Okay look - I could write out an extremely long post, but I don't think it's necessary.

I'm a Kinsey 5. I'm perfectly happy being totally gay 90% of the time, but every once in a while... not so much. Do you call that gay or bi?

(And yes I've looked into sequential bisexuality. I don't think this is like that, at least not most of the time... It's like a I'm a gay guy with sporadic but very strong straight tendencies.)

I know it's stupid, but I'm going nuts. What say you?

It is what you say it is. Define for yourself what you are.

I think my husband calls himself gay or bi depending on the situation. I certainly don't mind you calling yourself gay or bi. It's up to you.

Remember... when your labelling yourself, you are only giving the broad strokes. In other words... i could tell you that i am sitting in a chair right now. "Chair" is a label. But if i tell you that i am sitting in a chair, it doesn't really tell you anything about what type of chair it is. You are telling people something about yourself, but not everything. No label is that good to tell you everything.

What do you want to tell people? Do you want to tell different people different things, maybe to highlight some aspects, or maybe to blend in?

Will knowing the answer to this make you a better person? Change who you are? Determine who and what you want out of life? If "Yes" is the answer I wish you all the luck in figuring this out.

I think most of the labels are political bullshit, personally. Lots of people like to stick them on themselves to create artificial separation between themselves and others - I guess it makes them feel safe or something, I dunno.

If I was in your shoes, and I was for a time, I'd spend more time trying to figure out who I am rather than what, and totally ignore the Kinsey scale. IMO it's outdated, too static, too linear, and too binary. Also, don't try to put yourself in ratios/percents since well, it's pointless, and even if you did somehow know the EXACT ratio/percent of your attractions what good would it do?

I know some men who are bisexual that call themselves "gay" since they are afraid of what calling themselves bisexual will do to them in the eyes of the gay "community" and some of the close minded biphobic fags that people seem to encounter. If bisexual were a more neutral word people would be more likely to use it to describe themselves and their behavior.

You don't have to define yourself to yourself. You know what you are. You just told me. You couldn't define yourself in a single word, because who could? We all need a paragragh to come even close.

But we need labels. We need labels to talk. Every word IS a label. :2cents:

I had a girlfriend many years ago who self identified as lesbian. However, on several occasions, she had sex with men.

I'm mostly into women, but I'm also married to a man. I've used labels for myself such as bisexual, but more often, I use queer. I just find it fits my situation more accurately.

I guess what I am saying is, if you feel what/who you are is gay. Then that is whowhat you are. If you want a label for yourself, that is. If not, then just *be*

You don't have to define yourself to yourself. You know what you are. You just told me.

I have to really agree with this statement. I mean you know what you are like Lorcan said...you don't need us or anyone to define you.
