LONDON'S 2012 OLYMPIC LOGO REVEALED
Monday June 4,2007
By Polly Buchanan

EXCERPT:
THE dramatic new logo for the 2012 Olympics was unveiled today - in a series of very bright shades of pink, blue, green and orange as a modern take on the Olympic colours.
But already the public are pouring scorn on the new design. More than 4,500 people had already signed an online petition calling for a new logo within less than five hours of the logo been unveiled at a high profile London press conference.
Claire Allen, 29, a jewellery designer in London, said: "I think it’s a a weird choice. Why didn’t they use the national colours? I think it looks a bit immature and a bit homemade, like someone’s just knocked it up in about 10 minutes.
"It’s a bit weird. Some people wouldn’t even recognise it as saying 2012."
Aranza Gayosso, 21, an art student in London, added: "The colours remind me of McDonald’s.

Just... DAMN. It looks like bad 1980's graffiti.
I even said as much on the graphics department blog (http://sedtstudents.blogspot.com/) at my college.

Well, so say that this is the most attractive logo, would be a lie. What were they thinking? There are such wonders in the world, why not start with that as a base.

I hate to strike at raw nerves here, but I have to admit.... the French could have come up with better ideas if they had gotten the 12 Olympics.

Wow seriously is that our logo?! That sucks! I think my 10year old cousin could have come up with better?! But then, we never really got a chance to choose, those power hungry morons chose it, ah well, their problem, not ours, we all know that the olympic village wont even be finished by 2012, so its all going to be an embarrassment anyway!

It seems the logo is not only awful it is also unoriginal being inspired, if that is the correct word by a childrens television series of long before I was born called Tiswas. I spoke to my father about it and all he would say was it was very infantile, but that Sally James had large breasts, had a silly fool called Chris Tarrant presenting and also starred Lenny Henry (who is Sally James??? and I prefer to forget Chris Tarrant, although Lenny Henry is funny).
Now I do know about art and design, and this is not the former and a very poor example of the latter. It does seem however that this travesty will contribute £2billion pounds to the games so I suppose it must have something.
Personally I would not pay the designers in washers, and they should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves for spending a whole year coming up with a logo which a small child could easily produce to come bottom of a school art competition.

I have a feeling even the bottom entry of a school art competition would have come up with something better, foxy. It's just bad all around.

Taylor I'm gonna have to go with you in saying it looks like 1980's graffiti, and not very good graffiti to begin with. Yikes! The most I can muster is saying "I only have English ancestry, really!"

God I'm glad other people think the same as me about this.
The moment I saw it, and more importantly saw that it had cost £400,000 to produce, I wondered why the hell they didn't do a "Blue Peter" art competition and give the winner more than the usual badge and certificate?
(For the benefit of the colonies, Blue Peter is an educational childrens programme.)

And here's the latest:
The 'animated' version of the logo shown on television has been found to trigger off epileptic seizures in people with that condition.
Things can't get any worse. Surely.

And what was wrong with the old logo - the figures 2 0 1 2 with the coloured, parallel lines through them representing the twists and turns of the river Thames? It was simple and straightforward but rather elegant, I thought.

I'm figuring the negativity in this way - - when compared to the logos of previous Olympiad. . .

It comes away as a inferior design.
That's just my theory. You don't have to hate the 2012 logo, but...

AMEN brother... AMEN..
in my words... WTF were they thinking? were they having a "say it with Krylon" moment?
were they drunk?
no wait..heres a better one for ya..
the person responsible for this atrocity did this crap at the last minute after an all nighter binge drinking, smoking pot and collaborating with friends--got up late for work..dashed out the door, mussed up hair and all, flying into the office all disheveled and since no one else had a good idea, it stuck
and it
STINKS!!!
