View Full Version : Bisexual Animals...who knew.

Interesting.
All animals on this planet share a common ancestry. That’s why it’s not a shocker that, like humans, there are some bisexual (and downright horny) animals on Earth.+
1. Bonobos+

http://editorial.pride.com/sites/pride.com/files/bonobo_x600.jpg

These guys are the horndogs (http://knowledgenuts.com/2013/11/12/the-addicted-apes-that-prove-homosexuality-is-natural/) of the animal kingdom. Sleeping with both males and females, Bonobos don’t need an excuse to do get down. Tired? Sex. Stressed? Sex. Angry? Sex. Feeling any anything at all? SEX. Any surprise they’re the closest living relative to humans?+
2. Orcas+

http://editorial.pride.com/sites/pride.com/files/killerwhales_jumpingx600.jpg

Before sexual maturity, many bull orcas fool around with one another and initiate beak-genital orientation (http://www.worldpolicy.newschool.edu/wpi/globalrights/sexorient/marine-gay.html). In a nutshell, one bull swims under another, touching and nuzzling his partner’s genital area with his snout (aka beak). Orcas are all about pleasuring their partners. Most of their same-sex acts are reciprocal—they make sure every 3-foot-long penis (yup) gets undivided attention. +
3. Bottlenose Dolphins+

http://editorial.pride.com/sites/pride.com/files/bottlenose_dolphinsx600.jpg

Glee was onto something when they nicknamed dolphins “gay sharks (http://www.biggerthanbeyonce.com/2010/04/glee-101-dolphins-are-gay-sharks/).” Many bottlenose dolphins (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/29/dolphins-bisexuality-homosexuality-study-_n_1388330.html) are bisexual or gay. Given that they are one of the smartest and most social animals out there, it makes sense.+
4. Humboldt Penguins+

http://editorial.pride.com/sites/pride.com/files/humboldt_pinguinx600.jpg

Penguins are all different. Some are gay and monogamous. Some are bisexual switch partners. Some are on the DL and have a female partner, but also get some from the other males in the crew.+
5. Black Swans+

http://editorial.pride.com/sites/pride.com/files/black_swan_familyx600.jpg

About 25 percent (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexual_behavior_in_animals#cite_note-43) of male black swans pair with other males. They steal nests and have quick threesomes (with a female). After she lays her eggs, they kick her out of the nest and raise the babies without her. Fun fact: When raised by two males, the cygnets (baby swans) have a better chance of surviving than those raised by straight couples. Maybe having two daddies isn’t so bad after all. +
6. Chilean Flamingoes+

http://editorial.pride.com/sites/pride.com/files/chilean_flamingox600.jpg

Flamingoes can have same-sex relationships? Why are we not surprised. Last year in the Edinburgh Zoo, a monogamous same-sex couple adopted a chick after it was rejected by its straight parents (http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2014/10/10/gay-flamingos-adopt-chick-that-was-abandoned-by-its-parents/). +
7. Giraffe+

http://editorial.pride.com/sites/pride.com/files/giraffe_x600.jpg

Practices makes perfect, which is why young giraffes engage in “necking (http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1469-7998.1967.tb02117.x/abstract;jsessionid=11A96BC84E0A797A5F94540DB399D1 F3.f02t04)” (rubbing their necks to display dominance). After a neck battle, some young giraffes will court, caress, mount and bang. +
8. Western Gulls+

http://editorial.pride.com/sites/pride.com/files/gullsx600.jpg

Gulls were actually the first birds seen having same-sex sex. Up to 14 percen (http://articles.latimes.com/1993-06-20/local/me-5238_1_channel-island)t of female Western Gulls are said to be in lesbian relationships. This may be more of a necessity than an attraction less; there's a noticeable shortage (http://www.hawaii.edu/PCSS/biblio/articles/1961to1999/1998-biological-perspective.html) of male gulls. +
9. African Lions+

http://editorial.pride.com/sites/pride.com/files/young_male_lions_africax600.jpg

Lions have one of the strongest sex drives in the animal kindgom. Scientists believe that mounting another male (http://guardianlv.com/2013/08/homosexuality-within-the-wildlife/)reinforces bonds and strengthens relationships between males. +
10. Deep-Sea Squid+

http://editorial.pride.com/sites/pride.com/files/loligo_vulgarisx600.jpg

These creatures, which are rarely seen, are bisexual and DTF (http://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-14986769) for pretty ridiculous reasons. Scientists think that deep-sea squid are firm believers of the hole-is-a-hole approach. Perhaps, finding a suitable mate fathoms below makes it hard to identify gender. They got to get it where they can.

Great post. I am from a rural aria and have had observed young male bulls mounting each other. The more and more i observe and read i have come to the conclusion that Bisexuality is Very natural and probably the norm.

The reason it is not the norm is due to heavy influences from social systems (religion) which use guilt to keep the flock in line.

As far as I know there are no churches in the animal kingdom so they get to experience guilt free living.

Not everyone who was raised in a religion or spirituality feels "guilt" over same and opposite sex/gender attraction.

There are churches and religious and spiritual organizations that are pro-LGBT rights and fully accepting of LBGT people.

The original post about animals being bisexual is old news and not surprising at all, or should not be surprising to anyone who has owned two dogs of the same sex/gender at the same time.

Great thread. I own a small farm in RI, and I often observe "bisexual" behavior among the animals.

I agree.

Good observation, Pole. Now tell me how long these "trendy churches" have been around in comparison to the major religions of the West, the Abrahamic Religions. And which one of the two has, over the course of their evolution, engrained themselves and their mandates concerning sex so deeply into the human psyche that it's psychological impacts still reverberate to this day in how popular culture behaves towards, reacts towards, and places value towards the topic of "sex"?

So by your logic we should all just shut up and assume that whatever we have to say has been heard before by somebody else?

Would make for a "quiet" Internets, no?

Admittedly, my reaction to your post was a downright juvenile guffaw, which I suppose is in keeping with the intended style.

These churches are mainstream Protestant churches in the United States that have been around here since the early or mid 1700s for sure here in the United States; but they've been around in the UK and other countries for a lot longer. The other church has been around here in the United States since the mid 1600s, and none of them have been LOL "Trendy", showy, or over-popular like the Roman Catholic church is; but the Roman Catholic church has always been against LGBT people and still is today.

Meh, it's common knowledge that animals including people can be bisexual. It's nothing new and anyone who has raised livestock, lived on or near a farm, or had two animals as pets of the same sex or gender knows this. There's no real need to make a thread about it, or act surprised about it.

Oh, so you're talking about how Protestant sects of Christianity have opened up in recent years due to social pressure to be more open toward people of various sexual orientations. It's a "trendy" decision to make these days if you want to keep interest in "Church" up with the flock. It wasn't always that way though with the Protestant sects. That's only a recent change generally speaking.

Meh, it's common knowledge

Always appreciate the unbiased opinion.

It's not within recent years and it has nothing to do with being trendy or PC. These Protestant sects were pro-LGBT decades ago when most people and society were not and being something other than heterosexual was recently decriminalised both in the United States and UK.

Right...decades....

And Abrahamic Religion has been around for what now, a couple of millennium or so?

It is interesting as to whether the Orca bumping the other's genitals with its beak is play or sexual behaviour?

Lesbians bump clits at times.
