EXCERPT:

"Dirty Dancing" star Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer — one of the most fatal forms of the disease — and is undergoing treatment, a representative for the actor said Wednesday in a written statement.

The statement followed a report earlier in the day by the National Enquirer that said Swayze, 55, had five weeks to live after doctors in late January diagnosed pancreatic cancer that had spread to other organs.

Swayze’s rep issued a statement Wednesday after the report began circulating, claiming the star is continuing his normal work schedule, and Swayze’s doctor said the reports of the actor's imminent death are unfounded.

The word is the cancer has metastasized to other organs, leaving him not long. But - - If it is his last days, I hope he has a comfortable passing.

And damn, he made a really classy lady too.

Pancreatic cancer is terrible. My thoughts are with him.

He did a great job in "To Wong Foo..."(although he was playing a drag queen, FWIW)

This really blew me away this morning. :( May the Spirits make his Journey as comfortable and painless as possible. He will be missed if it cannot be cured. Hey, stranger things can happen. :}

Yes, he has pancreatic cancer, but the rest of the story has been exaggerated. This is from http://www.cbc.ca/arts/film/story/2008/03/05/swayze-cancer.html?ref=rss

Actor Patrick Swayze is being treated for pancreatic cancer but is doing well enough to continue working, his representative said Wednesday.

The Dirty Dancing actor appears to be responding well to treatment, according to Dr. George Fisher, Swayze's physician. Fisher's prognosis was included in a statement released Wednesday by Swayze's representative, Annett Wolf.

"Patrick is continuing his normal schedule during this time, which includes working on upcoming projects," the statement said.

It also said earlier reports that Swayze had a matter of weeks to live were exaggerated.

"All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic."

Swayze, 55, has two films in the works: the movie Powder Blue, and a television movie titled The Beast, according to the website imdb.com.

Both movies are scheduled for release this year.

The Texas-born Swayze's breakthrough role was as a dance instructor, Johnny Castle, in the 1987 movie Dirty Dancing. Swayze, who studied at ballet schools in his youth, received a Golden Globe nomination for the role.

He also had a hit with the 1990 Academy Award-winning movie Ghost.

He and his wife, dancer Lisa Niemi, have been married since 1975. They do not have children.

I've heard different reports from different people. . .we'll just have to wait and see. But pancreatic cancer doesn't have a high survivability rate (http://www.cureresearch.com/p/pancreatic_cancer/deaths.htm).

It is too bad that Patrick Swayze has this form of cancer---for being a small organ---the pancreas is a very important organ and due to the fact it has a connection to so many other bodily functions that cancer in the pancreas can quickly lead to the cancer spreading if its a malignant form---

Here is a link with more information about pancreatic cancer--diabetes is also linked to the pancreas as well:
