legal age?

hey. i was having a conversation the other day about what age poeple are legally allowed to have sex.

i know in the uk for MF sex it 16 but was wondering if any1 knows the age for FF or MM? It wood be quite interestin to see how these ages differ from country to country.

In the UK it's 16 whether MM, MF or FF.

Up until 1994 it was 21 for MM, then from 1994 to the end of the 1990s it was 18 for MM. Though there's a complication in that MM sex used to be against the law, and only became legal in England and Wales in 1967, in Scotland in 1980 and in Northern Ireland in 1982.

In the states, the different states have their own laws on age of consent. Here in NY I believe it is 18, when I lived in one of the Southern states the consent age was 16.

If the unpermitted sex was mm or ff, the same laws apply. But most would tend to be too embarrassed to report that, or in cases of mm. Most likely would end up with some sort of pediphilic charge. Never have heard of a case of ff being prosecuted on an age of consent issue.

I seem to remember, in the UK, that MF anal is/was illegal, has been for hundreds of years but no-one has bothered repealing the law. Maybe it was repealed the same time that mm anal was too?

November 22, 2002, LONDON—British Home Secretary David Blunkett announced this week that the Labour government would pursue the most radical overhaul of sex crime legislation for more than 100 years. Though arrests in Britain for private sexual activity are rare, several high profile cases involving the prosecution of gay men have shown the need for serious reform, rights advocates say.

In January of 1998, seven men were convicted of offenses including sodomy and gross indecency after police seized sexually explicit video tapes on which they had recorded themselves. Known as the "Bolton Seven" the men were spared jail terms after loud national protests.

"Five of the seven men were convicted under the same gross indecency laws used to convict Oscar Wilde in 1895," said gay rights advocate Peter Tatchell of the 1998 trial. "Three were prosecuted under a buggery law that dates back to 1533."

In announcing the planned overhaul of the laws, Blunkett declared, "The law on sex offenses is widely recognized as archaic, incoherent and discriminatory... Much of it belongs in an age before the light bulb or motor car," he said,

The reforms liberalizing prohibitions on adult behavior will be introduced along with a tightening of laws protecting children. Child abuse laws will be updated, the sex offenders register tightened and a new offense of "grooming" children for sex abuse on the Internet will be formalized.

Said the Home Secretary, "We must have laws that are fit for the 21st century, that reflect today’s society and attitudes and provide effective protection against today’s crimes."

Didn't find anything about mf anal, though the site has a funky map of world sodomy law.

Not so. MM anal sex was variously decriminalised in 1967 / 80 / 82 as I laid out earlier. MF anal sex was illegal until 1994, when it was legalised with an age of consent of 18 (equal to the new age for MM anal sex but not equal to other forms of MF or FF sex -- so the homophobes could crazily claim there was now full equality).

When the age of consent for MM came down to 16 so did the MF anal sex age.

I am a very firm believer that children and adults should not engage in sex--but we have lost all sense of perspective in this country today on matters of people of the same relative age having sex with one another.

The following is a true story from my days as a probation officer---

I wound up picking up a case that centered on an 18-year old boy having sexual relations with a 14-year old girl---

The two had been together for some time--and the charges came literally within hours of the boy turning 18 years of age--

He and the girl had been having sex for sometime and it was ok for him to have sex with her when he was 17 under Ohio law at the time but when he became 18 it became a problem.

Now--while this boy and he was a boy--had turned 18--I had psych evals from the past and a new one conducted that showed his mental age at around 13 years of age---

But that did not matter to the girl's parents who did not want the girl being with the boy and to my colleagues at the county Prosecutting Attorney's office--they were going to press for felony statutory rape charges---

So that is what happened legally--he took the plea and got probation.

One of the conditions of probation prohibited him from seeing the girl--but do you think such things like that are going to stop two young people in love?

NO-they did not---

My "client" and the girl ran away and of course I had to do a VOP (Violation of Probation) almost immediately----

We put out a multi-state warrant and the pair were soon found down in Kentucky and I had to go get my boy--the girl was taken home by her parents.

Well--the judge could have revoked the probation at that point but he was our "good judge" who was pretty reasonable--he told me to work with the boy and to make it clear to him not to be with the girl anymore---

I worked with the boy and the girl--tellling them that for now--they could not be together --that to continue to do so would mean the boy would go to prison---

I had social workers--the attorney for the boy and all kinds of people helping me with this case---

Long story made shorter--the boy and girl would not remain apart and I eventually had to recommend to judge and he agreed--the boy had to go to prison---so he did

I shudder to think what happened to him in a state correctional facility--putting that boy into a prison is like throwing chum to a hoard of hungry sharks----

He could barely make his way in the "real" world--let alone a place like a prison filled with white Aryan Brotherhood types, gang bangers, pimps, druggies, etc.


It was among the most disturbing cases I ever dealt with ----other than one in which I had a guy that I knew was a rapist and murderer who until he shot and almost killed a Sheriff's Deputy--I could not get locked up----

That is our modern "criminal justice system" at work folks----

In the US, it's 18 at the Federal level, though that seems to be more a default setting based on the age at which people can make their own legal decisions. States are allowed to enforce their own statues about age of consent, though. I believe the age of consent is 16 in most states (when the charge would be 'contributing to the delinquincy/indecency of a minor' or something as opposed to 'statutory rape' if they're with someone over 18). But, in the state of Georgia and a few other southern states, if the girl is pregnant and wants to marry the father, then the age of 'consent' is basically considered to be 14 so she can legally (even if her parents disagree) get married to the father of the child without reprecussion based on age differences.

Thanks for correcting me, knew I was a bit hazy. Amazing that mm anal was legal from 67 but mf anal was still illegal until 94, lol.

I wonder what the campaign for mf anal was like? (if there was one) I can imagine placard carrying marchers for gay rights, but for mf anal? Presumably it was legalised since it was a waste of taxpayers money to pursue cases or something.

I believe that as recently as the 1960's a girl in Quebec could marry at the age of 12, with a parent's note. Perhaps one of our members from la belle province can clarify when/whether this changed?
