Hey guys. More wedding posting...I know...lol. But I just dont know where else to go for advice!!!

I have my grandmothers engagement ring. Its pear shaped and absolutely beautiful but with the setting that it's in, I cant wear a wedding band. I would like to have it redesigned with some very minor alterations...but have no clue where to go to have something like that done. I've searched online, but can't find anything.

Anyone know of places I can have this done at?

Most reputable jewelry stores can help you find a place to get it redesigned or they can redesign it themselves. I would choose one that is very well known in your community...possibly locally owned and operated with many many years of good service! Good luck to you!

we found a friendly, small-scale jeweler who we worked with to design and create a wedding set for my wife. took an existing setting, lowered the stone in it, so it sat down flush, found a band that matched.

none of this was very expensive, just took finding the right people to work with. find a nice jeweler you feel comfortable with, make sure he/she is getting some business from you - maybe, you're buying the band from him, and your husband's band as well, and gonna have them refit your heirloomring. i'll bet you could then get them to swing you a deal on the refit of your heirloom ring...

I had a similar problem with my engagement ring. we got a wrap style band that keeps the focus on the solitaire, but adds to it. I love it

If you don't have a map/chart of the diamond be VERY VERY VERY careful about taking it to someone. You may not get back what you brought.

Excellent, excellent advice. All diamonds have what is called 'inclusions' and those are like fingerprints. No two are alike. Great word of caution from FireRaven.

I agree with several posts on here, one: Most reputable jewelry stores can help you, either doing the work themselves or recommending a place, and two: be careful about who you take it to, I've heard too many stores about that!

Good luck,

Thank you all soooooooo much for the excellent advice and for ignoring the fact that I ended a sentence in a preposition. lol. West Virginia is rubbing off I suppose. ;)

I prefer it when pretty girls, even those from West Virginia, end their sentences in a PROPOSITION.
