When I was six years old I played by the Christmas tree on new years eve.
When midnight tolled my Mom picked me up, showered me with kisses, and squeezed me so.

At 16 year old, I was too cool to stay at home.
No more New Years eve with Mom, even though she begged me so.

Soon I was 26 years old, living in another state, far away.
Only saw Mom a few times a year, and so it goes.

At 36 years old a job promotion came that moved me far away,
Mom cried, "please stay..." To no avail.

At 46 years old, still far away, I only flew back every few years or so...

At 56 years old, my Mom died, you know I didn't even cry.

Now close to 60 years old, Mama's gone, and Dad's in a home, soon to go.
I crave for days gone by playing with my cousins on New Years eve when I was six years old.
I was so young, hugged by my Mom when the ball dropped, and and seeing her cry tears of joy. How I remember the warmth of her face pressed against mine, so long ago.

Its been years since she died, but now I finally cried, missing her more than I ever could of thought.
Now its too late, soon I will be gone, so I tell you this, show your love, cause someday you will be 60 years old, and maybe be all alone, just as I left my Mom alone, and so it goes.

How I wish I was six years old...
