View Full Version : Describe Yourself In Song

Someone asked me what I thought was an interesting question the other day. "What song lyrics best describe you?" I'm a singer and a musician, my life has a soundtrack. I have a song for everything. This was easy for me, hell, I've had a personal theme song for years, although I admit my song changes fairly often. lol At any rate, I thought it would fun to see what y'all had to say on this topic.

SO....What song lyrics best describe you and why?

I'm through accepting limits
'Cuz someone says they're so
Defying Gravity, from Wicked the Musical

This song suits me right now because I have recently embarked on a very new chapter of my life. I spent years in an abusive relationship, denying what I really wanted in life. Those days are over. I'm living my life the way I see fit now. I'm chasing my own dreams on my own terms. Its full on, "go big or go home" time. I'm surrounding myself with people who support me. Using the naysayers as inspiration to dream bigger.

I don't have a theme song, but I DO have a line that describes me perfectly.

Cute....but kind of strange

The songs that *were* themes for me are from a very bad time in my life when I contemplated suicide often. There's only one that I look on positively anymore. "Silent All These Years: by Tori Amos. Anyone who has survived an abusive relationship can relate to these lyrics.

"Excuse me but can I be you for a while
My dog wont bite if you sit real still
I got the anti-christ in the kitchen yellin at me again
Yeah I can hear that

Been saved again by the garbage truck
I got something to say you know but nothing comes
Yes I know what you think of me- you never shut up
Yeah I can hear that

But what if Im a mermaid
In these jeans of his with her name still on it
Hey but I dont care cause sometimes, I said sometimes
I hear my voice and its been here
Silent all these years

So you found a girl who thinks really deep thoughts
Whats so amazing about really deep thoughts
Boy you best pray that I bleed real soon
Hows that thought for ya

My scream got lost in a paper cup
You think theres a heaven where some screams have gone
I got 25 bucks and a cracker, go you think its enough
To get us there

Cause what if Im a mermaid
In these jeans of his with her name still on it
Hey but I dont care cause sometimes, I said sometimes
I hear my voice and its been here
Silent all these years

Years go by will I still be waiting
For somebody else to understand
Years go by if Im stripped of my beauty
And the orange cloud raining in my head
Years go by will I choke on my tears
Till finally there is nothing left
One more casualty
You know were too easy easy easy

Well I love the way we communicate
Your eyes focus on my funny lip shade
Lets hear what you think of me now but baby dont look up
The sky is falling

Your Mom shows up in a nasty dress
Its your turn now to stand where I stand
Everybody lookin at you, here take a hold of my hand
Yeah I can hear them

But what if Im a mermaid
In these jeans of his with her name still on it
Hey but I dont care cause sometimes, I said sometimes
I hear my voice
I hear my voice
I hear my voice
And its been here
Silent all these years
Ive been here
Silent all these years"

My lifes soundtrack is of Pink Floyd. But if i had to pick onesong would be "Comfortly Numb". It's a song that can reach down in me and inspire and depress me soemtimes at the same time. I listen to when I down in the dumps and pick me up with the riffs. It's hard to explain, but it's what move me.

Bat Country by Avenged Sevenfold
"He who makes a beast out of himself, gets rid of the pain of being a man"

Caught here in a fiery blaze, won't lose my will to stay.
I trie-ie-ied to drive all through the night,
the heat stroke ridden weather, the barren empty sights.
No oasis here to see, the sand is singing deathless words to me.

Can't you help me as I'm startin' to burn (all alone).
Too many doses and I'm starting to get an attraction.
My confidence is leaving me on my own (all alone).
No one can save me and you know I don't want the attention.

As Ie-ie-ie adjust to my new sights the rarely tired lights will take me to new heights.
My hand is on the trigger I'm ready to ignite.
Tomorrow might not make it but everything's all right.
Mental fiction follows me; show me what it's like to be set free.

So sorry you're not here I've been sane too long my vision's so unclear.
Now take a trip with me but don't be surprised when things aren't what they seem.

Caught here in a fiery blaze, won't lose my will to stay.
These eyes won't see the same, after I flip today.

Sometimes I don't know why we'd rather live than die,
we look up towards the sky for answers to our lives.
We may get some solutions but most just pass us by,
don't want your absolution cause I can't make it right.
I'll make a beast out of myself, gets rid of all the pain of being a man.

So sorry your not here I've been sane
too long my vision's so unclear.
Now take a trip with me but don't be
surprised when things aren't what they seem
I've known it from the start all these good ideas will tear your brain apart.
Scared but you can follow me I'm too weird to live but much too rare to die.

A little more poppy than I usually go, but I like this band. You've probably heard this on the radio.

