I just wanted to share with you all some cool pics I took this weekend in Cincinnati:

First set are of The Great American Ballpark, the home field for the Cincinnati Reds-they beat the Florida Marlins in a high scoring game that for many innings had been a shut out of the Marlins:

Such vibrant pictures Volty. You do have a gift for photog. BTW - you can email me with your answer if you choose, you mentioned in an earlier post that you "invested" in a new camera, what brand, model, mega-pixels, zoom (optical-digital), etc. did you get? Is it digital or film?
I am looking into buying another cam since my last was stolen.

Almost forgot to ask, were you using a filter when you shot these night shots?

Great pics, would you mind posting your camera details for me as well. I've just bought myself a digital camera. Love it but will probably end up giving it to my wife and getting a new one. Thanks and have a great day (or night, lol).

Ok guys--for those of you who are not into geek, techy stuff, close your eyes....

This camera is a new one that just came out this spring from Panasonic--it's a Lumix, DMC-FZ8--it has 7.2 mega pixel capacity; it is not a Digital SLR but a so called "bridge camera" that has the near capabilities of an SLR like it can shoot in RAW format and it does-with attachments--allow for both extra Macro and Telephoto lens to be used; it has 12x Optical Zoom and Optical Image Stablization, you can shoot in "burst mode" for taking action shots, it uses SD and SDHC memoriy cards that provide as much as 4 GB of storage space--

You have many modes of picture taking including "Simple Mode" which does all of the work for you--a "Scene mode" which allows you to do things like take great night photos like I did--and a full manual mode as well (also has what Panasonic calls "Intelligent ISO" and Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and other modes and can take short videos with sound that are capable of being brodcast on a HDTV.

The camera has an MSRP price of $349.95---but there are some online sellers who offer it in a package with vital accessories for almost $100 off of that for the camera--then add a bit back for the varying levlels of accessory packages they offer.

The only drawback to the camera--it does not offer the ability to hook up a remote trigger and it has a dedicated flash unit --which means no hot shoe to connect a strobe flash unit so that you can direct light with better control---

All in all though--it is a great camera for the average or avid user who wants a step up from a simple point and shoo but is not ready in terms of abilities or budget to purchase a true Digital SLR camera as yet-

The camera has been reviewed by several of the top digital photo magazines and rates as a must buy---

The camera is also equipped with its own Lithium Ion rechargeable battery that allows you to take hundreds of shots before needing charged again--and it charges up quickly---this can save lots of money over cams that use AAs or other grades of Akaline batteries.

Hope this helps ya--I do recommend the camera---I am loving it!!!

One more major selling point--the camera has a Leica lens system--one of the premier optical companies in the world-and to get a Leica lense otherwise--you can buy a Leica camera for with a similar lense for say, a thousand more than the FZ-8.

Excellent shots. As attractive as both new stadiums are, I still prefer Riverfront. I guess I'm getting old...

I'll one up ya on Riverfront--I can remember (barely) going to games at Crosley Field!!! Now that's old!!! LOL

I do like both of the new stadiums better than Riverfront (never could get used to calling it "Cynergy Field")--

It was OK for the Bengals but not a stadium conducive to baseball and all of the other stadiums of similar design, built in that same four or five year time span--(Pittsburgh and Atlanta) are long gone too---they were just not good places to play baseball.

I like all of the new era baseball fields now open: Jacobs, Camden Yards and the rest---much better for "Baseaball----been, berry, berry good to me!!!"

I love The GABP---it is open at one end so you can see the river and the hills of Northern Kentucky----you also feel more part of the game---sort of a larger version of Fifth Thrid Field where the Dayton Dragons minor league club plays here in Dayton....

Crosley Field? Damn, you are old. ;) Have you seen the model of it at the Cincy Museum Center? I love the huge model of the city in the Historical side of the Museum.

I can only base my preference on many memories in Riverfront. I can't get into calling a landmark by it's corporate sponsor either. How many times has the Collosium changed it's name over the years? Talk about selling out! Geesh!

I'll also admit that I couldn't fathom how the stadium effects the game, as I go mostly for the beer & peanuts, and the company of course. Although I like the sound of a baseball game, especially on the radio, with the chatter in the background with the organ playing, and the crack of the bat, and Marty and Joe's voices. I guess part of that's gone now too. It was the perfect background sound as I beat my stepfather in a good game of gin on the porch. We used to be able to get the game on 700 on a very clear night when we were staying at our cabin in Michigan. Otherwise, the Tigers had to do.

My girls have been to the Dragon's games a couple of time but I haven't had the pleasure. I'm looking forward to taking the time to do that. Care to join me?

....

I think I can match that....I remember seeing Roberto Clememte do an inside-the-park home run during a Pirates game in old Forbes Field. Went with my grandfather...

Spent grad school years in Cinci - felt the same about old Riverfront and Three Rivers Stadiums. The new parks in Cinci & Pitts are MUCH better for b-ball!

Here are a few of the many photos I took this past weekend at a concert performed by one of my favorite groups--Over the Rhine---they performed at Cincinnati's Coney Island Moonlite Gardens--

They just got back from a successful tour in the UK and Europe and now are launching a major tour of the West, South and NE US in support of their new release "The Trumpet Child" which in my opinion and in many reviewers as well as being their best release----the disc is hitting the top of the "Triple A" music format----

Check 'em out if you have not heard their music before---

Some pics for your enjoyment:

The close-up of the female singer is particularly good. How close were you? If you used zoom, at what power? Can you provide any other technical details? -- for example you may already have mentioned what camera you use, but if so, I don't recall what it was - ? Thanks!

glad that everyone liked these pics---

For biwords--my camera is the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8 7.2 megapixel digital camera, with 12x Optical Zoom, In Lens Image Stabilization, Leica Lens with 35 mm equivalent of 36-432.

Some specifics on that shot of Karin Berquist:

Focal Length: 64.3 mm; Exposure Time .100s (1/10); f 3.3; Shutter Priority, No Flash and handheld from about 20 to 25 feet away.

Even though the camera says it is 12x power zoom--in certain modes the zoom power goes as high as 48x (combining the optical and digital zoom specs makes it go this high)--I would say that I was probably about 18x zoom when I took this shot---

These photos were all shot in Macro AF Mode---and the distances were very close in most cases--within a few feet or less for most of the shots--
