Hello,
TO anyone in the Philadelphia, PA area, I highly reccomend the Bi-unity meetings. I went to my first one 2 weeks ago, ad enjoyed it emensely. The people there are wonderful, and inviting. They are also very intellegent, and acceppting. I had wonderful conversations and met some very, very cool folks.
I can't express enough how important these kind of groups are to folks!
The next meeting is this tuesday, June 21st at 7PM.
I hope to see more locals there :)

As someone who runs a similar group on t'other side of the Atlantic, I'm delighted to hear it's proving so good for you (o:~

And as someone who goes along to Softfruits 'Biphoria' group I too am filled with nothing but praise for a space which offers people a safe environment both to socialise with like minded people and to explore our bisexuality.

I know many people are cautious about going along to such groups, for whatever reason. I was so shy and felt very inadequate at first, but now, after a couple of meetings, I feel much more grounded in my bisexuality and really value a whole evening a month with other bisexuals. Yay

I love this thread. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed Bi-Unity so much Ratchick. For those of you looking for lists of such groups and where/when they meet, check out the Local Events Listings (http://main.bisexual.com/index.php?do=events&). There are groups that meet in Philadelphia, Washington DC, San Francisco, Seattle, Toronto, London, Manchester and elsewhere. I try to keep the listings as up-to-date as possible, and I link to the group's website so you can confirm date/time/place and other details in case they have changed.

What Drew said!

But also, even if there isn't a group listed near enough for it to be worth going along, there are often one-off events (like BiCon or BiFest here in the UK) which attract people from much further afield, where you may find other people from nearer to where you live. Starting a local bi social-support group isn't rocket science - and there are lots of us running groups willing to lend help and advice on getting things up and running.

I wish that we had something like that here in Michigan. There used to be active bi groups, but they died out from lack of participation. So, I am planning on making my move from Michigan to the MD, VA, DC area in about a year. I hope to find a group there. If not, I'll travel to NYC.

Why not try and kick something back into life where you are? All bi groups go through strong and weak phases -- if there was demand for a group three or four years ago, there will be now.

Plus the 'net has made it a lot easier to promote a bi group -- you can do some of the marketing from home, rather than always having to trudge round with flyers and posters in the rain!
