Triad
by David Crosby
Crosby originally wrote this for the Byrds, but they apparently never released a recording of it until the 1990 boxed CD set. The first released version was Jefferson Airplane, "Crown Of Creation", 1968.

You want to know how it will be
Me and her, or you and me
You both stand there, your long hair flowing
Eyes alive, your minds still growing
Saying to me:
"What can we do now that we both love you?"
I love you too
I don't really see
Why can't we go on as three?

You are afraid, embarrased too
No one has ever said such a thing to you
Your mother's ghost stands at your shoulder
Face like ice, a little bit colder
Saying to you:
"You cannot do that it breaks all the rules
You learned in school."
I don't really see
Why can't we go on as three?

We love each other, it's plain to see
There's just one answer that comes to me
Sister lovers, water brothers
And in time, maybe others
So you see:
What we can do is to try something new
If you're crazy too
I don't really see
Why can't we go on as three?

Though this was posted so long ago now and no one has responded to it since, I just have to put my 2 cents in.....this was always one of my very favorite songs at the time and I never really knew why then. But it is so wonderful to go back there again. I loved the sultry Grace Slick vocal with Jefferson Airplane doing the vocals, but then loved David Crosby performing it with Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young on the live album 4Way Street...even the title to that album conjures up images though of course it meant the 4 of them. But again, Triad was always so much a very favorite song....I will always remember..thanks for the reminder.
