Bluegrass! My favorite music. My XM is on CH 61 most of the time. If I wasn't half way across the country from you I'd check it out. Good Luck, a most worthwhile cause.

I like Bluegrass too----if we have a true music that comes from the part of the country I live in, it's Bluegrass. I like to go to see bluegrass musicians who come play the area and go to local festivals when I can.

I mostly listen to channel 60 on Sirius/XM which is Outlaw Country---but listen to Bluegrass Junction too. There are some pretty good local stations around that play bluegrass and other forms of Americana music---like WDVX-FM out of the Knoxville/Clinton, TN area which is available online at www.wdvx.com

I was working at a Ford dealership in Louisville, Kentucky, in '63.

Bill Monroe's Ford van blew up, close to our shop, and he traded the broken-down one for a new one. The salesmen had to get one from another dealership across town.

While waiting for the new van to arrive, Monroe's group put on a little show for us. It was great seeing them in person and having our own little private event!

I bought something really cool the other day--I was at a native american flute festival at a place I am volunteering for this summer---a recreation of a village established by a group of native people's some 800 years or so ago by a "long lost people."

They had lots of people there selling flutes and such----but this one guy made and sold some really incredible cigar box guitars----I've tried to learn to play an acoustic six string guitar--but with having a bit of carpal tunnel---it really hurts like hell to play it. The CBG I bought is only a three stringer and the neck is nice and thin--so its so much easier to get my hands up and down the neck and on the frets--I've just been watching some YouTube videos where people do some demonstrations on how to play some blues licks and am actually able to do it--but I do want to try to pick out some tunes---hopefully I can find someone who plays these things who can offer some tips.

Making guitars from what is on hand is actually pretty common--and goes back many years--most of the original blues players learned how to play on such instruments and man---can some people rock them out--check out this one young woman blues player from the Kansas City area--she it smoking hot both in her looks and her playing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ginTpu7u_HU

I surely could never look as hot as Samatha Fish does----but I hope that someday soon--I can lay down some blues riffs half as hot as she can do.

Even though the topic here is about bluegrass music----since so many people are talking about what Milley Cyrus did the other night on the MTV VMA show---I figured I ask everyone what they think about that.

To me--its really no surprise that both she and Lady Gaga had "controversial performances" and you can expect that from this "awards show."

I don't watch that show because with MTV and those awards----in my opinion--the "music" that they honor is not really music at all when you compare it to other forms of real music like classical, jazz, blues, bluegrass, classic rock, traditional country, MoTown/Classic R&B and other forms of music.

The stuff that they "celebrate" by things like MTV---is not about making real, lasting music---its about what is the latest stuff they are playing this second---and then you move on the what comes in the next second---since that seems that is only about how long they intend the "music" they make is designed to last---it's doubtful that anyone will be playing ANY of the music being made today 50 years from now.

Also doubtful that you will have real musical ARTISTS of the future saying they were inspired by the works of Taylor Swift, Jay Z, Kanye West, Lady Gaga or the rest---but bet there will still be those who will say they are following in the footsteps of real greats like Frank Sinatra, Muddy Waters, Bob Dylan, Bill Monroe, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, John Lennon or maybe composers like George Gershwin.

With what Milley Cyrus did do---it was not great music or art, as one public relations interviewed on some cable news show tried to say that it was---but Milley Cyrus sure has a career being a porn star---since what she did was basically a great screentest to play in such films.

Miley is still a kid, and trying to raise her sagging performance ratings. She's just trying to generate some attention for herself by doing something that would cause a big stir. It'll pass..unless she decided to Stay acting like a dumb kid....

No promise, but I'm going to try and be there, Cat. I've been wanting to meet the woman who posts all this wonderful stuff for quite a while, now, and this time I just might make it. If the van is running, and the creek don't rise...etc.
Love, sailor

Awww Cat you're going to hate me for envy when I tell you...
I'll be planning a 3 hour ride, next year, from my house to:
www.bluegrassunderground.com

If it's a wet county, I'll spend the night right there in McMinnville.
If it's a dry county, I'll ride 40 minutes/spend the night in Nashville.

Love and Best Wishes always,
Blue

LORD! I swear I just heard "I WANNA CUM!" all the way from Washington State (2000 miles)! LOL
