I can't assume that every bisexual person knows about this show "Torchwood" on BBC America. But, if you don't and have never seen it... MY GOD! IT IS AWESOME!!!

I linked the sites above so I don't have to explain the show or its story. It's sci-fi, a spin-off of "Doctor Who" and stars an openly gay actor (John Barrowman) as TV's first openly bisexual ass-kicker (Capt. Jack Harkness).

What's great about the show's evolved depiction of bisexuals is it's a non-issue. All of the Torchwood characters are bi in one way or another, and the "love interest of the week" can be same sex, hetero, alien, whatever. No one gives a shit and love is shown as being love, regardless of gender.

But it's not a "gay" show. It's not limited to the Logo audience in its appeal, but very mainstream. It's "post-gay". None of these guys is effeminate or a stereotype. None of the girls is a Tila Tequila slut who begs for threesomes.

There's a character with my name. (Owen, BTW) In the pilot episode, Owen goes to a bar with an alien pheremone that will make any woman want to fuck him. He spots a girl, seduces her, then leaves with her all over him. (I remarked that he really IS like me, because that's what I would do. She shakes her head, "No, that's not you.")

Then, in the next scene, Owen bumps into the girl's husband, who threatens him for stealing his wife. Rather than try to fight or flee his way out of it, Owen uses the pheremone on the man. The man kisses him and Owen loves it, overjoyed that he has accidentally gotten an MMF. My jaw drops. Wait... Owen is BI?!! (My roommate, at this point, goes "Okay, THAT's you.")

That's what kind of show this. No one cares about gender when they fuck. No one explicitly pidgeonholes themselves into boxes. "You humans and you're quaint little categories," Capt. Jack sneers, while Owen gives a 'Tee-hee!' look in response.

I know that everyone here has probably heard of the show. But if you haven't because it's BBC, or sci-fi, or Doctor Who, and you're not into that kind of thing, that's cool. However, I highly recommend watching it for the best and most accurate depiction of people like us that I have ever seen.

I FUCKING LOOOVE THIS SHOW.

Its a good show. I have never watched it because of its bi aspect, but its definitely an interesting and welcome addition.

The only show whose stars have provided the coverbi for Bi Community News magazine twice. :)

For us in the UK it is frustratingly off-air with only five episodes planned for 2009 -- though I believe they are supposed to be aired five nights in a row which will be sci-fi-bi heaven!

So far, I'm the only person I know who fancies Gwen most out of the Torchwood team. It's the accent that does it for me....;)

The actor, John Barrowman, who plays Capt. Jack Harkness is indeed openly bisexual. He's married to a British architect I believe. Keep watching the series, the chemistry that Capt. Jack has with Ianto and Gwen is amazing. Season Two is just as good as the first. Just wait til you see Capt Jack interact with Capt. John!!! Enjoy

I love Owen, as if I haven't made that clear enough by this point. Not only is that MY name, but he's actually very similar to me in a lot of ways (obviously, the narcissism factor, which I freely admit.) And he has the sexiest Cockney accent, way hotter than Jason Statham's. His voice is magnetic. The way he flirts is beyond intense, sometimes downright insulting, but definitely impossible to ignore. I love the little looks he makes whenever Jack mentions something sexual and ambiguously queer, the little smirk that teases, 'wouldn't you like to know?' ;)

Mmmm... :tong:

My least favorite is Ianto. He's cute and all, but after seeing the episode CYBERWOMAN, I realized he is whiny and annoying and cries way too much. I know his girlfriend died and all, but, DUDE, grow a pair. I have no clue what Captain Bi-Pants (That's what my roommate calls him  and me) AKA Jack sees in him, when he's got Owen, Gwen, and Tosh... and a whole lot of alien sex toys. :2cents:

I really want to like Ianto, just because Jack clearly does. So, I hope they develop his character into more than a whiny secretary who picks up after everyone and bitches about his dead cyberwoman girlfriend.

They definitely develop his character after the Cyberwoman episode. It takes him about one episode to bounce back but when he does..HE DOES! So you've not seen Out of Time or They Keep Killing Suzie yet huh? Keep watching..pay attention to the "stop watch"

we've had both series 1 and two over here, with three on it's way.

