The 80's are back. Wait, hear me out. By the time I'm done, you will hit Claires for leg warmers and chunky day glo/ pastel jewlery...
another Batman Movie (The Dark Knight). . .(That's nothing, true, it only means a mild wind in the storm of 80's-ness)
Another Rocky film came out Rocky Balboa ... (feel that? Maybe you need to wear a thicker sweater)
Speed Racer comes out this summer (Probably a hat too.)
Indiana Jones (ID:Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) comes out as well (Take the scarf, it's getting totally cold, dude.). . .
American Gladiators restarts tonight. They even dug up one of the original Gladiators... Titan
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGYAkBVKJQI) (Hey. . .unbuckling your snowpants to jack off to Titan is totally whack, because you're gonna need 'em, it's getting deep)
And the thing that will make them declare a total 80's white out is. . .
Knight Rider comes on TV this February!
Okay, that's just TV and movies...but I HAVE been seeing alot of old 80's trends coming back.
--Chunky Jewlery
--big belts
--ponytails to the side
--day glo colors. . .
Come on, guys, I KNOW you've seen something that makes you say... didn't we try to escape this shit?

You can for get that one of my favorite cartoon was made into a live action movie this year, Transformers. Not to mention that GI Joe comes out either later this year or '09. Also, and no I'm not kidding, Thundercats will be out in 2010 in CGI.
The new Rambo comes out later this month, too.
I loved the comeback of american gladiators! What a flash back!

The 80's bring me back childhood memories.
I've heard so many dance songs in this century that we're ballads or disco songs in the 80's. A lot of eurohouse such as:
Royal Gigolos - California dreamin'
Self control
Milk & sugar - Let the sunshine
Boogie Pimps - Sunny
Cabin crew - waiting for a star to fall
and so many more songs. I bet some songs are not even from the 80's but from the 60's or 70's but I love how they sound now and I love the 80's.

Technically Batman was from the 1960's as well. Use to watch them both.
The 80's weren't so bad. I kinda liked the birth of "I want my MTV" and VJ's. Punk and Goth were blooming. Cream magazine still exsisted. Beating your kids became abuse instead of "the norm" and they could actually turn you in. No more riding in the back of the pick up while your drunk parent drove you around. Kids actually had to start wearing protective gear, needed cribs and toys that weren't dangerous, playgrounds with grass and sand instead of the cement we were brought up with. Wussies. lol
The invention of CD's and losing my vinyl was a bit sad. And that whole beta fiasco. What the heck am I gonna do with a beta Duran Duran video now!?! :tong:

And lets not forget the Transformers movie.
The 80s revival thing has been going on for a while now. At least in this country. We had a craze where some kids reverted to 80s hairstyles, wore 80s trainers, etc. There are also websites (http://www.80stees.com) devoted to selling 80s themed clothing. And there's even a section in one of my local clothing stores that sells those t-shirts with big, worded slogans similar to the "Frankie Says Relax" ones that that were popular back in the days.
There was a similar craze about the 70s a while back too, and everyone starting digging out their Hendrix, Stones and Bowie albums, and wearing flared jeans.
I don't mind so much... after all, I was born in the 80s myself. But fashion-wise, I think I'll stick to doing my own thing.
IF, as a culture, we decide to focus on any era other than our own, I think I prefer to look to the future than dwell on the past.

Sure....I am always a day late and a dollar short. Just when I finally give up on having big hair.......it makes a comeback. As a matter of fact last night at my husbands work party at our home someone wanted to see him with a beard....so out came our wedding pictures. Talk about dated.....1986. I could not believe how young we looked or the size of the shoulder pads in the dresses.
I still like today best.

We'd sing and dance forever and a day

gawds where did this shit start again?? some little girl find her mommies wedges or platforms hidden in a closet?? we got rid of that stuff because it was causing too many back injuries and too many car crashes because they'd get jammed in the pedals
ok lets up the ante a bit; attention all you street funksters hiding behind these terminals.....where are your leathers, your fishnet underwear, and your shredded jeans [ shreds, in some cases we wondered how they stayed on, let alone actually hid anything beneath them] ??? you kno, the ones we all wore when trolling for dates in the trendiest areas while riding our rice rockets?? got your sony casette walkman with the bar kays playin? or is it mixed with renee and angela and cameo too? how about we throw in some lisa lisa and cult jam with full force, too??