All the faces
All the voices blur
Change to one face
Change to one voice
Prepare yourself for bed
The light seems bright
And glares on white walls
All the sounds of
Charlotte sometimes
Into the night with
Charlotte sometimes

Night after night she lay alone in bed
Her eyes so open to the dark
The streets all looked so strange
They seemed so far away
But Charlotte did not cry

The people seemed so close
Playing expressionless games
The people seemed
So close
So many
Other names...

Sometimes I'm dreaming
Where all the other people dance
Sometimes I'm dreaming
Charlotte sometimes
Sometimes I'm dreaming
Expressionless the trance
Sometimes I'm dreaming
So many different names
Sometimes I'm dreaming
The sounds all stay the same
Sometimes I'm dreaming
She hopes to open shadowed eyes
On a different world
Come to me
Scared princess
Charlotte sometimes

On that bleak track
(See the sun is gone again)
The tears were pouring down her face
She was crying and crying for a girl
Who died so many years before...

Sometimes I dream
Where all the other people dance
Sometimes I dream
Charlotte sometimes
Sometimes I dream
The sounds all stay the same
Sometimes I'm dreaming
There are so many different names
Sometimes I dream
Sometimes I dream...

Charlotte sometimes crying for herself
Charlotte sometimes dreams a wall around herself
But it's always with love
With so much love it looks like
Everything else
Of Charlotte sometimes
So far away
Glass sealed and pretty
Charlotte sometimes

Here are the lyrics to a couple of favorite songs--the top one is the song from which I derive my signature line below and the other is the one that I get my handle on here from

TIN CUP CHALICE
Jimmy Buffett
I want to go back to the island,
Where the shrimp boats tie up to the pilin'.
Give me oysters and beer for dinner ev'ry day of the year,
And I'll feel fine, I'll feel fine.

Chorus:
'Cause I want to be there,
I want to go back down and lie beside the sea there.
With a tin cup for a chalice
Fill it up with good red wine,
And I'm-a chewin' on a honeysuckle vine.

Yeah, now the sun goes slidin' 'cross the water;
Sailboats, they go searchin' for the breeze.
Salt air it ain't thin,
It can stick right to your skin,
And make you feel fine.
It makes you feel fine.

Cause I want to be there, gonna get high by the sea there
with a tin cup for a chalice--fill it up with good red wine
and I'll be chewin' on a honeysuckle vine...

Yes, and now you heard my strange proposal;
Get that Packard running and let's move.
I want to be there before the day
Tries to steal away and leave us behind;

I've made up my mind

I wanna go back down and die beside the sea there---
With a tin cup for a chalice--fill it up with good red wine
and be a chewin' on a honeysuckle vine (repeat last line one more time)

TWELVE VOLT MAN
Jimmy Buffett
I never got a grip in penmanship
Could never make those small l's flow
Seldom found the trick to arithmetic
Three plus two be faux pas

But ask for some palm trees
Or tales from the South Seas and I might turn some heads

I never had the clout to knock one out
But hitting was the name of my game
Standing on third as the coaches conferred
So close to my first claim to fame

Just give me the steal sign
And I'll make home plate mine
And I just might turn some heads

Sometimes I may get a little drastic
Sometimes I just let my feelings show
Sometimes I may be a bit sarcastic
Most times that's the way the story goes

Now I know this Joe down in Mexico
He went there to work on his tan
For years he's been plugged into blenders and songs

They call him the Twelve Volt Man

ahhhhh!!!!

He don't need no charge card
Just give him a die-hard
And he'll make sparks fly round your head

Or just ask for some palm trees
Or tales from the South Seas
And I'll make sparks fly round your head
Round your head
In your head
In your head

"I'm in a hurry (and don't know why)" By Alabama

I'm in a hurry to get things done

All I really gotta do is live and die

Very good post.

I've always identified with "Hey Bulldog" by the Beatles.

Sheep dog standing in the rain
Bull frog doing it again
Some kind of happiness is
measured out in miles
What make you think you're
something special when you smile

Childlike no on understands
Jack knife in your sweaty hands
Some kind of innocence is
measured out in years
You don't know what it's like
to listen to you fears

You can talk to me
You can talk to me
You can talk to me
If you're lonely, you can talk to me

Big man walking in the park
Wigwam frightened of the dark
Some kind of solitude is
measured out in you
You think you know but you haven't got a clue

You can talk to me
You can talk to me
You can talk to me
If you're lonely, you can talk to me

Hey Bulldog

This is the song I want played at my memorial when I die. :)

the song that best describes me right at this moment would have to be Rod Stewart's "infatuation"...oooh yeah

Early in the morning I cant sleep
I cant work and I cant eat
Ive been drunk all day, cant concentrate
Maybe Im making a big mistake

Caught me down like a killer shark
Its like a railroad running right through my heart
Jekyll and hyde the way I behave
Feel like Im running on an empty gauge