I also like Gwen in that unusual sort of way. There's just something about her, probably the accent.
Owen was cool too. oops

So gonna track down season three, I gather it picks up somewhere around after the last Dr. Who episode that had Donna in it.

Look you now boyo! I've been all around the waterfront in Cardiff and I cannot find that lift entrance. I am begining to suspect that Torchwood is just a story made for TV.

As for aliens - the only really strange being I saw was a male human form accompanied by a female human form. Both were facially attractive but the male had an array of toenails that were the size of desert spoons. This poor finish to disguise meant that the being could not wear enclosed footwear and so made clip-clip noises like a dog when walking

Peculiar that while I was there I had an overwhelming urge to bury my face in the Gwen character's bum. In fact, any rubenesque (spelling) Gwen would have done.

Sorry to burst your bubble but John Barrowman is gay, not bisexual.

As for Torchwood, i have loved this show since it first aired. I too was pleased that every main character has, in one way shape or form, explored bisexuality. I believe captain Jack Harkness is classed as pansexual, but it's great to see a tv show which depicts the non black and white aspect of gay/straight. In Torchwood, sexuality is really a non-issue. Long may it live!

Torchwood Rocks!!!!!

As far as I know John Aka Cpt Jack Identifies as Gay and is married(Civil Partnership) to his long term partner Scot. Saying that when I've met/seen John at various shows he seems to flirt equally with guys and girls LMAO he is a really nice guy too but an outrageous flirt... not that im complaining of course!!! Eve Myles is awesome a real pleasure to meet and talk to with a gorgeous accent. Gareth is a real sweetie too shame he is str8 :( You may wish to know both Torchwood & Dr Who are written by Russel T Davies who wrote/created Queer As Folk which may go some way to explain the content.

Not sure if series 2 has aired in the US yet but epsiode one has a real steamy session with James Masters and John which was awesome.

I've never seen Torchwood but I hear enough about it from my friends that I know it's amusing and hot as hell. John Barrowman (capt. j) was actually at Toronto's Pride Parade this year. I kicked myself in the face for not going down earlier to see him. He's one of those ridiculously attractive men that stays attractive regardless of age (or just gets BETTER). I missed him, but was able to see Mel C perform. Worthy tradeoff?

After hearing in the comments about that someone who worked on Queer As Folk also worked on Torchwood, I'm probably going to say it's worth our time just based on that.

Season two aired in the summer of '08 here in the US. Ended with the dead of two characters. Won't say for the benefit of those who haven't seen the full season yet.

Str8 lift from the Auntie Beebs Torchwood website.. dated 26 August 2008.. hope it helps...

"Filming for the third series of the smash hit drama Torchwood, created by Doctor Who writer Russell T Davies, has begun in Cardiff.

Due to transmit in 2009 on BBC One, the series - called Torchwood: Children Of Earth - sees the team embarking on a single action-packed adventure as they battle for the future of the human race against the most fierce force they have encountered.

The highly motivated Torchwood team are John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness, Eve Myles as Gwen Cooper, and Gareth David-Lloyd as Ianto Jones. Other regular cast involved in their high-octane adventure are Kai Owen as Rhys Williams, Gwen's husband, and Tom Price as PC Andy.

Special guests in the five part series are Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who, The Thick of It, Skins), who plays the role of Mr Frobisher - a civil servant who's hiding a terrible secret; Paul Copely (Coronation Street, The Bill) as Clem - the survivor still haunted by his past and Liz May Brice (Bad Girls, The Bill) as Johnson - the cynical covert government agent determined to expose Torchwood.

Russell T Davies said:

"The new series of Torchwood is hugely bold and promises to be bigger and better than ever - the audience is in for an amazing ride. This series is one big serial and the most ambitious story we've ever made, and we've got plenty of surprises in store."

Julie Gardner, Head of Drama BBC Wales said:

"We hope to make Torchwood a gripping and surprising TV event with storylines that push our team into greater danger and sacrifice. Joining our main cast are some fantastic guest artists who will only add to making this unmissable TV."

The new series is executive produced by Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner. The producer is Peter Bennett (Doctor Who). Torchwood: Children of Earth is written by Russell T Davies, John Fay (Clocking Off, Coronation Street, Mobile) and James Moran (Doctor Who, Torchwood) and directed by Euros Lyn (best director in BAFTA Cymru TV Awards, Doctor Who, George Gently)."
