices to flow and see how things go?

By setting up mental barriers at the outset are you not potentially robbing yourself of some nice pleasure?

Because I have a boyfriend. :)

And she isn't interested in a girlfriend or boyfriend either. I see her as a wingwoman and friend to commiserate with.

I can visualize it in my head, but not actually see the name. Oh well. :p

That was my problem. Been by the place a thousand times but can't recall the name. Same with the place that used to be Hamburger Mary's.

Georgie's Alibi or something like that?

Well, we didn't go there. We went to both New Moon and Sidelines... and had a blast. It was amazing, really; her occupation as a fetish model makes her awesome to socialize with and a real magnet for crowds and the good kind of trouble. The girls @ New Moon were really nice(it always makes me wonder. How come women in Miami are so cold then?) and it turned out I was truly worried for nothing. In fact, she showed her balls to the Bartender! No Joke! She ended up becoming the talk of the bar. It was kinda cool, especially because the bartender was genuinely shocked, but then intrigued. Hence the Balls showing.

We then went to Sidelines. The bouncer @ the bathroom, a wiry daddy type, made us feel comfy and popped up throughout the night to dance with us, and the boys there were super friendly too. Oh man , if some of those fellas who danced with us were bi, let's just say I wouldn't be typing any of this shit to you guys right now.:three: Two of them put me in a sandwich between the pool tables. Damn hot gay boys and their nasty ways. . .
But she got to put a real jock gay guy in his place. . .there was a little boxing game in the corner. . .the big jock punched a couple of times, and did okay. But then, here comes this little 5'2" girl and totally pnw3d! (Did I mention she used to do muai thai fighting?)

I hope to hang out with her again soon. I learned this: Everyone needs a Transgender friend. :p