Oh no not again
It hurts so good
I dont understand
Infatuation
Infatuation
Infatuation
Infatuation

Heart beats silly like a big bass drum
Losing all equilibrium
Its so hard in the middle of the week
Maybe this womans just all I need

Oh no not again
It hurts so good
I dont understand
Infatuation
Infatuation
Infatuation
Infatuation
fatuate me baby

Spirits soar when Im by her side
She put a little love in this heart of mine
Maybe Im lucky, maybe Im freed
Maybe this womans just all I need

Oh no not again
It hurts so good
I dont understand
Infatuation
Infatuation
Infatuation
Infatuation
Rev it up

rev it up, baby :tong:

I think this song describe me in more direct way:

You're the one I would pick out in a million
You're the one I would wish for as the friend of my life
If the whole world decided for a colour
Would pixels be any different in you

Brave and smart against the rules
You smile upon the fools
I follow where you go
I want you to know:

Don't stop being crazy
Wherever you go
Don't stop being crazy
It's a lie
It's a lie
It's a lie we could not learn to fly
Oh no
Don't stop being crazy

When you walk you walk higher than the others
When you talk you talk merciless the bothering truth
Everybody seems remote-controlled nowadays
Only you have a frequency far beyond their ways

Still and strong you walk alone
Don't wonder where they're gone
I'll follow where you goI want you to know:

Don't stop being crazy
Wherever you go
Don't stop being crazy
It's a lie
It's a lie
It's a lie we could not learn to fly
Oh no
Don't stop being crazy

The Whole of the Moon

I pictured a rainbow
You held it in your hands
I had flashes
You saw the plan
I wandered out in the world for years
While you just stayed in your room
I saw the crescent
You saw the whole of the moon!
The whole of the moon!

You were there at the turnstiles
With the wind at your heels
You stretched for the stars
And you know how it feels
To reach too high
Too far
Too soon
You saw the whole of the moon!

I was grounded
While you filled the skies
I was dumbfounded by truth
You cut through lies
I saw the rain-dirty valley
You saw Brigadoon
I saw the crescent
You saw the whole of the moon!

I spoke about wings
You just flew
I wondered, I guessed, and I tried
You just knew
I sighed
And you swooned
I saw the crescent
You saw the whole of the moon!
The whole of the moon!

With a torch in your pocket
And the wind at your heels
You climbed on the ladder
And you know how it feels
To reach too high
Too far
Too soon
You saw the whole of the moon!
The whole of the moon!

Unicorns and cannonballs,
Palaces and piers,
Trumpets, towers, and tenements,
Wide oceans full of tears,
Flag, rags, ferry boats,
Scimitars and scarves,
Every precious dream and vision
Underneath the stars

You climbed on the ladder
With the wind in your sails
You came like a comet
Blazing your trail
Too high
Too far
Too soon
You saw the whole of the moon!

i suppose the most would agree the song that describes me most is
I Can't Say No - from the musical Oklahoma

Don't know the Lyrics

allbimyself
Aug 23, 2006, 8:17 PM
Well, I can't say it described me, but it's how I feel right now:

If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that Id like to do
Is to save every day
Till eternity passes away
Just to spend them with you

If I could make days last forever
If words could make wishes come true
Id save every day like a treasure and then,
Again, I would spend them with you

But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do
Once you find them
Ive looked around enough to know
That youre the one I want to go
Through time with

If I had a box just for wishes
And dreams that had never come true
The box would be empty
Except for the memory
Of how they were answered by you

But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do
Once you find them
Ive looked around enough to know
That youre the one I want to go
Through time with

Megadeth: In My Darkest Hour

In my hour of need
Ha [no] youre not there
And though I reached out for you
Wouldnt lend a hand.

Through the darkest hour
Grace did not shine on me
It feels so cold, very cold
No one cares for me.

Did you ever think I get lonely
Did you ever think that I needed love
Did you ever think to stop thinking
Youre the only one that Im thinking of.

Youll never know how hard I tried
To find my space and satisfy you too.

Things will be better when Im dead and gone
Dont try to understand, knowing you Im probably wrong.

But oh how I lived my life for you
Still youd turn away
Now as I die for you
My flesh still crawls as I breathe your name
All these years I thought I was wrong
Now I know it was you
Raise you head, raise your face your eyes
Tell me who you think you are, who?

I walk, I walk alone
Into the promised land.

Theres a better place for me
But its far, far away
Everlasting life for me
In a perfect world
But I gotta die first,
Please God send me on my way.

Time has a way of taking time
Loneliness is not only felt be fools
Alone I call to ease the pain
Yearning to be held by you, alone so alone, Im lost
Consumed by the pain
The pain, the pain, the pain.

