sir Ian kellen has joined with the NZ Rainbow Youth ( lgbt youth ) and the WTF NZ campaign, a new LGBT pride event for the youth.... which for the LGBT youth of NZ, is a well needed support boost by way of support, education and social groups lol

the WTF campaign is more than about being proud of your sexuality, its about being proud of who you are as a person, and tho, like most LGBT groups its auckland based ( the rest of the country doesn't exist as usual ) http://wtfnz.org/

I am posting it here as part of their site reads..... And for all you gay, lesbian, takatapui, bisexual and transgender folks—we need and want your voice too! Because this campaign is for you. Not only can you help us to stand up and make a change to inequality in New Zealand, but you can help get the straight people in your life to stand up and say ‘What the fuck?!’, to discrimination.....

to my LGBT friends in NZ that read this site as guests, add your support to the WTF campaign please.... and to the rest of the world, lets all say WTF to discrimination, not just for ourselves but the youth that are going to cement our place in society as out, proud and here to stay.....

What is this word "takatapui"? Hope that site helps the NZ youth.

It is a Maori term for intimate same sex partner, doesn't differentiate as to whether they are gay, lesbian, trans.. just a lovely term for a loved one.

Nice. It's nice to learn new terms from other languages.

takatapui is a very loose term that covers a partner of the same sex and can cover transgender /sexual, gay, lesbian, bisexual and often is used without assigning gender roles.....

I am *borrowing this from wikipedia cos its easier than writting it...... Derivatives of takatāpui include takatāpui kaharua for bisexual (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bisexuality), takatāpui wahine for lesbian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lesbian) and takatāpui wahine ki tāne or takatāpui tāne ki wahine for transmen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transman) or transwomen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transwoman). Takatāpui serves as an umbrella term for all these identities.
part of the reason why I perfer the maori / pacific island way of labelling, is that each person is not singled out according to their sexuality and gender but generally embraced as part of the community... and sexually its not broken down into gay / lesbian / hetero / trans sex, but simply sex and so we would be seen as a takatapui community.....
