Hi list;
I would really like to meet with a group of bi men to talk about the issues we face as bisexuals and provide support to one another. I know there are bi social events in SF and the East Bay, but I'm not finding a group that meets in a more interpersonal supportive way, so I thought to create one. I've found a location.
Now I just need to see if there is interest.
My idea is that we hopefully have a core group of people that come more often than not, but that it is open to the public and new people can come any time. I'm hoping we meet every two weeks or so for an evening. I'd like the focus to be on current issues or struggles people face in their bisexuality. I'm hoping that the group will be a welcoming resource especially for people first coming to terms with their bisexuality, but open to anyone dealing with bisexuality.
What issues you ask? Some of my struggles are around (to give you a sense of the sort of things I imagine us talking about):
Rejection from some in the gay community (gay, straight or lying)
The disparity between norms in the gay world vs. the straight world.
Lack of community and role models.
etc.
I am not a trained therapist and don't have experience leading anything like this, but am willing to give it a try. If anyone out there has experience with this, I welcome you to take the lead.
So what do you say? How many of you would find this useful and come to these types of meetings?
