Hello people.

I fancy tuning my fork to a popular key with a couple of fresh "pseudo intellectual" questions for you all. Hope you don't mind.

I welcome any contributions to this thread from people out there.

Now people often say such things as; "I respect your values and beliefs so please respect mine".

My hypothetical question for this thread is;-

Suppose there was a contributor to this site (or any individual for that matter) who espoused overtly nazistic/Hitlerist beliefs and openly proclaimed themselves an adherent of such;

i) Do you think it would be right to respect their beliefs? Why?

ii) Do you think it would be right to be insulting and abusive to that individual? Why?

iii) Do you think an individual such as this would be reasonable in saying, "I respect your values and beliefs so please respect mine".

I shall try to avoid offending or insulting others, given my recent experience, and would like to encourage others from doing so too.

Well I suppose we have to break that down a bit don't we. We are dealing with an OVERT nazi, so I see this person as an in your face type of individual.
Now given that this mindset and personality trait we can all assume a rather low level of intelligence. Intellect never survives in a narrow mind. This is also a social behavior, therefore it is taught.

i) I would not respect their beliefs, I thought about this for a bit. I wrestled with what I define as respect, so I looked up the defintion to help me. I would not hold their thoughts in esteem, nor would I honor them. I would not look to this person for guidance while in a moral dilemma. Therefore I would not respect them. Sure they have the right to ramble out a diatribe. I also have the right to dismiss them.

ii)It wouldnt help matters any if I were to be abusive or insulting to them. If they are that far gone then abuse is only going to push them further in. I prefer to be passive aggressive about the whole matter. Let them bark. Say nothing and walk away, hoping a brick falls on their head.

iii) If these words are uttered by this individual it is only for the reason that they have no other fence to stand behind. They know that their opinion is frowned upon. They know that noone wants to hear it. They also have no viable arguments to debate why they believe it. It is the only way of closing their diatribe without losing the argument. They are afraid of actually behaving like civilized humans, and that the rest of the nazis will outkast them. With this they will have to learn new social behaviors and they lack the intellect and self esteem to move into a higher social network.

Even if this person is a leader in such an organization, and has some level of what they think is intellect, they have low self esteem and gain huge bursts of empowerment through spreading propaganda to the leemings.

That is a question that makes one have to think a bit more---

I guess the way I would handle it-if the person were freely and openly saying things that are anti-semitic and racist--on this site--we just don't want or need that kind of thing here---it is out of respect for others-the thing is--most likely if this person were here or at some other non-neo-nazi site--they are probably not going to be reasonable and respectful---they would have to go if they continued to make such comments---

If they at least held their tongue in regards to making such comments and were civil---I would like to get to the bottom of why a person would believe such extremist things and try-over time--if they were open to actually discussing things amicably---try to persuade them to change their views--at least to not be an active neo-nazi/racist type person and to try to hopefully make them see--they should judge people not on their race, ethnicity and such --but on the actions of others---and of course as Dr. King said---on their character---to not stereotype and paint entire peoples with a broad brush....

I would really hope that we would never have such a person come join our community--I really could not imagine it happening.

Oops, sorry, I didn't mean to make light of your question but it would be interesting for a person who professes so much hatred and bigotry to admit they are part of a "not normal" group. I think I would have to read what they had to say out of pure morbid curiosity. If they chose to rant, the only way to get rid of them is to ignore them.

FWIW people of all genders/orientations fetishize the Nazi/Waffen-SS/Gestapo uniforms.

I personally don't but it's very common and it does not necessarily mean that someone is a white supremacist, anti-semetic, racist, or a neo nazi/nazi sympathizer.
