Okay so we all have that phase where we just switch around to whatever where in the mood for, so to put a twist on this what kinds of music do you listen to and what type of mood are u usually in?

My normal Genre is electronica and trance.

I will usually listen to Oakenfold, Juno Reactor, and yes Moby, collided with The Crystal method. I appreciate all forms of techno. Jungle, Trance and Ambient, and Bass n Drums oooh I forgot to mention RAVE!

When I am going through times of stress, i will end up listening to Alternative rock or Christian Rock.

My main bands I usually listen to are SKillet, Pillar, Disturbed, GreenDay, Eve 6, Flogging Molly, Drop Kick Murphies, and the like.

When I am working I like to listen to Grunge music, Alice n chains, Audio Slave, Rage against the Machine and anything that can get me pumped up enough to kick some ass at work.

If I am Partying I will listen to anything, From Ben Folds, to Dave Mathews, Counting Crows, Linkin Park, Scorpions, you name it.

So with that all explained what kinds of music do you like to listen to and when do you most listen to them?

I like just about anything other than gangsta rap (and even then , I have my moments). I listen to what reflects my mood -- it's the soundtrack to my life.

My "usual" music to listen to is Rock/Metal/Pop. I love folksy artists like Indigo Girls (saw them in concert in June), Melissa Etheridge, KT Tunstall; rock artists like Aerosmith, AC/DC, Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Poison; classic rock like some Stones, Queen. I love industrial metal group KMFDM, but then at the turn of a hat, every Monday night I listen to an indie internet radio program called Bilgemunky Radio ( http://www.bilgemunky.com/radio ) featuring pirate/sea music -- both tame and very dirty, modern and classic in nature. I too have an interest in electronica - both techno & trance. I've got som Prodigy, Crystal Method, Chemical Brothers, etc. My old college buddy calls me 'the 80's queen' because I have a large collection of music from that decade -- then one we grew up in. I've got a nice collection of classical with Mozart, Verdi, Stravinski, etc. And on, and on...

I've got a lot of friggin' music (over 500 CDs and even more mp3s). I like to let music say for me what I sometimes cannot express to another vocally, in the hopes that they listen and pick up on the message being conveyed. Sadly, many people don't listen that carefully to what I'll play, especially during tender moments, and that can be anything from mildly annoying to heartbreaking.

Music-wise I listen to alternative but if I get bored with that I'll switch to the 80's station. I like most music except for gangsta rap. But even that has a statement to make...I just don't like listening to what I perceive as "I'm young, black and pissed at the world". I'd rather listen to alternative that says "I'm young, white and pissed at the world".

Notice I did say "music-wise" because most of the time I listen to podcasts and podiobooks. For those of you who are into sci-fi, suspense and drama, check out 7th Son at www.jchutchins.net

No I'm not affiliated. I'm just a rabid fangirl. matter of fact, if you look at the Clone Army page you'll see a pic of DH and I in our clone shirts with Mickey Mouse!

Like i said...rabid fangirl ;)

My true favorite is light jazz, swing, big band sounds and love to dance to them. I shoulda been born in the 1940's.
Other times, depending my mood, I like a little bit of everything from Moby to Sade to Green Day to Linda Rondstat and a YoYo Ma/Bobby McFerrin collaborative to name a very few that are in my library of music.Throw in a little Texas Country for some buckle-shining two-steppin' and waltzing occasionally and I am happy.

Anything that I can sing along with :)

Seriously, I love to sing in my car when I'm going down the road.

If you look over and see a blond gal sing her head off that would be me.

Rock , country, alternative, metal, whatever. as long as I can sing to it.

Mostly I end up listening to clasic rock, because it's either that or latin stations here in the California San Joaquin Valley.

I like accoustical music (classic, new age or trance) as I'm laying in bed trying to sleep. Soft and melodic usually just puts me in a really thoughtful mood and puts me to sleep everytime.

Meh, I think I've got at least one CD from each genre, and many more from some of them.

Diversity is the key, IMO. Listening to just one genre of music is like eating only one type of food... you'll soon get bored of it, and its probably not healthy.

Generally though, I have an appreciation for MOST music involving guitars... Metal, Rock, Jazz, Flamenco. Yeah its all good.

Hell, I'll even listen to "Pop" music. I've songs by the Sugababes, Natasha beddingfield and even The Cheeky Girls on my iPod, what does that say about me?

This is my latest purchase:

Well, I like all genres. I'm just incredibly picky about each. When I'm forced to listen to music that I don't like, I pretty much feel inraged. I'm not musically tolerant.

