Is it just me, or is the traditional symbol for female upside down?

If you flipped the female symbol upside down...then it would appear more logical to me. As it is, the symbols do not look equal and opposite. In fact, the symbols are actually sort of offensive. The female symbol looks like a little gal, and the male symbol looks like sex parts. Now while I'm sure we can all agree that we all probably know someone who is a "Tool", I don't think it's appropriate to describe two members of the same race one by sex organs and one by general shape.

What do yall think? (granted that this is seriously important stuff here but, hey, it's late and indulge me with your creativity)

lol perhaps the ancient symbols of the blade and the chalice are in fact the more appropriate symbols and should not have been changed

I don't recall the source of the male symbol but the female one is called an ankh and was the symbol of the Egyptian fertility Goddess Isis.

Thanks for all of your input. I didn't realize that the symbol for the female was supposed to be an ankh because I'm used to seeing that symbol with a curved headpiece instead of circular...but it makes sense.

The female symbol is also the Roman symbol for Venus......I think that the male symbol represents Mars, but I'm not sure.

Yeah I think they originally came from the deity/planet symbols for Mars & Venus and were later applied to human sexes.
