when you say you are gay, you are assuming an identity, an identity a lot of men (myself included) simply cannot identify with. I am throughly bisexual which means that I not only enjoy sex with women but sex with men as well (well duh) but I don't relate to the whole gay scene at all. When you say that you are bisexual, you are stating your personal history without any assumptions about an identity at all (of course you feel like you need one). BUT when you say that you are straight, generally speaking, there is no such thing as a straight identity...it just means you like doing it with the opposite sex.
One of the problems with our society is that we are heavily invested in dualism. Black/white, male/female, liberal/conservative, straight/gay etc. and for a lot of people (men especially) have never been exposed to the third viable sexual option, i.e. bisexuality, and when even in the case of men who have frequent sex with other men, for whom the gay identity simply does not fit, the only recourse is to refer to themselves as straight...there is even a book out called "Black Men Who Sleep With Other Men"... which is in the same vein. It is essentially a denial of the homosexual element of their sexuality by drawing some sort of distinction.
In the long run its rather sad actually. We are so much more than our sexual expression but people have been bought and sold into the idea that it is somehow central to who they are, when in actuality, its only a portion thereof.

LOL! Only when it comes to bigots, liars and hypocrits. Though I've noticed that the older I get, the less tolerance I have for that which I percieve as idiocy.
Would you believe i used to be a pacifist??

"Beat on the brat with a baseball bat
beat on the brat with a baseball bat.
What do you do with a brat like that?
You beat on the brat with a baseball bat."
I loved the Ramones...they were always went straight to the point.

btw, if it counts for anything we seem to be overwhelming them with facts and reality.

Sorry there JrzGuy--I meant to write--"off of SITE" thread
Hey--I used to work in newspapers and while I was not an editor--it was amazing how many times even the editors screwed up headlines--
The editor's most feared mistake---putting "pubic" instead of "public"
As far as using the term "y'all" I had a professor of English at a major southern university defend the use of that contraction---stating that it is a version of "all of you."
In spite of my "mistakes" --it seems that everyone understood what I was attempting to say in the headline.....
