This is just an open request to anyone who has bothered to fill anything at all in their profiles: please try to keep your use of the more obscure abbreviations to a minimum. Or at the very least, please try to avoid contructing your entire ad with ONLY abbreviations.

"D&D free MBF in PA sks rd/gr BFL w/rc 4 B,RP/BD/SM LMNOP WKRP in Cinccinati!" may mean something to you, but not where I come from.

I mean, by now, I (and I guess most people) know what M and F stand for. Consequently, we can figure out what MF, MM, FF, MMF, and FMF mean. I think it's probably also safe to assume even the unitiated know what S&M mean, and quickly learn B&D stands for "bondage and discipline," not "beer and drugs."

But for the sake of clarity, you may want to be more specific about "d&d free." While veterans on the dating scene may automatically see the words "drug and disease free" when they read it, you'd be surprised how many internet residents assume you simply don't know what a mage or an orc are. Besides, most people whacked out on P&H or LSD aren't going take the time to decrypt cipher, and will still send you a "you have a nice cock" or "show me your tits baby" message anyway.

And for the love of god, "bi" only has two letters in it! I guess for a lot of people, it's just second nature, and that's cool. Or maybe you use it as a way to filter out noobs and yokels. I guess I can get that too.

So maybe I'm taking the wrong tact here. Why not use this thread to define some, or share some of the more far-out ones you've come across...

Not in a personals, but along the same lines. When I was a green young 'net newbie, I joined a bakers board. One of the other female bakers, who had been a baker since before I was born, had commented she was doing a cake for her 'DH'. I couldn't figure out why in the world she was doing that! Took me a couple of stupid questions before I realized 'DH" stood for 'dear hubby' and not 'dead husband'. :oh:

That's only because you're canadian... :tong:

I agree. It's even worse when english is not your mother tongue (which is my case). Come on people, how much time does it take to write full sentences?

Actually, isn't it saddism and mashocism? It is in N. America at any rate. Well, at least you get my point now though, right?

Is this an actual one you read? I can understand parts of it but not all of it. Could someone help fill in the gaps here, just translate what you know of it, and let the next person do the rest.

"Drug and Disease free ??Maried Black Female?? in Pennsylvania seeks rd/gr BFL w/rc B, role-play/bondage&dominance/Sadism&Masochism LMNOP WKRP in Cincinnati!"

The one I hate the most is "I'm looking for a serious, deep heart connection."

Translation: "I want us both to think this fuck is really meaningful, as long as it's convenient for me."

yeah it depends on what circles you roll in lol

to me slave and mistress, is like the female taking control in the bedroom ( or any other place for sex ) and making me beg and scream for her to stop tickling me....lol.... but saddism and mashocism is like forcing me to dress in a outfit and scrub the toilet with a toothbrush while being insulted and humiliated lol, or made to wear cock straps or rings that cause me suffering while the female is arousing me lol

LMNOP being that portion of the englsih alphabet used as filler , WKRP in Cincinnatti [ whatever] being an old and much loved sitcom t v. show from the 70's... are y'all catching on that the author was just bein flip, and used these as examples of what NOT TO WRITE??

but, yeah, can totally relate to the dislike of all those " bi swm seeking hwp, non o.b., d& d free, non add'd, not 420 friendly... same minded male or like minded cpl 4 swng ........" come on, get a life, better yet, learn to use your language skills effectively!

it's bad enough that, as a technician, in my field, i see on a daily basis, " connect W620 P2 to L Band SATCOM J4, then install WKW7 on rear of AN/PSC5, allowing for clearance of WKW7 P2 and ADC/IP , then attach W634 from SATCOM PDE / BIAS TEE J3 to RIT #2 J2"

( btw, if any of ya have a clue as to what that was, contact me off boards, there may be hope for your employment)

LMAO - :cutelaugh

I totally agree Richard - just like in my line of work;
The ILV @ 3ph 480V to control SD110V - 480/3ph Rect to HVDC to AC panel invert to SPh HFAC thru SCR/Diode assy to LB/LC or LSC to Inductor.
My field deals with X of C, X of L and/or XLC (not Xtra Large Coffee)

Yours I beleive relates to telecom industry, networking in particular.

OH! Venus Flytrap and Johnny were my favs (favorites) on WKRP in Cincinnatti.

We actually enjoy people using all the abbreviated code. It tells us who can't form a sentence that contains more than three words. It gives us a good indication of who we do not want to have contact with.

Oh that was all too funny. I barely understand a tenth of the abbr. out there in text land and I play World of Warcraft (thus the avatar) and see them daily.. ignoring those I have no clue about. So needless to say if a personal ad is riddled with them I do what any sane person would do... move on.
"riddle me this and riddle me that... who can't write a complete sentence in chat?"
sorry couldn't resist.. hehe