Wont you hold me again
You just laughed, ha ha, bitch
My whole life is work built on the past
But the time has come when all things shall pass
This good thing passed away.

In my darkest hour.

The song that best describes us is Nickleback's Figure You Out. It is very fast past, dirty, and a great song to screw to  . If you like rock and aren't familiar with it I would highly recommend downloading it. The songs main versus are

I like your pants around your feet
I like the dirt upon your knees
I like the way you say please while
Your looking up at me
Your like my favorite damn disease

I love the places that we go
I love the people that you know
I love the way you can't say no
To many long lines that you wrote
I like the powder on your nose

Now I know who you are
It wasn't that hard to just to figure you out
Now I know who you are
It wasn't that hard to figure you out

I like the freckles on your chest
I like the way you like me best
I like the way your not impressed as you put me to the test
I like the white stains on your dress

I like the way you pass the check
I love the good times that you wreck
I love your lack of selfrespect as your passed out on the deck
I love my hands wrapped around your neck

Now I know who you are
It wasn't that hard to just to figure you out
Now I know who you are
It wasn't that hard to figure you out

I like your pants around your feet
I like the dirt upon your knees
I like the way you say please while
Your looking up at me
Your like my favorite damn disease

I hate the places that we go
I hate the people that you know
I hate the way you can't say no
To many long lines that you wrote
I hate the powder on your nose

Now I know who you are
It wasn't that hard to just to figure you out
Now I know who you are
It wasn't that hard to figure you out

Answering this thread has worked out good for me since I've had to play this song many times to get the words, it has gotten my wife in a very oral mood. Gotta Go

OK, I guess I'm not really describing myself, but how I feel:

Theres distance between us
And youre on my mind
As I lay here in the darkness
I can find no peace inside
I wish you were here holding me tight
If I had you near it would make it alright
I wish you were here
cause I feel like a child tonight

Rain on my window
I can count the drops
But I cant help feeling lonely
Theres no way I can stop
I wish you were here holding me tight
If I had you near it would make it alright
I wish you were here
cause I feel like a child tonight

Each moment is a memory
Time is so unkind
Every hour, filled with an emptiness I cant hide
Theres distance between us
And youre on my mind
As I lay here in the darkness
I can find no peace inside
I wish you were here holding me tight
If I had you near it would make it alright
I wish you were here
cause I feel like a child tonight

I'd be willing to say that most people have songs that they identify with, but depending on where they are in their life, those songs change.

In high school, mine was Jane Siberry's "It can't rain all the time",
When newly married and expecting, mine was Kenny Loggins "Danny's Song",
and now, it's Alex Parks "Maybe that's what it takes".

an exerpt from Alex Parks "Maybe that's what it takes":

Looking back
How did I get here?
Chasing circles
Never thought so near
Shaded by the red
Now I want you
I walk this way in my dreams slowly
Far away
Your distant light's on me
I'm shaded by the red
Now I want you.

Thanks to all of you who were concerned about me.
I'm a big girl, but it's nice to know people care.

this beloved song just resonated w/ me today...

Lay, lady, lay, lay across my big brass bed
Lay, lady, lay, lay across my big brass bed
Whatever colors you have in your mind
I'll show them to you and you'll see them shine

Lay, lady, lay, lay across my big brass bed
Stay, lady, stay, stay with your man awhile
Until the break of day, let me see you make him smile
His clothes are dirty but his hands are clean
And you're the best thing that he's ever seen

Stay, lady, stay, stay with your man awhile
Why wait any longer for the world to begin
You can have your cake and eat it too
Why wait any longer for the one you love
When he's standing in front of you

Lay, lady, lay, lay across my big brass bed
Stay, lady, stay, stay while the night is still ahead
I long to see you in the morning light
I long to reach for you in the night
Stay, lady, stay, stay while the night is still ahead

Close your eyes, give me your hand, darling
Do you feel my heart beating, do you understand?
Do you feel the same, am I only dreaming?
Is this burning an eternal flame?

I believe it's meant to be, darling
I watch when you are sleeping, you belong to me
Do you feel the same, am I only dreaming
Or is this burning an eternal flame?

Say my name, sun shines through the rain
A whole life so lonely, and then you come and ease the pain
I don't want to lose this feeling

Say my name, sun shines through the rain
A whole life so lonely, and then you come and ease the pain
I don't want to lose this feeling

Close your eyes and give me your hand
Do you feel my heart beating, do you understand?
Do you feel the same, am I only dreaming

Ok, I haven't been playing fair... been describing how I feel, not posting lyrics describing me... the closest is "What I Am"

I'm not aware of too many things
I know what I know, if you know what I mean
Philosophy is the talk on a cereal box
Religion is the smile on a dog
I'm not aware of too many things
I know what I know, if you know what I mean, d-doo yeah

Choke me in the shallow waters
Before I get too deep

What I am is what I am
Are you what you are or what?
What I am is what I am
Are you what you are or

Oh, I'm not aware of too many things
I know what I know, if you know what I mean
Philosophy is a walk on the slippery rocks
Religion is a light in the fog
I'm not aware of too many things
I know what I know, if you know what I mean, d-doo yeah

Choke me in the shallow water
Before I get too deep

What I am is what I am
Are you what you are or what?
What I am is what I am
Are you what you are or what?