Oh my... was this a hit in the US too? it was big in Europe for sure.
Actually I was living in Mexico and there's a lot of European influence in music and yes it was a big hit there. I've never heard that song or many songs from Eurohouse music here, why? I dunno:disgust:. Heck! I'm always looking for Ministry of sound cds because I love the compilations but have little luck. Back to the topic, here's a piece of the song lyrics:
Royal Gigolos - Self Control
You take my self, you take my self control
You take my self, you take my self control
You got me livin' only for the night
Before the morning comes, the story's told
You take my self, you take my self control
I, I live among the creatures of the night
I haven't got the will to try and fight
Against a new tomorrow, so I guess I'll just believe it
That tomorrow never comes
I, I live among the creatures of the night
I haven't got the will to try and fight
Against a new tomorrow, so I guess I'll just believe it
That tomorrow never comes
Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh
You take my self, you take my self control
You got me livin' only for the night
Before the morning comes, the story's told
You take my self, you take my self control...

Well, believe it or not people seem to be sentimental for the past - the world we live in these days is different. Reality TV is great, I mean - instead of paying really talented individuals to act, the networks hire NORMAL people, pay them a small fraction of a real cast and then market the hell out of the show to make people think they want to watch it.
It really doesn't surprise me that everything old is new again, the studios don't want to take a chance on independent content that really motivates people - remakes are great because they KNOW there is a market of SOME kind there. Especially since they can't come up with any decent ideas for new shows anymore. The crap on network TV seldom grabs my attention - I'm not sure WHO the market demographic is, but it's not me.
The belts on my Beta VCR broke so I got rid of the tape library. For a while Old Navy was still selling parachute pants..they don't stock them anymore. :)

The 80's were a good decade for me. High school, college and the birth of my first son were the hallmarks for that era. So it doesn't bother me to see the resurgence of some of it. I'd love to see long, hip-length sweaters come back in style. I've missed those. I'm actually hoping too that bright hair colors (pink, purple, green, blue, etc) make a come back.
What just about killed me was the return of fashions from the 70's. Gold and silver lame' and platform shoes. Ugh!!

Hey, Belle!
Back quite a number of years ago now, my (now ex-)husband and I were looking at more of the rent-to-own - type housing/condos, houses, etc. Two stick out in my mind: One (tiny, lil' bitty) condo had BRAND NEW bright blue carpeting and BRIGHT orange countertops!!! (The realtor tried to get us to take it because the "carpeting" was brand new...Um, don't you see the ORANGE COUNTERTOPS???) Plus, the condo was very small as well, smaller than the apartment that we had been renting. NO THANKS
The other place was just HUGE!!! But....it had wood paneling (as well as those mirrors with the gold fleck paint on them...um, blech). And not just ANY wood paneling, but olive-green-stained wood paneling. And to make sure that EVERYTHING matched in the place, the kitchen cabinets were stained the same olive green and had olive green appliances, olive green sink....bathrooms, the same - olive green woodwork and olive green cabinetry and olive green sinks. I thought I was going to be sick! If I had had to live there, I think I would have turned a nice greenish-color around the gills....LOL

How about those big buckled wide belts that women wore with their dresses? It gave them that hourly figure and the size of those belts reminded me of the wrestler's belt they fight for...lol I was a kid back in the 80's and remember my oldest sister with all those big wide belts. OMG I would buy one!
PS..
I see leg warmers down here in South Florida recently when we had that cold snap. Even with high heels

I kinda of thought that lime green appliances were more from the 70's instead of the 80s---I remember when I was a kid--we had turquoise appliances from the 60s in the kitchen of a house my folks bought back in 68 and they had refurbished--all of the appliances were from Frigidare--which at the time was still part of GM and made in our hometown.
I will say one thing I did like in the 80s--the first days of MTV--I was working for an cable TV company that a neighbor of ours had started exclusively for the island golfing community I lived at in Savannah. Before the netword came available to the public--we had the first test signals of MTV, CNN and ESPN which all started in the same general time frame around 1980.
I loved some of the orignal artists who had vids on MTV--Randy Newman, DEVO, Blondie and later I liked Thomas Dolby---"She blinded me with SCIENCE!!!!"

Is it true that they are making a movie base on the 80's tv show called Airwolf? I watch that show on TVLand and even bought the first season episode. I would love to see Airwolf on big screen. I saw a tibbit about Airwolf the movie in an Airwolf fan base website. I'm not a paying member so I didn't get to read the whole article.

AHHH! the 80's
I really enjoyed the 80's actually, I had loads of fun on both "sides" (straight & Bi , fem)
the "all nighters" hanging out in the shopping plaza parking lot with all my car buddies, not to mention, all the trouble that went along with teenage guys and cars
and all the really sexy heels the girls wore (this was when I started my collection)
the music, (altho I was into the heavier stuff) I still like to listen to disco from time to time
just to let everyone know, I was 18 in 1985
so the mid to late 80's were the best for me (probably the most fun I have had in my life thus far) and things were still fairly simple & uncomplicated back then too
anyway, thats my take on the "bringing back the 80's"