This is the soundtrack to my life right now-it's blasting in my study, shower, truck and headphones.

Ring of Fire, Johhny Cash
Tarantula, Smashing Pumpkins (Makes me remember a really bad boy I used to know)
Paralyzer, Finger Eleven (Makes me think of a really bad man I want to know)
I Walk the Line, Johnny Cash
Kodo-Inside the Sun Remix, Yoshida Brothers
Bhangra Fever, MIDIval PunditZ (My Ma hates it but I can't help but turn it up as loud as it will go)
Let's Never Stop Falling in Love, Pink Martini (Makes me want to dance with a pretty girl)
Wonderful World, Israel Kamakawiwo'ole (He's.......amazing, I had to have his album)
Chaiyya Chaiyya, Sukhwinder Sinhg (Pure sex-I crank it up when I'm in the shower and get the entire room wet)
Sleepwalk, Santo & Johnny
Bamboleo, Gipsy Kings
Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Israel Kamakawiwo'ole
Nunca Never, Democustico (Makes me go still and then sway)
Agua, Chris Frank (Watch me sway)
Whatever Lola Wants, Sarah Vaughan
He's a Pirate (Tiesto Remix), Hans Zimmer (Lots of fun and it just doesn't stop)
Do You Feel Me, Tiesto
Sweet Things, Tiesto (Gets me really worked up)
Ten Seconds Before Sunrise, Tiesto
Everything, Tiesto (I blast it when I chat with one friend-it's the personification what I feel for them)
Traffic, Tiesto
Just Be, Tiesto
Sweet Surrender (DJ Tiesto Mix), Sarah Mclachlan (Reminds of my first girl)
Break My Fall, Tiesto
Say Say Say (Waiting 4 U), Hi Tack
Lebanese Blond, Thievery Corperation
Hurt, Johnny Cash (Makes me reach for the whiskey and another smoke)

For me It can be anything patic the heavy rock that gets you pumped at the moment, Killswitch engage, Machine head etc but I like almost all genres!
From maximo park to slipknot, snoop dogg to Pendulum, you name it, ill at least give it a listen.
The main stuff Im not so keen on is I think its called happy hardcore and to be honest trance songs are a bit lame too for me.

It's all subject to change with my mood, but I do have some habits. My taste is all over the map.

Morning/afternoon commute: Top 40. I am an unapologetic lover of pop music.

When I need to focus on work: Classical with heavy emphasis on pieces for piano and/or cello. Opera.

Cleaning house: Stuff that keeps me moving. Violent Femmes, Flogging Molly, Cat Empire, Green Day, Kid Rock, Eminem, Tenacious D, Nine Inch Nails, Linkin Park, Enter the Haggis

Weekend wake up: Billy Joel, Beatles, Elton John, Beach Boys

Getting ready to go out: Raf, Eros Ramazotti, Manu Chau, ABBA, Madonna

Puttering around the apartment: Jazz. LOTS of show tunes. More pop music.

At the gym: I just put the whole mess on shuffle and go with whatever comes up. Although I do have a yoga mix that excludes stuff like Violent Femmes. I just can't focus on downward dog listening to Blister in the Sun.

And I sing along to all of it.

As they joke goes, I like BOTH kinds of music, Country and Western!

So-called "Southern Rock" is on my list too, and I've been known to enjoy some Classical as "background" music.

Dont worry, I didnt sit here and type all of that out. It is from myspace page. I thought it would be easier than listing genres and sub-genres. There's a lot that I probably did not list as stated at the end since it takes sometime to dig through your brain for that (unless you have a band list somewhere like me). Hopefully, it gets the point across. :)

I'm an unabashed and unashamed classical geek. I will bang my head to Bach morning, noon, and night. Mostly I prefer pre-1800, with the notable exception of Beethoven. Oh yeah, and Tchaikovsky, and Dvorak, and....

I also love jazz, from early jazz through swing into bebop, cool jazz, all that jazz...

Recently I've found myself really digging the blues as well, both classic and modern. What Stevie Ray could do with a guitar still astounds me. But Big Mama Thornton singing "Hound Dog" just puts Elvis to shame.

Bluegrass rocks, too. I much prefer bluegrass over modern country; I believe that modern country has sold out, losing its soul in the process. (Yes, I know that could provoke one hell of an argument.)

