This comes from an email I received from the Human Rights Campaign--an organization dedicated to the protecting and preserving rights for GLBT people. Please respond to the links and send messages to both of your US Senators urging them to support this legislation:

Hi,

Did you know that one in six hate crimes are motivated by the
victim's sexual orientation, and yet today's federal laws don't
include any protections for these Americans? What's even more
outrageous is that the radical right is running an all-out
campaign to stop Congress from expanding hate crimes laws to
include sexual orientation and gender identity - something three
out of four Americans support.

The Human Rights Campaign is asking all of us to contact our
Senators and urge them to pass this important legislation! To
send your letter, go to:

It is huge.
It matters.
It changes the way real people get to live and LOVE.
Make a difference.

Already done when I first heard about it on another site. :)

I figure at least one person in my state in the gov't will listen to my email but I figure the other person will not. :-\

In Ohio--our newest Senator--Sherrod Brown is one of the co-sponsors of the legislation, so I know he's for it--the other Senator--George Voinovich--he will most likely be against it--there are some things he varies from the Republican party on from time to time--but usually--he pretty much rubber stamps most of the things his party puts out--not much chance he will support this legislation I am willing to bet.
