I saw this article. And at a nursing home here, they have a few cats and the same thing happens. Dunno if they have kept records, but the cats seem very intuitive to patient conditions.

In the deep south, there is folklore about cats knowing when death approaches. Again, dunno the exact tales but it used to be a belief anyway.

I'd guess that there is some biochemical reaction that the cat is sensing, probably scent.

Of course, this brings new meaning to the term "cat scan"

We saw this on the news last night.
Most people do not realize how sensitive animals are to all sorts of things, particularly like that.

The egyptians believed that cats were the guardians between the worlds of the living and the dead. The ability of this cat to know when someone's spirit is near to separating from the body really isn't that unusual. What is unusual, is that he has decided to allow US to know it too.

How cool is that!

I am a spiritualist so i personally don't find anything unusuall in that at all... I believe that the veil between our realm and that of those who have passed before us is gently opened when a person is getting ready to move on so as to allow the passage to be a little less bumpy. I also believe that if someone is close to moving on when it isn't their time, friends and family that have gone before help the person back to our realm.

Whilst i will also acnowledege that this may be a load of rubbish my belief makes me feel better and brings me comfort... so to be honest i don't care if it is untrue - it makes me feel better and as far as i'm concerned that is all the faith i need!

Animals - especially cats - do seem to know more about these things than we do but who's to say that we don't know as well? If we weren't all cluttered in our heads with everyday stuff then possibly we would be able to tell as well? They say young children can see things that adults don't / can't but this is usually because they are too young to have been force fed a contrary opionon as to weather it is true or not, and as children get older they also lose this "ability" or gift if you prefere, and eventually we forget altogether.

There are also such things as assistance dogs which human sufferers of epilepsy have as companions, as the dog can tell when a fit is about to happen giving the sufferer enough warning to assume a safe position (usually on the floor in a clear space) before the fit comes on. I would love to have a cat like this as it would be nice to ring my loved ones to say goodbye! But i don't mean that in a morbid way at all x

of course the cat can predict death they can also predict where you are injured, in my experience (we have 2 cats) they will come and lay upon your injured area of your body, for people like me and others who do not believe that doctors are the only creatures to make valid medical judgements,
just ask any cat he or she will show you the problem you have before a doctor knows, so a big kuddos for our friends, i always trust there judgement

Yes, but just try to get the pharmacist to honor their prescriptions.

My cat is apparently too stupid to do anything except eat and sleep and shit and throw up all over everything.

I read that in the paper too!! I have 3 cats - my eldest cat runs from everything including his shadow so he wouldnt predict anything apart from where the sun is.
