Funny! Reminds me of the old man getting mad at people and calling them daft, or yelling things like, "Get our of it yer daft bugger! What are ye? Some sort of stupid Sassenach? If yer lookin' fer a barney, I'm just the chap ter give it cha, ya daft bastard!"

My old man had a helluva temper on him. His father would go into Gaelic when he got mad. The hair in his ears and nose would rustle when he started yelling at anyone. And NO ONE on the planet could fart as loudly as he could!

Dark, the words are not synonymous but very obviously world's apart. Just a play on what I perceive to be humorous words to get your attention ( which I apparently succeeded in doing in quick fashion). That's fine. Another close female friend refers to me as a goofball. Now THAT word and daft bugger I DO consider to be synonymous.;) Btw, got some catfish in my freezer rite now awaiting my front porch grill; summer ritual; delicious fish. :impleased.

Dark, I thaw mine in milk, which gives it a fresh caught flavor. From there, it goes into a marinade of beer, soy sauce & Cajun spices. Finally, on the grill, I use charcoal laced with mesquite and add hickory wood chips periodically. The result is an intoxicating aroma wafting through the neighborhood. Also, I always choose a day when the wind speed & direction are just right so some of the smoke blows through my open door, into my house. This usually leaves a lingering, earthy, sensual aroma in my home for the following two days. Really adds to the ambiance if I should happen to have a guest for some canoodlin. ;)

.... bet the house doesn't iff as badly as if u had made some Cullen Skink.... smoked haddie soup... tastes deeeeelish but house pongs for days if ur not careful. Pongs horribly. Word 2 the gud.. nev leave the dishes overnight if ya ev make Cullen Skink...

There r quite a few recipes but trust me.. all will leave the house very iffy after... soup is the 1 thing I do better than Kate... click on the link and the recipe is as gud as ne http://www.heraldscotland.com/mobile/food-drink/celebrity-chefs/simply-special-how-to-make-traditional-cullen-skink.2012121981. If it is particularly cold outside I like to throw in a couple of good pinches of flaked red chilli which we dry ourselves from our own chilli plants. Sometimes I use fresh but I dont think in soup it gives quite the kick of dried.. don't ask me why. Never use chilli powder! Tried it? Hated it.. personal choice tho.. as is the amount of chilli chucked in the soup... but if I am honest, I like it without chilli best but it is a soup wich responds well 2 just a lickle red nippie....

Sounds like wonderful what we call " comfort food. " I had the same experience once with some deer meat given to me by a friend during the hunting season. Most people blend it with another meat, often pork, because of its " gamey" flavor. I decided to use straight ( very unintended pun on a bi site ;)) deer meat for a stew in my slo-cooker. During the final hour of cooking, I added a generous amount of portobello mushrooms which have a nice, beefy texture. Turned out to be a perfect blend. During the hours of cooking, my place smelled great. The aftermath was a completely different story. A very, pungent odor lingered, probably much like the "pong" :smilies15 you mentioned.

In the noodling vein, here's this : http://www.wibw.com/home/localnews/headlines/Woman-Reels-In-Massive-Catfish-At-Milford-Lake--202610731.html I used to fish this very nearby lake as a boy & teen. There was sort of a local urban legend about divers from the army's Corps of Engineers having encountered monster catfish as big as a man.

My favorite to fish for was called the channel cat, specifically a "pan-sized channel cat." It was considered a perfect catch because as the phrase implies, it fit one's typical frying just right & offered substantial food for two.