What I am is what I am
Are you what you are or what?
What I am is what I am
Are you what you are or what you are and

What I am is what I am
Are you what you are or what?

Don't let me get too deep
Don't let me get too deep
Don't let me get too deep
Don't let me get too deep

Choke me in the shallow water

Choke me in the shallow water

Thought of another:

This is the day
Of the expanding man
That shape is my shade
There where I used to stand
It seems like only yesterday
I gazed through the glass
At ramblers
Wild gamblers
Thats all in the past

You call me a fool
You say its a crazy scheme
This ones for real
I already bought the dream
So useless to ask me why
Throw a kiss and say goodbye
I'll make it this time
I'm ready to cross that fine line

I'll learn to work the saxophone
I, I play just what I feel
Drink scotch whisky all night long
And die behind the wheel
They got a name for the winners in the world
I want a name when I lose
They call alabama the crimson tide
Call me deacon blues

My back to the wall
A victim of laughing chance
This is for me
The essence of true romance
Sharing the things we know and love
With those of my kind
Libations
Sensations
That stagger the mind

I crawl like a viper
Through these suburban streets
Make love to these women
Languid and bittersweet
I'll rise when the sun goes down
Cover every game in town
A world of my own
I'll make it my home sweet home

I'll learn to work the saxophone
I, I play just what I feel
Drink scotch whisky all night long
And die behind the wheel
They got a name for the winners in the world
I want a name when I lose
They call alabama the crimson tide
Call me deacon blues

This is the night
Of the expanding the man
I take one last drag
As I approach the stand
I cried when I wrote this song
Sue me if I play too long
This brother is free
I'll be what I want to be

I'll learn to work the saxophone
I, I play just what I feel
Drink scotch whisky all night long
And die behind the wheel
They got a name for the winners in the world
I want a name when I lose
They call alabama the crimson tide
Call me deacon blues

I cannot pick one song or even ten that describe me or resonate within my life, because music is my life. The list would simply be endless...

That said, I still want to contribute. So this spunky and melodically upbeat song definitely catches one aspect of how I've felt about society since I was young. (It reads as very dark and horrible, but it's really quite adorable and catchy.)

The Aquabats - Chemical Bomb

I was at the supermarket
Watching people cut in line
I started thinking about human nature
What would you do
if there was no more food?

My mind began to wonder
About greed and hunger
And just how many other countries
Are getting ready for another war

But the sun was shining
And everything seems fine
So count me in
I'll see you on the other side

Chemical bomb
Chemical bomb
Eyes melt, skin explodes
Everybody dead
It won't be long
It won't be long
People gonna run around
Losing their heads
A river of blood
Who's gonna live?
The earth is tired of human kind
And I think this world
Is gonna wash up in Hell

La la la la la
La la la la la
La lala la la la la

Then I had another vision
In the crowded grocery store
I saw the Pale Rider on his horse
Decapitating people in the parking lot
And all the shoppers were beasts
What could I do to hide?
Back in this world of humankind
I think we've already lost our minds

But the sun was shining
And everything seems fine
So count me in
I'll see you on the other side

Chemical bomb
Chemical bomb
Eyes melt, skin explodes
Everybody's dead
It won't be long
It won't be long
People gonna run around
Losing their heads
A river of blood
Who's gonna live?
The earth is tired of human kind
And I think this world
Is gonna wash up in Hell

La la la la la
La la la la la
La lala la la la la
maybe... maybe... maybe...

I know just how to whisper,
And I know just how to cry;
I know just where to find the answers;
And I know just how to lie.
I know just how to fake it,
And I know just how to scheme;
I know just when to face the truth,
And then I know just when to dream.
And I know just where to touch you,
And I know just what to prove;
I know when to pull you closer,
And I know when to let you loose.
And I know the night is fading,
And I know that times gonna fly;
And Im never gonna tell you everything
Ive got to tell you,
But I know Ive got to give it a try.
And I know the roads to riches,
And I know the ways to fame;
I know all the rules
And then I know how to break em
And I always know the name of the game.

But I dont know how to leave you,
And Ill never let you fall;
And I dont know how you do it,
Making love out of nothing at all
(making love)
Out of nothing at all,
(making love)
Out of nothing at all,

Just about sums me up completely at the moment.

