Does any one know of any musicians who have written songs about bisexuality? (excluding kate Perry)

I would like to volunteer Australian Artist Missy Higgins who is gorgeous and openly bisexual. Her debut album "Sound of White" released some years ago is one of my favourite albums of all time. The track "Scar" touches on bisexuality.

Any others?

Tom Robinson did an album which seems to be about bisexuality called "Having it both ways": http://www.tomrobinson.com/records/albums/hibw.htm, he's also set up a website about bisexuality: http://bothways.com/

I can't think of any other songs about bisexuality at the moment.

Hmmm, well there are some subtly nuiances in certain songs, but I can only think of a couple at the moment. (Not enough caffein yet this morning..lol)

One is from pet Shop Boys called West End girls, "Which do you choose, a Hard or Soft option?" The hard denoting men and the soft meaning women.

Depeche Mode: "We're different colors and we're different breeds, and different people have different needs"

Violent Femmes wrote a bunch of Punk songs about being queer and bi-

"Black Girls"

"Blister In The Sun" (Perhaps? It is to me anyhow)

"Kiss Off" (More about being different/queer)

"Johnny"

Ani DiFranco's "In or Out"

Almost anything by 90s Manchester indie popsters "The Man From Del Monte" whose songs were heavy on the bi.

Ahhh, one of my favorite groups, Marie!

I agree with you on "Kiss Off", but I never really listened to "Blister in the Sun" and felt it was a bi-song...I will have to re-listen to that one

Agree with "Black Girls" and "Johnny" as well

Thanks for the all suggestions.

Many of these songs I have heard but missed the bisexual references/connotations.

The one that intrigues me most is the Violent Femmes as they are one of my favourite all time bands.

I cant quite see it in "Kiss Off". Can you enlighten me?

I need someone a person to talk to
Someone whod care to love
Could it be you could it be you
Situation gets rough then I start to panic
Its not enough its just a habit
Hey kid your sick well darling this is it
You can all just kiss off into the air
Behind my back I can see them stare
Theyll hurt me bad but I wont mind
Theyll hurt me bad they do it all the time
Yeah yeah they do it all the time
I hope you know this will go down
On your permanent record
Oh yeah well dont get so distressed
Did I happen to mention that Im impressed

OK?

I mean this is pretty much my experience of being queer/different in small town. Pretty much you shut down to avoid this situation. Hide under a veil of conformity to avoid being harassed. It also maybe reflective of a certain era.

Any questions?

"Bobby Brown" and "Another Muther" are two that come to mind. There are a few more Zappa songs with bisexual references...just can't recall the titles. Check him out.

"The Weakness in Me" by Joan Armatrading. The lyrics are universal for any combination of a triangle. All women, all men and woman with two men, man with two women, a women with a man and a woman, and a man with a woman and a man. The concete comes with the gender of the singer.

The version below is visually about three women. But sans the video, Melissa could be singing about a triangle involving her and two men or her and woman and a man. It follows that if The White Stripes, Jack White is singing then he could be singing about two men, two women or a man and a woman.

He admits he tried it in the early 70's a few times under the influence of drugs, but did'nt like it, plus his alter ego at the time, Ziggy Stardust was portrayed as Bisexual. Bowie has never come out as bisexual. Plus, hes been happily married almost 20 years and has a beautiful 11 year old little girl, Alexandria.

"Love on a Two-way Street" in 1972 makes 4 songs in as many years.
There is "Emmie" '68, "Timer" '68, "Désiree" '71 and "Love on a Two-
way Street '72. That's two originals and two covers. Not only was
Laura pioneering in open expressions of same-sex attraction, she was
also prolific. Somewhat as with "Désiree" Laura found the voice to
come out from under the covers again. The fact that she was married
and in a live concert in Japan made for a safe venue.

to say the least....it was because of Mr. Bowie that I was so bold and open about being bi in my youth before I went ultra-paranoid in my late twenties and until age 43 before I finally once and for all accepted and embraced it. Bowie completely inspired me and it was through him that I first heard the word bisexual and learned what it meant....

Ummm, yeah, Bowie has "admitted" to being Bisexual, spoke very candidly about being Bisexual, never owed it all to being under the influence of drugs. Yes, he has been married twice, each time with children, and for all public knowledge is completely monogamous with his current wife of 20 years (the uber beautiful Iman !). As has often been proffered in posts here, being in a monogamous hetero marriage does not "change" someone's sexuality - I was married more than 15 years to a woman, completely monogamous, but I was and still am Bisexual.

I knew I wasn't alone in this sentiment ! I think there must be millions of us out there in the Bi - and gay - world that owe a lot to Bowie. Plus, his music is Bitchin' !

So, back on topic - how about the song by Blur - "Boys and Girls" , and Franz Ferdinand's "Michael" . Both are very cool songs.

Is it possible that nobody has yet mentioned Jill Sobule's "I Kissed a Girl"?? Or did I miss it?

When I heard that one on the radio, I practically fell over...then rolled on the floor laughing...then got my hopes up that this meant society was finally prepared to accept bisexuals, or at least bisexual women. It turned out to be no such indication, but it was still a fun few weeks believing that!
