A audience member at a seminar on LGBT rights leaned into me and said "bisexuality for men is just fashionable...it's cool to say you like it both ways".
I sort of laughed and went "sure mate." but is there an element of truth to this...? not sure....what do people on the forum think?

It's more of a "fad" or something "cool" for women to say that they're bi when they're hetero.
I don't really know any bisexual men who aren't who say that they are to be "cool".

I would say It depends on who you are . my husband is bi and in any other site he will say he is gay, only because most gay guys don't like bi men.. He does not go looking for other women at all, just men..Im different, I tell it like it is.. I don't think its "cool" to say Im bi.. I just like both sexes, plain and simple.. then again when I say both sexes, I am talking primarily of my husband only as a male interest and any women I take interest in. I don't seek men like I seek women at all.. Does that make any sense??

Most things depend on who you are but that isn't always revelant. What the OP asked is if there's a fad.
I'd say the fad went away with the Golden Age of glam rock. How old is this person who thinks it's still cool? I meet far more people who think gay men and bisexual men are cool; just for the man/man thing.
Most people treat us like gay men; like teh fags, or just not an issue (or confused, or whatever). Those who feel it's cool are rare but I do like them muchly

IMO the public perception of male/male homosexuality is at an all-time low. Well, maybe not an ALL-TIME low, after all, homosexuality was once ILLEGAL. But you ask the average kid on the street, or even the average adult male on the street, what he thinks of them and I bet you it isn't too complimentary.
Women are a different kettle of fish (pun not really intended, lol), and female/female homosexuality is considered less taboo. Some women are also less homophobic too, I found from personal experience.
But IF there is a "Bi Fad" it would probably be amongst straight (?) women who have a few drinks and decide it would be fun to make out with their friends.

Somewhere buried in the forum is a thread about what some refer to as "party bisexuals".

i personally have met only one male who claimed to be bisexual only because he had a crush on me and thought it would bring us closer together. most of the men that i have met are either straight and don't want to be seen as anything other than that, or bisexual and only let a select few know so they aren't harassed. i only know a couple of men open to everyone. so, from my own experiences, i don't see how it would be a fad if no one even wants to admit it haha. let's face it, men realize that the world is so much more accepting of bisexual women.
speaking of which...women on the other hand...oh boy...i think there are only a handful of female friends of mine that are really bi. others that i have come across thought it was just the cool thing to be at the time and later changed their minds. this mainly happened in high school might i add.

Maybe it depends on where you're coming from. I wonder if it's more uncomfortable going from straight to bi, rather than gay to bi. It might not be "cool" but I don't think gay guys dislike bi men, actually I get the impression they fancy their socks off...I know I do.
Not sure I like the use of the word "fag" here either.
