Hey Y'all, The other day i was listening to the radio station i like to listen to. They were discussing a hypothetical that one of the guy's brought up.. Well here it is,, If you could work at a job you liked,it can be any job you'd like. For 4 years in a row and work every day of those 4 years. With no vacation time at all during those 4 years. But at the start of the 5th year, you would get one whole year of vacation would you do it?? Or here is the other part, would you work every year like you normally would but have 8 weeks of vacation time every year?? So which would you take the 8 weeks every year or the one whole year off with pay, after every 4 years?? It was a most interesting discussion they had,i thourghly enjoyed... So if you want to,tell us what youd do.. Imyself would take the 8 week's vacation, theres no way in hell id work 4 years straight without a vacation, ...LOL :bipride:

Got to go with 8 weeks a year. Some years take a week or two at a time, others maybe 6 or all eight for a European trip or to visit Australia or New Zeland.
Having to re-learn how to work after a year off.......

Be safe, have fun!

Hmm, now is that 4 years a 7 day work week or a 5 day? Because if it's a 5 day work week and a job I loved, I'd take the 1 year off.

On the other hand if it's a 7 day work week, I'd take the 8 weeks of vacation. After all if it's ajob I love, why wouldn't I mind being there for four years 5 days a week?

I agree with Herbwoman, if it's work everyday as in a normal work week heck yeah work all 4 years. But 7 days a week, no matter how much you love a job, you get burnt out eventually. 4 years would be a long time to hold out without ever having something happen that wouldn't set you back somehow and screw up that 5th year. It's hard to do in a normal work year.

I think the condition was work every day for the 4 years. No way! I would take the 8 weeks vaction. If I could split it up with 2 4 week vacations, enough to get me thru the year!

okay. As a Vet, I can say from the experience of getting 30 days of paid leave every year, that I would take the 8 weeks every year.

YIKE! Then I would definitely take the 8 weeks of vacation. 4 years without a break even for family emergencies would drive me insane.

I had a hard enough time taking 6 weeks maternity leave. I about went nuts, and other than that, I haven't had more than a week off since I graduated high school 6 years ago. Taking a whole year off just might kill me, but then, I'm coming to realize that I'm a certifiable workaholic.

I'm all over the eight weeks of paid vacation time. I KNOW this is going to sound cheesy, but as a parent that would mean that I would have time for sick kids AND some R&R.

*ducks the flying stones for being practical*

I'd settle for two weeks vacation time, seeing as how I only receive one week now. Hell, I've only taken one one-week vacation in the last three years. I tend to allow my vacation time to accumulate. It's great being retired!

Vacation? What is vacation when you have to catch up from any time you take off. If, I take 8 weeks off, I have to work overtime or weekends to make up for the time off. No one else is going to do the work; they do not know how to do the work. I am lucky if they comprehend the highlights of the end product of my work. The last time I took two weeks off, I worked for 6 weeks, 7 days a week, 10-12 hours/day to catch up, during which I was provided wonderful suggestions such as “you need to manage your time better”. I guess they were referring to more efficient use of 6 hrs sleep time. I like what I do, but it tends to own my life. I do some work every day. Take a year off? Maybe when the job dies or I am dead.

Also, I hate to admit it, not being busy stresses me out!

Yeah, I'd have to say I'd take the 8 weeks per year. If you took a year of vacation, your work would seem like a foreign place when you got back. Think of all the changes...

Both.

...and neither.

I'd start with the 4 years and 8 weeks vacation paid, but I would continue working during that 8 weeks getting my money working for ME, so that after the four years are up (or sooner), me and Sol can take the rest of our lives off.

there's just no way that i would be able to expect my employees having to work every single day....

i expect employees to think, and they need time away from the job to do that!
