For those who don't know about Eurovision, its a cheesy, but hugely popular, annual pop song contest between 42 countries in and around Europe. Each year (for 54 years now!) every country sends one act to compete. Moscow is the host city this year.
Just wanted to say way to go for the Dutch act, they are threatening to boycott the contest unless Moscow backs down on suppressing the gay pride protest planned for the day of the contest. Russia has one of the worst records among industrialised countries on treatment of queerfolk, using brutal police tactics to suppress any dissent and allowing ant-gay mobs to attack protesters. Russian gay activists are trying to use Eurovision to get some international pressure on their government to stop using and allowing violence against gay people, and stop the campaign of official political repression.