Some world music really intrigues me. And zydeco. And folk. And Celtic. And "brudda Iz" (I noticed his rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" was listed in someone's post). And powwow music (which is music I can and have sung to before - dancers! singers! drummers! last call to grand entry).

I am not an alternative, punk or heavy metal fan, although I have found Soundgarden and Red Hot Chili Peppers to be perfect for raw lustful animal sex. I'm ashamed to admit that I haven't listened to enough rap and hip-hop to truly develop an informed opinion about it.

I'm also woefully uneducated about pop and rock, although friends and lovers have taken it upon themselves to bring me to the light in the last 10 years or so. I was forgiven (barely) for confusing the groups Heart and Queen; but when I confused the Beach Boys for the Rolling Stones, well, it was a dark day indeed....

Peace

I personally don't care about genre or labels so I listen to anything from hip op to pop rock to nu-metal and I could go on all day, so I could easily within like an hour listen to anything such as Tupac, Portishead, My Chemical Romance, Jedi Mind tricks and etc because as long as i'm liking it forget everything else.

I like a fairly wide variety of musical styles ranging from "Americana/American Roots" to Reggae, Folk, Blues, Bluegrass, Modern Celtic, Cajun/Zydeco, Salsa/Merengue, Classic/BeBop Jazz----

It just kind of depends on my mood---

As long as it has a melody, I can probably enjoy it. The only things I can't stand is rap that doesn't have a chorus (who honestly enjoys just sitting there listening to verbal diarrhea set to a beat?), and scream metal a la Insane Clown Posse. I can handle a little bit of that devil throat screaming, but if it's the entire song, well, no thanks.

My favorites would have to be old-school rock, alternative and indie music, folk stuff, acoustic guitarists, a capella bands, lounge music and torch songs (huge Michael Buble and Bernadette Seacrest fan!), ukulele noir (Google it!), punk and ska or a mixture of the two, musical comedians/comical musicians or ANY singer who mixes humor with music, and a little bit of moody trip-hop when I'm looking to relax, get contemplative, or feel sexy.

My CD collection includes: Bowling for Soup, No Doubt, The Wet Spots, Stephen Lynch, Henry Phillips, Jewel, Gwen Stefani, Michael Buble, Bernadette Seacrest, Jay Spears, Jessica Andrews, Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morisette, Deana Carter, Neil Diamond, Weird Al Yankovic, Third Eye Blind, Bon Jovi, Eminem, Lisa Loeb, Dolly Parton, Blink 182, Portishead, Bright Eyes, Craig Robertson, Tom Waits, Hawksley Workman . . . and more that I can't think of now.

Come to think of it, I think I just really like odd and eccletic types of music that aren't so mainstream.

I'll listen to just about anything, just about anytime. The exceptions are Country and when I'm sleeping. :cowboy:

I do have a particular soft spot for classic rock though. I'm 21 and I own the best hits of Creedence Clearwater Revival, Foreigner, Queen, Steppenwolf, and Styx and Many More. Many More is an awesome band by the way. :smilies15 And I listen to them more than any of the other 26 bands I own CD's of. Of course as I write this I'm listening to Franz Ferdinand.

"We all had a ball behind the green door" sang Eskew Reeder in his New Orleans r'n'b cut "Green Door".

Thought I'd mention that for those of you thinking of heading to Vegas soon.

Black America created some of the greatest music in history. For the past century black America led the way in music, always creating something new before the last thing has even begun to get popular.

America should recognise this great accomplishment from her African American community. Here's just a small sample:-

Jelly Roll Morton, WC Handy, Scott Joplin, Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Charley Patton, Tampa Red, Blind Willie Johnson, Robert Johnson, Leadbelly, BB King, John Lee Hooker, Albert King, Otis Rush, Sonny Boy Wiliamson I & II, Lightnin Hopkins, Elmore James, Howling Wolf, Muddy Waters, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Big Joe Turner, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Fats Domino, Allen Toussaint, Eskew Reeder, Calvin Lee, Irma Thomas, Ruth Brown, The Staple Singers, Ray Charles, Charlie Parker, Oscar Peterson, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Booker T & the MGs, Sam Cooke (why the fuck did they shoot him?), Isley Brothers, Smokey Robinson, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Solomon Burke, Jackie Wilson, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, James Brown, Four Tops, Temptations, James Carr, Sly & the family Stone, Jimi Hendrix, The O'Jays, The Detroit Spinners, The Stylistics, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Funkadelic, Donna Summer, Dionne Warwick, Michael Jackson, Prince, Living Color
