Im sure we all have certain Hoildays where we release the side that no one sees very often. (such as dark side for halloween.... acting like a kid on Christmas....etc)

What hoildays do you love and how does it change you where people look at you and go "are you ok?" cause you normally don't act like that.

Mine:

Halloween - Lets me rant about Vampires all I want and theres nothing anyone can do cause its Halloween!!! :)
Lets me watch horror movies with excuses to scare whoever Im with REAL BAD. lol

Christmas - Pretty things... I admit Im still a child when it comes to presents. "OH LOOKIE!!!" *peeks and shakes box* at my parents Im snooping to find all the ones with my name on it lol

Valentine's Day - Lets me show off my VERY ROMANTIC NATURE.... still haven't found anyone to use it on :( But Im always open to giving ideas to those that ask :)

Currently I hate Easter so its now a hoilday I don't like and tell people its stupid. (This is temp... Im sure I'll like easter again someday)

Halloween is, because of my spiritual beliefs, a very special time of year. It's the equivalent of Memorial Day, when I take time to indulge in fond, melancholy memories of loved ones, both human and animal, who have crossed over.

It's also my New Year's Eve. It's a time to celebrate endings and new beginnings both. The wheel of the year turns loudest for me on that one night.

I don't celebrate Christmas or Easter, but I *do* celebrate Yule. I make pine cones covered in peanut butter and birdseed and string popcorn for the birds who, up north, would be very hungry.

Though I *do* admit I get a bit spoiled at Yule and kind of wheedle my way into an extra-special gift or two.

Easter and St. Patrick's day are days I don't observe.

4th of July I use as an excuse to blow stuff up, metaphorically. We buy WAY too many fireworks and set them off as a group with the neighbors.

I almost forgot! The biggest holiday of the entire year is my birthday! I spend the entire month of January indulging little fancies and pampering myself.

lol ya, I like my birthday too but its not much fun when people buy what you tell them too. (cause they asked) lol so it ruins the surprise since you have a clear idea whats in that box/bag from that person.

Christmas you're more surprised when it comes to presents.

THIS YEAR..... all Im telling people is to get me a GF or surprise me with something else lol Im tired of presents that I know what it is. hehe

(oh ya... I need a new digital camera.... I'll make it easy for my dad then who might not like the GF idea lol and he'll be better than me at picking cameras anyway.)

Christmas has always been one of my favorite holidays but nowadays I have this love hate relationship with it. It comes too fast and commercialism has taken a lot of the sparkle out of it. I miss the innocence and friendliness of it that you have as a child because you're too busy shopping.

Halloween was also a favorite but I don't go all out like I use to. I would turn my front yard into a grave yard with headstones and most years I was a vampire because they're my favorite.

Birthday's are another love/hate relationship. Like herbie, I like pampering myself through April but I always seem to be depressed starting in March. Guess it's the getting older thing but it wasn't a conscious thing till several years ago when I realized what was happening so I'm not sure.

I know what you mean about Christmas Arana.....

Back in the 80s as a child, I would go christmas shopping and everyones all nice and friendly. Smiling at you when you looked at them. Things were slow paced and not so rushed. Presents were opened slowly, peopel taking time to examine thier new goodie.

These days your shopping, encounter so many grumpy people who are in a rush, you smile at someone out of kindness and get a glare as if you did a bad thing lol
Presents are opened much to quickly and then moved on to the next.

THEN ITS OVER!!!!!!

Lately after all the presents are opened, Im sitting there going "Its over??" Cause it feels like it should have lasted longer lol

Well there is one special holiday, it's national holiday in Finland and celebrate a longest day (midsummer) when all over Scandinavia there is day 24h long. It's June 24
We call it Ukon juhla, and it's very amusing to be outside all the time and having fun (and staring at all those lovely Finnish girls)
Well since Finland is so far on north and summer is just 3 months long, holidays like this one have some sence.

Other holidays are not so amusing, i think it's too ordinary. This one's more traditional thing since 1316.

That sounds very cool Dagni, it's similar to the Summer Solstice here but nice that the whole community celebrates it. From what I read about it, it's a wonderful way to celebrate the season/nature/life.

Yes, it's great, and there's also similar holidays in other northern countries, cause you know, nature is very cruel and all those polar nights and polar days can be annoying. But i think i've been on Summer Solstiace and it's great, a real, real holiday.
oooooooh, mother nature!

I was in Iceland one summer and it was amazing to have the sun up for 24 hours to play soccer/futball all day and be outside. It is not like in Americia the sun comes down and you are inside after dark. I would really love to go back because it was so much fun.
