First, it was Franz Ferdinand

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OH7NhwZlj4

Then, it was M.I.A

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZv-G7IISgs

Now, It's Robin Thicke. . .

Ever had this happen? You hear that single song on the radio or commercial and then for like 3 months you wear out their songs on your IPod.

Come on, fess up. . .

I LOVE M.I.A. and her ex BF Diplo's music (both together and apart) but I hear their songs on the radio here.

I also did that with Girl Talk and his cut up pop songs.

The song I have played the most on my i-pod is "Blood" by Editors, followed by "Karen" by The National.
I walk to work every day (a 30 min walk) and I tend to listen to just one song on repeat... then, when I am so sick of it that I cannot stand it anymore (which happens usually three months after I first listened to the song), I forbid myself to listen to it... until one day (about three months later) the withdrawals are so bad that I have to listen to it again and... I think, wow, there was a reason why I was addicted to this song.
Right now, I have a serious problem with "Nantes" by Beirut, and "Rainin' in Paradize" by Manu Chao.

The music I've been stuck on for the last couple of months is Morrissey. Not The Smiths so much, but his solo work, particularly the CD "Ringleader of the Tormentors". It has managed to crowd nearly everything else off my CD player.

LOL, it's called obsessiveness.
It happens to most healthy people at some time or another.
Other magical obsessive tunes:
Sting - Desert Rose
Carol of the Bells

Although for me it works different. I'll hear a tune, or a phrase from a tune and I'll play part of the tune in my head; usually that's the extent of it, just association. But every now and then the tune will stick in my head. On at least 3 or 4 occasions I've had to go home and listen to the tune on my stereo to 'get it out of my head'.
The absolute worst was Desert Rose, about 6 years ago. I heard it periodically just enough to entice me, but not enough to satisfy me. I would play with it over in my head, adding my own lyrics, etc. Finally, after 3 months I got tired of obsessing on this song. I obtained the song, and played it over and over and over many times, until the obsession was killed by drowning in its own blood!
And a merry Christmas to you, Mr. Cratchit! :santa:

Got stuck on Anti-Flag for a long time. My kid's just convinced me to check out Mos Def, but my current obsession is Mahler. I just discovered him the other day. We did a marathon & listened to his first 5 symphonies in 2 days.

AFI. I don't care how gay you think I am, I love that shit

There's nothing remotely homotypical about AFI fans IMO. But then I guess YOU like them, and so do I, and we BOTH happen to have some definite homosexual tendancies, so who knows?

Anyway, I change my musical preferences like I do my t-shirt. One minute its Rock, then its Metal, then its Flamenco, then its Classical, and so on, and so on.

I do get hooked on some songs and then play them non-stop until they become totally irritating. But then I discover something new, or take a break.

Oh, and I CAN'T STAND M.I.A btw!!! IMO she's kinda similar to "Lady Sovereign" who is, to put it politely, The Epitome of White-Trash. Except that M.I.A is obviously not white... so she's excused.

M.I.A is English n' stuff so us septics think we're sophisticated and total not-scenesters to like her . . .but not so it seems, innit?

Hehe, well, M.I.A is TEN TIMES better than "Lady Sovereign", I'll give her that. Lady Sovereign is some scrawny rat-faced whitegirl with dreadlocks and lots of big gold jewelry. Don't get me wrong, some people can carry off the dreadlocks and gold chains look reasonably well. But LS ain't one of 'em! Every time I see her on TV or in a magazine, I can't help but wince.

I think you hit the nail on the head when you used the word "innit". That particular word was one of the catch-phrases of the comic persona "Ali G", who wryly mocked a certain sector of British society with his television sketches.

If I remember rightly, M.I.A has a fair-sized following over here too, and good for her- I'm certainly not saying that she's musically untalented. At least compared to LS.

I guess its partly just a bit of "Projection" on my part because people like LS bring up memories of my misspent youth. But also partly because she's such an easy target:

OH my God....

I take back all good will I had for the UK...Gerard Butler is gonna have to fuck Christian Bale in front of me for my pleasure, then pleasure ME in order to make up for that.

You can join in too, Skater- - 'cause I'd need an actual Englishman to bring me to orgasm to count as making up for it.

In all fairness, I'll correct my previous statement:

She does in fact have "braids" and not "dreadlocks". But who cares?

Anyway, I may well take you up on that offer, Taylor (it might just take MY mind off the shame and embarassment that Lady Sovereign has brought upon this once-proud nation. Temporarily, at least).

Any improvement? Funny thing is, I suspect that she'd scrub up pretty well if she put her mind to it. Well, what can I say? She's pro'lly only 20 or 21 or thereabouts, and most young people go through silly phases- I was no exception!

Oh Taylor, thats good to know... I did call Christian and Gerard to invite them along, but I think they were too busy playing with the toys that they got for Christmas. Still, more for me... :tong:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_sovereign

She's part of the British Hip-Hop movement commonly referred to (quite appropriately) as "Grime".

And IMO Lily Allen has an immensely superior dress-sense, a more womanly physique, and much less of a "stroppy teenager" thing going on.

Btw, "Lady Sovereign" is 23 years old, according to Wiki.

What about French wigger?

http://hangten.typepad.com/hangten/images/2007/06/15/1_francois_sagat.jpg

That's gay porn star Francois Sagat.

Yes that's a tattoo on his scalp!

Someone should have told him to try putting blue/black magic marker on his scalp first since the ink on his scalp just looks really BAD!

He did it because he wanted to look like an American latin thug, and that ink on his scalp would look like a shaved head.

I don't have anything against Lady Sovereign and I've never heard her music but I read a newsweek article on her and she used the internet to her advantage and spread her music that way and got fans that way. She's pretty successful if she's only 23!

I do think it's funny how she makes fun of UK entertainers who adopt an American accent.

Here's the article M.I.A. is mentioned too: http://www.newsweek.com/id/45087

Its a shame... if it weren't for the tattood scalp, he'd be good to go.

I think we all need to remember that the "wigga" movement extends far further than just America, and now includes most European countries too.

Anyway, I have have nothing against black culture, per se. I just find white kids who adopt it a little irritating.

As for Lady Sovereign, yes I do admire her drive and success as a "musician", considering her age. But I suspect that one of these days she will grow up and say to herself "what was I thinking?!"

There is a song that I do like a great deal on one hand and hate on another--the song is Amy Winehouse's "Won't Go to Rehab"

It is a catchy song and she does have a great talent--it is too bad that she won't go to rehab and stay, work on a program and hopefully save her life.

As a former probation/parole officer--if I were still doing that work--when I processed a new probationer or parolee--I would put on that song and tell them--"you don't have any choice about rehab---you can't say "I won't go, go, go--because if you don't--I've got a place you are definitely going to go, go, go and that is up to 'the big house!'"

I did recently find a rather "old" song that dates back to 1999 by Judy Miller, if anyone knows who that is, the song is called "Out in the Rain." For the first week or so I had heard it--I would play it like ten times in a row.

It's kinda weird how songs can grab ya!!!!

You do notice I put "old" in quotes--I mean with the way the music and the rest of pop culture is these days--if something is (doing a poor imitation of what they used to call "valley girl" talk) " Like OMG--it's like six months old--that is like sooooooooooooo old-- like OMG!!!!!!"
