Another participant in 'the lifestyle'. Blech
Perhaps I should clarify this. Nothing personal, but seeing a natural state of being described as a 'lifestyle" makes my celtic blood boil. I know I'm not alone in this.

umm
i would have to agree with my liege...
its not a lifestyle like a name of condoms
its not like we're a bunch of bohemians
i read the profile and i think that perhaps the best way to put it would be "if you dont share our viewpoint" or something like that...
sounds SO diminishing when referred to as "the lifestyle"---we're all BI on this site... so maybe some clarification is in order so that the rest of us arent confused??

Some of us beg to differ. No sane person would 'choose' to exist in direct opposition to the mores of human courtship. That said, no offense intended to anyone.
Also, be careful who u swing with. All kinds of horrors out there

In starting a bi group i made one rule: We do not attack people for the way we live our lives, we get enough of that in the real world. Everyone is trying to live their lives the best way they can, but everyone finds a different way to do that.
I see this group does not have the same rules.

As someone who has been in the swinging life 26 years with both my late wife and then my now ex, I have co owned a swingers club for 5 years, written articles on the lifestyle and given seminars at Hedo and elsewhere, I knew exactly what Scott and Cary meant........Swinging is a lifestyle, just as being a nudist is.....Being or becoming bisexual is a personal choice and there is a BIG difference between the two......Fact is I entered into the bisexual arena about a year and a half ago being introduced to it by a married couple who were bi at a swinger's party........
Good luck with your party Scott and Cary, I hope it's a huge success, wish I could be there!!

Am I to understand you all see your sexual identity as a choice? I'm confused. I thought we are the way we are and it's up to us to figure it out, not 'choosing' what suits our mood. Something tells me I should just say fuck it and leave this alone. Fuck it.

Well I don't know about all this blood boiling and definition stuff. I try to stay clear of it.
I would like to say, however, that I would love to have met you, had a couple of drinks and let myself have a great time at your party. Unfortunately geography is against us.
But cheers regardless.

I don't really see my sexual identity as a choice, I'm simply this way. However, I do recognize that I choose to accept it, but that I could also choose to reject it. So, maybe it's a little of both.
Oh-and thank you for the invitation, that was very nice. I'm sure it's going to be a lovely party.

Thanks for the invitation. I hope you and your guests have a great party. Unfortunately, I am not into toys and lingerie, and am happier with one-to-one sex. Otherwise, if I lived a little closer, I would attend your party to meet you and others.

Why couldn't you have just left it alone to begin with ? She was only trying to post about a party at her home , inviting anyone who wishes to come. Then you had to go and pick it apart !!!! For petes sakes.

Bi, Gay, Lesbian...not a choice unless you are one of those flavour of the month types that do it to be in...which I never understood. Swingers..yes a choice. You choose to have sex with other couples and exchange partners and so on and so on.

D
I don't know how "lifestyle" is used in reference to gay/bi/trans/queer people in the UK.
But here in the US if someone equates being gay/bi/trans/queer with a lifestyle it's seen as being in very poor and in the sense that the person is homo/bi/trans-phobic since they equate sexuality/gender with a choice by using it with the word lifestyle.
I have to say that I agree. I hate how "lifestyle" is used in bad taste to define people who are homosexual/bi/trans.
I don't see how a sexual/gender orientation is a "lifestyle" and how either one could be equated with a "lifestyle" since everyone's totally different and as many homo/bisexual people will tell you how many feel that besides their sexuality they don't feel that they have anything in common with other homosexual and bisexual people.

I was replying to Dafydd's post about the word lifestyle and how it's used in the US and viewed with negativity when it's used to describe queer people's sexuality or gender.
What is the swinger lifestyle anyway?
A sex party with lots cocaine or meth? A key party like in the movie 'The Ice Storm'? A party where there are men and women there and the women can have sex with each other all they want, but the men can't? A wife swapping party?

Hey, DD, here's an idea --
How about asking them (oh wait, you and others chased them away!), instead of going off and using stereotypes...We hate that crap when it's done to us, but it always amazes me when we don't hesitate a MOMENT to do it to others.

If you do not want to go to a party because it is not your type of party, be happy that the host is willing to take the time and effort to provide you the opportunity to participate.
Why heap abuse on them?
All they did was try and be nice and invite everybody to come to their home and have a good time. I feel bad for the abuse they have endured. I read their profile; they only want to share what gives them joy with the rest of us.
I hope the party goes well so they can forget this ungrateful treatment. Why not be polite to nice people?

In the UK, there is a certain 'gay clone' lifestyle. Pretty boys, goto gym, take steriods, pump up, buy same clothes, get drunk on Friday, take e and K on Sat, party party, shirts off, circuits etc. sipping coffee on old compton st on Wed. talk about sex sex sex, who's cute who's not etc. Eat in gay restaurants, drink in gay bars, read gay magazines, have hair cut by gay hairdresser. happens every weekend, every week: lifestyle.
Wow if I had the body i'd do it too! :)
Here's one straight lifestyles e.g. the lad, who gets drunk every weekend, reads Loaded and Nuts, get the beers in lads, football maniac etc.
Sexual orientation e.g. who you get it up, who you fall in love with, whether you find the male/female form aesthetically pleasing is different.
Sexual orientation is about who you are. Living a lifestyle is about what you do.

I was not talking about all hairdressers, neither was I talking about all gay men, I was talking about certain gay men who will only get their hair cut by a gay hairdresser.
Now it all sounds absurd.
Unfortunately, the nature of the bisexual.com forum is that general topics which are started, quickly spiral into discussions about the nature of human sexuality and the many permutations of desire. This is great! (IMOH)
I was one of the first champions of the original poster, so I'm not sure what your issue is. I enjoy talking about this kind of stuff, because a) I don't know what's going on myself, b) I'm feeling my way in the dark with my own bisexuality and c) I appreciate others' point of view.
Yes it gets a bit heated, but I never take offense, nor do I intend to cause any.
Why don't you just roll with it? I'm on your side.