I did it dad!! I survived everything you told me I would! I survived, I am happy, I am free from the abuse from the pain. I know I have made you proud!

I love you......I miss you!

ON MY FATHERS WINGS

If you were with me now
I'd find myself in you
If you were with me now
Your the only one who knew
All the things we planned to do

I want to live my life
The way you said I would
With courage as my light
Fighting for what's right
Like you made me believe I could

And I will fly on my father's wings
To places I have never been
There is so much I've never seen
And I can feel his heartbeat still
And I will do great things
On my father's wings

This world I'll never see
My dreams that just won't be
This horse's stride
With one days ride
Will have covered more
Distance than me

But I will fly on my father's wings
To places I have never been
There is so much I've never seen
And I can feel his heartbeat still
And I will do great things
On my father's wings

Someday with his spirit to guide me
And his memory beside me
I will be free to

Fly on my father's wings
To places I have never been
There is so much I've never seen
And I can feel his heartbeat still
And I will do great things
On my father's wings
On my father's wings

I did not read all the posts (there are many of them) I wil eventually go thru them.

But to me, it has to be Supertramp Hide in your shell. Beautiful music and lyrics.

Here it is for those who whish to read them:

Hide in your shell cos the world is out to bleed you for a ride
What will you gain making your life a little longer?
Heaven or hell, was the journey cold that gave your eyes of steel?
Shelter behind painting your mind and playing joker

Too frightening to listen to a stranger
Too beautiful to put your pride in danger
Youre waiting for someone to understand you
But youve got demons in your closet
And youre screaming out to stop it
Saying lifes begun to cheat you
Friends are out to beat you
Grab on to what you scramble for

Dont let the tears linger on inside now
Cos its sure time you gained control
If I can help you, if I can help you
If I can help you, just let me know
Well, let me show you the nearest signpost
To get your heartback and on the road
If I can help you, if I can help you
If I can help you, just let me know.

All through the night as you like awake and hold yourself so tight
What do you need, a second-hand-movie-star to tend you?
I as a boy, I believed the saying the cure for pain was love
How would it be if you could see the world through my eyes?

Too frightening- the fires getting colder
Too beautiful- to think youre getting older
Youre looking for someone to give an answer.
But what you see is just an illusion
Youre surrounded by confusion
Saying lifes begun to cheat you
Friends are out to beat you
Grab on to what you can scramble for
Dont let teh tears...
... just let me know
I wanna know...
I wanna know you...
Well let me know you
I wanna feel you
I wanna touch you
Please let me near you
Can you hear what Im saying?
Well Im hoping, Im dreamin, Im prayin
I know what youre thinkin
See what youre seein
Never ever let yourself go

Hold yourself down, hold yourself down
Why dya hold yourself down?
Why dont you listen, you can
Trust me,
Theres a place I know the way to
A place there is need to feel you
Feel that youre alone
Hear me
I know exactly what youre feelin
Cos all your troubles are whithin you
Please begin to see that Im just bleeding to
Love me, love you
Loving is the way to
Help me, help you
- why must we be so cool, oh so cool,?
Oh, were such damn fools...

I love me some Supertramp. I'll be predictable (oh ho!) and say that The Logical Song has always meant a lot to me.

On another note, I found it really funny that when I first posted to this thread, I completely forgot that my username is modified from a song. It's from Pink Floyd's "In the Flesh?": "Tell me, is something eluding you, sunshine?" etc. Floyd's (Roger Waters, especially) lyrics have been my favorite since seventh grade when I "discovered" them (read: was given "Wish You Were Here," still my favorite song, by my oldest brother).

I wrote this myself:

I'm reasonably happy,
I'm not too depressed.
If you had my problems,
There's prob'ly no way
That you'd be able to get dressed
In the morning and face the day.

I'm reasonably happy.
I don't feel repressed.
I take my pills,
And I get my thrills,
But mostly I get
Lots of rest.

At the time, I was sleeping about 16 hours a day. Now, it is more like 5 hours.

I just sent this song to an online friend a few days ago, so she'd understand where I am in my life.

It's by Tracy Chapman.

Done so many things wrong I don’t know if I can do right
Oh i, oh i’ve
Done so many things wrong I don’t know if I can do right

At this point in my life
I’ve done so many things wrong I don’t know if I can do right
If you put your trust in me I hope I won’t let you down
If you give me a chance I’ll try
You see it’s been a hard road the road I’m traveling on
And if I take your hand I might lead you down the path to ruin
I’ve had a hard life I’m just saying it so you’ll understand
That right now, right now, I’m doing the best I can

At this point in my life
At this point in my life
Although I’ve mostly walked in the shadows
I’m still searching for the light
Won’t you put your faith in me
We both know that’s what matters
If you give me a chance I’ll try
You see I’ve been climbing stairs but mostly stumbling down
I’ve been reaching high always losing ground
You see I’ve been reaching high but always losing ground
You see I’ve conquered hills but I still have mountains to climb
And right now right now I’m doing the best I can
At this point in my life

Before we take a step
Before we walk down that path
Before I make any promises
Before you have regrets
Before we talk commitment
Let me tell you of my past
All I’ve seen and all I’ve done
The things I’d like to forget

At this point in my life
At this point in my life
I’d like to live as if only love mattered
As if redemption was in sight
As if the search to live honestly
Is all that anyone needs
No matter if you find it

You see when I’ve touched the sky
The earth’s gravity has pulled me down
But now I’ve reconciled that in this world
Birds and angels get the wings to fly
If you can believe in this heart of mine
If you can give it a try
Then I’ll reach inside and find and give you
All the sweetness that I have
At this point in my life
At this point in my life

My lifes soundtrack is of Pink Floyd. But if i had to pick onesong would be "Comfortly Numb". It's a song that can reach down in me and inspire and depress me soemtimes at the same time. I listen to when I down in the dumps and pick me up with the riffs. It's hard to explain, but it's what move me.

I love Pink Floyd! "Comfortably Numb" is the song I have on my MySpace right now. The song at this moment in time--could change by lunch, lol--is Billy Joel's "And So It Goes"

In every heart there is a room
A sanctuary safe and strong
To heal the wounds from lovers past
Until a new one comes along

I spoke to you in cautious tones
You answered me with no pretense
And still I feel I said too much
My silence is my self defense

And every time I've held a rose
It seems I only felt the thorns
And so it goes, and so it goes
And so will you soon I suppose

But if my silence made you leave
Then that would be my worst mistake
So I will share this room with you
And you can have this heart to break

And this is why my eyes are closed
It's just as well for all I've seen
And so it goes, and so it goes
And you're the only one who knows

So I would choose to be with you
That's if the choice were mine to make
But you can make decisions too
And you can have this heart to break

And so it goes, and so it goes
And you're the only one who knows

There are multitudes that are examples....but this has always been a favorite:

I am the ocean lit by the flame
I am the mountain, peace is my name
I am the river, touched by the wind
I am the story, I never end......

Peace is a word
Of the sea and the wind.
Peace is a bird
who sings as you smile.
Peace is the love
Of a foe as a friend.
Peace is the love
You bring to a child.

Searching for me
You look everywhere,
Except beside you.
Searching for you
You look everywhere,
But not inside you.

Peace is a stream
From the heart of a man;
Peace is a man, whose breadth
Is the dawn.
Peace is a dawn
On a day without end;
Peace is the end, like death
Of the war.

Billy Joel

Friday night I crashed your party
Saturday I said I'm sorry
Sunday came and trashed me out again
I was only having fun
Wasn't hurting anyone
And we all enjoyed the weekend for a change

I've been stranded in the combat zone
I walked through Bedford Stuy alone
Even rode my motorcycle in the rain
And you told me not to drive
But I made it home alive
So you said that only proves that I'm insane

You may be right
I may be crazy
But it just may be a lunatic you're looking for
Turn out the light
Don't try to save me
You may be wrong for all I know
But you may be right

Remember how I found you you there
Alone in your electric chair
I told you dirty jokes until you smiled
You were lonely for a man
I said take me as I am
'Cause you might enjoy some madness for a while

Now think of all the years you tried to
Find someone to satisfy you
I might be as crazy as you say
If I'm crazy then it's true
That it's all because of you
And you wouldn't want me any other way

You may be right
I may be crazy
But it just may be a lunatic you're looking for
It's too late to fight
It's too late to change me
You may be wrong for all I know
But you may be right

You may be right
I may be crazy
But it just may be a lunatic you're looking for
Turn out the light
Don't try to save me
You may be wrong for all I know
But you may be right
You may be wrong but you may be right
You may be wrong but you may be right

Mine changes frequently of course, but the way it's been lately I would go with "Hurt" I prefer the Johnny Cash version. I won't post all the lyrics here, but here's the part that always gets stuck in my head.

what have I become?

everyone I know
goes away in the end
and you could have it all
my empire of dirt

I will let you down
I will make you hurt

A song which still brings a tear to my eye, listened to over and over a few years ago:

If I could Change Your Mind : Alan Parsons Project
(Lead vocal - Lesley Duncan)

I prefer to spend my time in solitary ways
Keeping myself to myself
Can't pretend that it's been easy since you went away
Living with somebody else

If you should change your mind
If you should turn around and look behind
If you could see me the way I used to be
At the risk of bringing back the sorrow and despair
I would do it all again
Holding on to memories and pretending not to care
Knowing that the show was soon to end
If only I could change your mind
If only you would change
If I had the chance I'd do it all again
I would do it all again

I remember windy shores on menancholy days
Drifting along with the tide
And the joy of simple things and ordinary ways
Taking it all in my stride

If you should change your mind
If I could let you see what lies behind
If you could see need me the way it used to be

Even for the moment of the happy times we shared
Living in my dreams since then
At the risk of losing only castles in the air
Come with me and we can try again
Oh, if I could change your mind

Can't pretend it's been lonely since you went away
Oh, if I could change your mind

Damn ...So many great songs listed already. I started playing in bands at about 15 and have spent a lifetime playing anything and everything from Airplane to Zappa....but there is one song that stands out amongst all the rest.... and almost any muscian will probably tell you it's the most painfully requested song you'll here someone shout out for. Usually some guy in the back of the bar, intoxicated beyond the point of no return, holding himself errect with one hand as he lifts his bottomless beermug with the other. A tear in his eye spilling into the drool on his chest... and with his last breath hollers out the song of all songs....The song that speaks to the heart and soul of every red-blooded male...with the deepest appreciation

"Free Bird" by Lynrd Skynyrd

If I leave here tomorrow
Would you still remember me?
For I must be travelling on, now,
There's too many places I haven't seen
And if I stayed here with you, now
Things just wouldn't be the same
Well I'm as free as a bird now,
And a bird you can not change.
And a bird you can not change.
And a bird you can not change.
Lord knows I can't change

Bye, bye, its been a sweet love.
And though this feeling I can't change.
Please don't take it badly,
The Lord knows I'm to blame.
And, if I stayed here with you now
Things just wouldn't be the same.
For I'm as free as a bird now,
And this bird you'll never change.
And the bird you can not change.
And the bird you can not change.
Lord knows, I can't change.
Lord help me, I can't change.

Ambi :)

"Hurt"

I hurt myself today
to see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
the only thing that's real
the needle tears a hole
the old familiar sting
try to kill it all away
but I remember everything
what have I become?
my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
and you could have it all
my empire of dirt

I will let you down
I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of thorns
upon my liar's chair
full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
beneath the stains of time
the feelings disappear
you are someone else
I am still right here

what have I become?
my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
and you could have it all
my empire of dirt

I will let you down
I will make you hurt

if I could start again
a million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

this beloved song just resonated w/ me today...

Like many these days I was born before my parents tied the knot. My dad, a student and lover of the poetry of Robert Burns carried me round the delivery room quoting from the bard his joy at my arrival in the world. He still quotes lines from the same poem today quite frequently in reference to me. I know its never been put to music so its not a song but in verse of any kind these are the lines I feel most describe me. Verse 7. The poem, "Welcome to a Bastart Wean"

Gude grant that thou may inherit
Thy mither's looks an' gracefu' merit
An' thy poor, worthless daddie's spirit
Without the failin's!
'Twill please me mair to see thee heir it
Than stocket mailins

Sadly however I have too many of his failings so its not a perfect description. O well.

I have in fact inherited my mothers looks and colouring, and like mum I love to help people who are in trouble and am a great listener (talker too), something that he is immensely proud of, and also his spirit and determination and sense of injustice. But the thing I am most proud of is that the very last lines of the poem refer to my dad.

I'll never rue my trouble wi' thee
The cost nor shame o' t
But be a loving faither to thee
And brag the name o't!

Its been a close run thing sometimes but rue it he never has, love me he does unfailingly and brag it he does incessantly, if often very critically, even at the worst of times in our relationship.

SOOOO many songs on the album: "Acoustic Soul" (2001) by INDIA.ARIE relate to me and my situation...the one below hits a special coard right now...

"Beautiful"

The time is right
I'm gonna pack my bags
And take that journey down the road
Cause over the mountain I see the bright sun shinning
And I want to live inside the glow
Yeah

I wanna go to place where I am nothing and everything
That exists between here and nowhere
I wanna got to a place time as no consequence oh yeah
The sky opens to my prayers

I wanna go to beautiful, beautiful, beautiful,
I wanna go to beautiful, beautiful, beautiful,
I wanna go to beautiful, beautiful, beautiful,
I wanna go to beautiful, beautiful, beautiful,

Please understand that it not that I don't care
But right know these wall are closing in on me
I love you more than I love life itself

But I need to find a place were I can breathe
I can breathe
I wanna go to place were I can hold the intangible
And let of the pain with all my might

I wanna go to a place where I am suspended in ecstasy
Some where between dark and light
Where wrong becomes right

I wanna go to beautiful, beautiful, beautiful,
I wanna go to beautiful, beautiful, beautiful,
I wanna go to beautiful, beautiful, beautiful,
I wanna go to beautiful, beautiful, beautiful,
